This is fascinating. Worryingly seems that research and appropriate treatment options may still not be readily available and these conditions (which are no doubt quite common amongst dancers) are perhaps not being easily identified and may take time to establish the correlation between hyper mobility and anxiety. This was first brought to my attention many years ago at a talk by the author Lena Dunham who suffers with these hyper mobility disorders and has tried to raise awareness of the anxiety link alongside physical symptoms. https://graziadaily.co.uk/amp/celebrity/news/ehlers-danlos-syndrome/ Links at the bottom of the article to support groups (no idea if these may be out of date?)

I must confess I have never come across a school like you mention on Instagram. Now curious! Is it U.K. based?

Natural hyper mobility of some limbs is definitely a desirable asset for classical ballet and helps to achieve a lovely line. You’re right though it takes special training to control it and takes a little extra time. I think the issue regarding instagram is when children are forced into unnatural positions for their physique and promoting over stretching limbs which is unsafe and not necessary for ballet training.

I agree that some content on Instagram showing young dancers in extreme/forced positions is concerning. Particularly when some posts encourage children to try very dangerous exercises which will only result in injury. These would not be recommended by any qualified reputable teacher. It’s important that children are aware that extreme hyper mobility is extremely rare and they should always work safely within their own physical limits with advice on safe stretching from their teachers. Ballet is an art form and I personally would value artistry and dynamic performance above hyper mobility! Whilst there are also plenty of great safe stretching tips on Instagram you are right to be aware of the pitfalls, especially with young children who can be easily influenced.

I’m really enjoying the format this year. It’s fascinating to see how varied the training styles and technique are from different countries. Much easier to see this from individual videos. It is a shame they miss out on the coaching and group class sections but impressive they have managed to host the event so smoothly under the circumstances. Look forward to seeing them all in their solos.

Hi TBG I would say absolutely! It’s a classic camisole, flattering, elegant cut. I think most important that they wear a leotard that they feel very comfortable and confident in!

I can highly recommend this course! DD did the summer one. Brilliant faculty and great personal corrections for all the dancers.

Hi everyone, apologies if this thread already exists. Thought it would be helpful if people with children auditioning to start upper schools in Sept 2021 wanted to post information on Audition dates and details for various schools. I know that auditions are delayed in the UK due to Covid but So far I only know that ENB prelim audition is set for January 9th. Anyone who knows more dates please can you add? Thank you!

Yes you just go to the Instagram page and they announce what time they will be live and if you click on their icon you can just join and watch and some are also available after the session is over if in a different time zone. Love our Young dancers are able to be taught and inspired by some of their biggest heroes. Of course also amazing for adult dancers to learn new things.

Tiler Peck has live streamed class for the last 2 days Via Instagram . My daughter really enjoyed following along from the kitchen! Think she will be back tomorrow. She even adapts the exercises for beginners to advanced.
