Hello, A newbie’s question so probably was discussed before but I’m just wondering if anyone could recommend a good studio for contemporary or jazz for younger children? Most schools I’ve googled offer contemporary classes starting from 11yo, my daughter has just turned 9. She’s been doing only classical ballet and rhythmic gymnastics and occasionally street dance with Pineapple, but is now really interested in contemporary and jazz. I know Sylvia Young for jazz but maybe some other studios offer a good rigorous training? Ideally central to north London but would go further for a good one. Thanks! -
For IDTA jazz, are the ages guidelines or a requirement that they’re at least that age? Also does anyone know the minimum ages for Intermediate, Advanced 1 and advanced 2 please?

So I’m 18 and for jazz, contemporary etc (basically all dance styles apart from ballet) I have always worn a leotard with my black footless tights over it. On my vocational course my uniform for these lessons has the tights on the top, so I’m convinced I’m right. My 12 sister, (and also my mum, and rest of the family) insist that all tights should be worn underneath leotards. I dont know, if it’s just the age difference or what, but I would interested to know everyone’s opinions on this to settle the debate of me vs the rest of my family thanks

Brand new Bloch black leather split sole jazz shoes. Bought for my DD to grow into but she never did! Style is very good fit on slim feet Size is indicated 4.5 and I think this is USA sizing. My DD is UK 2.5 and they're a bit big so around UK 3. I think they are style S0461L £10 plus postage at cost

Hi guys, Hope this is ok to start but I could do with a boys thread to refer to. DS is 11, and has been dancing for nearly two years, his fave is ballet but also does tap and jazz. I’m getting a bit cheesed off at not being able to find anything for him. Bought new tap shoes today and ended up in ladies yet again!! (He’s a 4). I try to get things made when I can find and afford them. His ballet bag came from the USA and I’m so tired of googling “freed Aaron” like it’s the only leotard he’ll ever find. Can anyone point us in a direction of nice boys stuff? Good workshops, associate schemes?? He is in a nice school but still the only boy in his class and wonder if he’s missing out. We live in the NW of the UK, but will travel for the right opportunities. Thank youuuuuu! xx

Hello, My dance teacher has given me have a new jazz solo and has let me choose the song. I have spent lots of time on Spotify looking at jazz solo songs, but still uncertain on what song to choose. I am 15 years old so I want a ‘mature’ song but I’m open to suggestions. Im wondering what make a song good to dance to? I personally think having highs and low parts in the music is important, but anything else? If you could give song suggestions that would be greatly appreciated:) Thankyou xx

Myself and a colleague are running 3 days of 'back to school' dance training in CENTRAL Birmingham at a bargain price of £100 for 3 days! We've had a lot of interest in our Summer School this year, but many people are not available on the dates that we intend to run it. It seems there's a demand for something later in the holidays, so we're considering moving it to either the week of 15th August or the 22nd August. Aimed at dancers aged 9 and over, our Summer Session at Broomwood School, SW12, includes classes and workshops in classical ballet, contemporary and jazz dance. Working with our experienced faculty, students will gain a greater insight into these dance forms, including a taste of what to expect when auditioning and performing professionally. Whilst being extremely hard work, and sometimes challenging, our workshops have a friendly and supportive atmosphere. We have over 20 years' experience of training young dancers at both a pre-vocational and vocational level, and understand that an all round approach to a dance student's well being is essential. Steph Elstob (Ballet). Steph trained at Central School of Ballet and has appeared with Matthew Bourne's New Adventures, Michael Clark Company and has performed at Buckingham Palace with ROH. Nicky Griffiths (Jazz Dance). Nicky trained at Bird College and is currently playing the role of Lorraine in Jersey Boys at the Piccadilly Theatre. -

Hi there I'm 18 yrs old and currently training to become a dance teacher with the IDTA. I'm currently learning IDTA intermediate ballet and once I've done my exam will be doing the pre-associate and associate for it. I've heard you can become an RAD teacher once I'm IDTA qualified, I don't know if this is true? I hope so! Anyway I just have a few questions to see what people think - I've done RAD ballet my whole life ever since I was 5, but I've never done tap and modern exams I've done performances in tap, modern, street etc but not exams. I know its a silly question but one day I'm going to have to make the decision, what sounds better: An RAD dance school with just ballet exams and tap and modern non-syllabus OR shall I do all the IDTA theatre associates so theres exams in IDTA ballet, tap and modern? I don't feel very confident teaching tap and modern syllabus work because I've obviously never done the exams. Which one would you rather take your child to or sounds better? Thank you

Dear parents/guardians of young dancers, It may be of interest that - from October 2014 - Spirit Young Performers Company will be launching an Elite Dance Troupe. The performers selected for this troupe will perform in professionally filmed showcases and represent us at prestigious live events. We're looking for skilled dancers aged 10-17 who are dynamic and compelling performers. These dancers will train and rehearse with us every Sunday in Central London from 4pm - 6pm, working on jazz, contemporary, lyrical and modern routines. Performances will be professionally filmed every term and released to thousands of viewers and subscribers on our online channel.
