  1. Janet that takes me back to when a training ship was in Dartmouth. I went to use the shower facilities at the Royal Yacht Club. I was scruffy and grubby from my week of learning how to sail a yacht and the ratings from the training ship had to salute me when I entered the Club.
  2. Oh Lisa so sorry to hear this. Hugs to you
  3. Hurrah so pleased you're keeping the black kitten Our Poppy used to turn brown in the summer, just like a cuddly bear cub - and then back to black in the winter. Still miss her
  4. I have been really impressed with the comradeship and sportsmanship of the contenders, encouraging each other, congrtulaions etc. Not so the crowd in the Womens hockey finals. Boos during taking penalty shoots was a bit off i thought
  5. Ashton Eaton came 4th in the pole vault but won the Decathlon overall
  6. Thoroughly enjoyed the pole vault last night for the men's Decathlon. Couldn't make up my mind who I wanted to win between Kevin Meyer and Thomas Van Der Plaetsen. .
  7. I remember the Art Gallery salmon sandwiches very well. As a young teenager I sometimes went in to Birmingham early with my dad when he went to work or caught a later train. I always went to the Art Gallery for my lunch and then went back and shopped some more until my dad finished work and I came home with him.
  8. Congrats to your daughter meadowblythe, Not much of a filmgoer but could you blow a kiss at the Art Museum and the Town Hall for me? Not been there in oh so long but lots of happy memories!
  9. Just thought I should clarify that at Bede's Senior School the pupils start in Year 9 not Year 7. And yes there have been a few principals, believe me we know because we lived through the leaving of Mary Goodhew and the start of Miss Holland with all the disruption and uncertainty that went in between. But if my memory serves me well Miss Holland started September 2011 and has only just left. Edited for type's
  10. Brighton Ballet School has a Summer Intensive Course in Ballet For ages 10 to adults Lower Grades (1 - 3) 9th - 13th August Higher Grades (4 - advanced) 2nd - 6th August - brightonballetschool@mac.com DD recommends Judy Breen in Patcham http://www.hamptonballetacademy.com/) for September prefers her slightly more than Brighton Ballet School but she has been to both and both are very good
  11. I have the problem with people not being able to drive round tight bends every morning on my way to work. Don't live up a mountain just really bad aggressive entitled drivers.
  12. Non-dd finally passed her driving test last week. I'm now getting greyer by the minute worrying about her driving on her own, although she does still want either DH or myself to accompany her to work in the rush hour and then driver her car back and then the reverse in the evening. I'm also not a fan of her car but I suppose it will mean a decrease in the mileage on mine!
  13. Nieces Wedding. Mad dash up the motorway and then stay overnight. Just so tired of M23 M25, M40 - have to go back in 4 weeks for her sister's 30th birthday!
  14. LinMM have you actually put in an objection - I would if you haven't as you may got them to alter some of the proposals and it may not encroach upon you quite so much. If it does go through make sure the builders keep to the plans, height etc. Our neighbours opposite us in our old house objected to our proposed extension when in fact they lived too far away but our extension was cancelled. We appealed and a representative for the Secretary of State came out and viewed it all, the neighbours had their say (they were actually more aggrieved by the extension to the house next door to them and kept going on about that) and our extension was approved. It's what we pay these people for and perhaps if it unfortunately does go through you will feel you did everything you could. We weren't that friendly with the people before all this but we didn't stop speaking to them - just carried on as before. Good luck
  15. That's okay Lemongirl, I hadn't thought about it but will preserve dd's anonomity
  16. We would be unable to afford it now, it's gone up since DD was there and also she was a day pupil so the fees were less. Just checked out Stowe School as I used to live near there and the fees are comparable and I've just checked out Tring Park for 6th form and their fees are £11,180.00 per term/boarding. Haven't seen the new facilities at Tring but the facilities at Bedes are amazing - I can't remember how many loose boxes they have but they used to have 30 mini buses to transport the students in. there is as full golf course - I don't remember the facilities at Stowe being so good
  17. DD attended 2010-2012 and since then the format has changed. Previously they had to take A level dance along with 2 other A levels but I believe there is now a Btech in replace of the dance A level. I'm not sure who is Head of Dance now, Miss Holland was there at the end of DD's time and she is amazing. Entry is by audition for the Legat part of it. I'm not really in touch now just drive past on my way to work every day but it was wonderful when DD was there.
  18. Adding on to this but not in London had tea and cakes at the Fourteas in Stratford upon Avon yesterday - my nieces Hen Party. Bit of a play on words as it's all decorated out in Forties/blitz style. I'm new to the tea and cake game but it was £14.00/head for tea, sandwiches and a selection of cakes.. Stratford was absolutely heaving and the tea room was very busy but i thoroughly enjoyed the experience. in Sheep Street and spitting distance of the Theatre.
  19. A well earned Congratulations to your DC
  20. I'd be interested as well please - only just found thread

  23. Echo what you say Jane, particularly when you're trying to pay at the till in a supermarket.. I've had to ask, particularly children, to give me space. They were almost watching over my shoulder!
  24. If you're planning ahead are a cat lover there is Lady Dinah's Cat Emporium - London's first cat café - believe there is a long waiting list. I've not been but non-dd wanted to go which is how I've heard about it. - Whilst googling I noticed other Cat Cafe's in other cities.
