Leanne Benjamin appointed Artistic Director of Queensland Ballet

Recommended Posts

Fabulous news!  A move back home after so many years.  Wow!  Many congratulations to Leanne, but she will be sorely missed at the RB.  I have heard nothing but praise for her coaching in the MacMillan rep in particular.  Maybe she will come back as a guest coach from time to time.  I wish her happiness and success in her new role.

Congratulations Leanne Benjamin! I did wonder if she would apply since she has extensive experience dancing with different companies and there is a personal connection-she is a Queensland native (although her husband - son of Georgina Parkinson and Roy Round - is British and his theatre work is based here, and their son has grown up in England). It will be interesting to see where she takes the company (artistically as well as geographically).

Just in case, here is the official announcement from Queensland Ballet.

Such wonderful news!

https://www.queenslandballet.com.au/news/queensland-ballet-announces-new-artistic-director

Queensland Ballet has announced Leanne Benjamin AM OBE as its new Artistic Director.

Named Australian of the Year in the UK 2023, this is a homecoming for Ms Benjamin, a Queenslander who has been a vibrant voice in ballet, vocational development, advocacy, and governance on the world stage for many years.

Ms Benjamin will be the sixth Artistic Director to take the helm at Queensland Ballet and the first female to assume the role. In a natural balance to her international accomplishments, she started life in Rockhampton, so Queensland runs through her, strong and vibrant.

it says that Kevin O'Hare was on the selection committee.

So pleased to hear this news. No surprises that her career has progressed in this direction. She has so many qualities that suggest sh will make an excellent director of a company. If you read the full announcement, Kevin O’Hare is singled out by being quoted at length in his assessment of the qualities and experience she will bring to the role.
