  1. Although not dance as such, the rhythmic movement over the drums is almost dance like. Foteini Christofilopoulou was at the rehearsal at the Peacock Theatre, so here are some photos: Yamato Drummers © Foteini Christofilopoulou. 2. Ahead of the official opening night on the 21st March, we had a photo call at the Dominion Theatre, featuring a few of the scenes from the show, and the lovely finale pdd with Leanne Cope and Robert Fairchild. Here are a few photos: I'll Build a Stairway to Paradise - Swing cast, led by Haydn Oakley © Dave Morgan. 3. I was at the tech rehearsal in the afternoon before the performance - so here are some photos. Please be aware that the dancers were only in semi-costume at best, with no hair/makeup done, and plenty of leg warmers/trakkie pants in evidence! Despite that, class will out, and all that... 4. If Ms Naghdi is promoted (pretty please!!), lets hope she gets to dance in front of the critics more often as a result and so gets noticed by more than us regulars at ROH :-)
  5. Foteini Christofilopoulou was at the rehearsal for 'Echoes' (by Aditi Mangaldas), danced by Aakash Odedra at the Lilian Baylis studio theatre at Sadlers Wells, March 2017. 6. Yes, mine was £19, and I got what I paid for really, so not complaining. Hope you enjoyed the show as much as I did!
  7. thanks everyone for correcting my misnaming of the step - I didn't know how to describe it, and I vaguely remember someone calling it that (or likening to it maybe). Whatever is called, it still looks 'wrong' to my eyes and is one of the low-lights of the ballet for me.
  8. yes, had no trouble with faces down there (when pointing my way) which was great. Had I been 4-6 rows back, with the rake, it would probably have been near perfect! Whatever, its a really enjoyable show, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend seeing it
  9. being in the front, missed a lot below the knee; and right on the side, had lots of backs of heads - but despite all that, really enjoyed it! Leanne Cope was S'wonderful (sorry, couldn't resist), the ensemble big musical numbers were danced and sang with gusto (so many ex-ballet dancers singing - marvelous!), the jokes were good and well delivered, and nicely acted all round. A top night's entertainment - the highlight for me being the 'American in Paris' ballet which was cleverly done, and the romantic pdd in the finale
  10. Foteini Christofilopoulou was at the rehearsal for the double bill (Returning and To Be Me) from the Julie Cunningham Company, at the Barbican Pit, March 2017. 11. as long as they put it with Pierre Luniere and something like Wedding Bouquet, I'd be happy (could miss all 3 in one hit then). As you might gather - not one of my favourites!! :-)
  12. The Watson/Osipova ones have sold out (just about), the others selling reasonably I think, with still plenty of time to go, still performing SB, and 2 other bills first. Though agree a second run in quick succession may struggle - as did Fille last time out for the same reason of saturation.
  13. maybe time to go back to casting a Principal. Most seem fine for the first part of the solo, but when they go to those ugly, ugly 'Italian fouettes' (I think that's what the step is) many have fallen to pieces as if they can no longer find their centre of balance. It ends up making an ugly step into a disastrous one.
  14. I'm sad I had to miss the act 2/act 3 section because of a thumping headache last night - I had enjoyed the beauty of Ms Salenko's dancing in Act 1, and had been looking forward to the 'vision' scene and the gpdd. Oh well, better luck next time. Like Sim, I have enjoyed this run of Beauties as it did indeed seem energised by much of the new casting (and even the more 'usual' casting seened to have fresh impetus). My own favorites have been Yasmine Naghdi, Sarah Lamb and Akane Takada as Aurora (sad I missed Francesca Hayward and Lauren Cuthbertson), James Hay and Vadim Muntagirov as the Prince, Claire Calvert as Lilac, Ms Hayward as Florine, and Marcellino Sambe as the Bluebird. And I still love the dances of Aurora's Friends and Lilac assistants! :-)
  15. I thought opening (press) night was the 21st march now, not April. No response from their press as to a photo call as yet, so not optimistic
  16. is the freezer full yet? They do say they work better when fuller. This problem may disappear if there isn't as much fresh air in there - when you open it, warm air gets in, which then contracts when the freezer acts on it, causing a partial vacuum Well, that's my guess anyway
  17. well worth catching on YouTube - though I don't think we in the audience enjoyed anywhere near as much as Marianela did!! :-) Bless 'er!
  18. if that's true, I'll miss the 'Stars', Cinders walk down the stairs en pointe after leaving her carriage, the glorious pdd - but I won't miss the gallumping sisters...
  19. they rest it roughly every 5-6 years for a season, if memory serves. I love it anyway, so happy to hear it, and was pretty sure it would be back anyway
  20. Foteini Christofilopoulou was at the Sadlers Wells rehearsal - here are some photos: Company Wayne McGregor / Paris Opera Ballet: Tree of Codes © Foteini Christofilopoulou. 21. signage scattered around the front of house (Floral Hall, Amphi bar, near the entrance doors etc), or even projected onto the front curtain - should read: "music on, mouth off" Perhaps the gobby-mob might get the message....(he says, somewhat optimistcally)
  22. Foteini Christofilopoulou was at the rehearsal at the Barbican for the latest triple bill from Ballet Black. Featuring works from choreographers Annabelle Lopez Ochoa (Red Riding Hood), Martin Lawrence (Captured) and Michael Corder (House of Dreams).
