  1. Ooh a place for my dd, I need to get on with applying for the other summer school she want to go to now. Why do I always do everything last minute!
  2. Hello all, mae989 looks like my dd will be joining yours in September! Very exciting. Would be pleased to receive any advice or information. My dd also very classical not mt at all!
  3. My friend has this problem our dd 's have ja's on Friday's .She had same thing attendance low on report. She asked for a copy of her attendance record and they had been using the wrong code. Making her appear absent on ja days instead of gifted and talented or educated off site. School had obviously agreed to ja absences. They changed her code and sorted it all out. She also rang Cumbria county council to double check what code it should have been. They said it should not count as absence and should be educated off site or g&t. Maybe have a word with your school to see if they are using correct code.
  4. Sorry tatie lashes it is 11 per year. It depends on your local school holidays how many you would miss. Quite a few are on last day of term as well when a school could be winding down. It is a commitment though. My dd has to catch up with work missed etc stay late after school. It is also work for her academic teaches preparing it all, but it has definatley been worth it!
  5. Hi manchester younger ones are in the afternoon, so if you live nearish you can go to school in the morning. Year 6 is in the morning 9:45. It worked out at 11 days or mornings off school for the last two years. They try to put the Fridays in the holidays. Days off school are classed as gifted and talented or educated off site, not a day off!
  6. It looks like they have added a picture for ja applications. A front facing one. I would just email them to check.
  7. In the lower Grades, some time ago my DD used to be able to do them a year early as she has a late birthday and the rule used to be you had to meet the required age in that year if you were 6/7/8 or whatever that year it was fine. So I think she did a couple of exams in Jan/Feb. but didn't meet the minimum age until nearly Christmas. I am sure I read on the RAD website it has changed now and you have to be that age in that half of the year. Any way if you did an exam a year ( which a lot of school don't) you would reach the minimum age for grade 6/ inter found. I am not sure you would want to do it any faster than that. I am sure you will find the information in the exam section of the RAD website. Here it is: " To ensure safe dance practice, candidates must have reached the following minimum age by: 1 January (for exam sessions taking place between January and August); or 1 September (for exam sessions taking place between September and December), in the year the exam takes place:
  8. Hello Can anyone help? We are going to this workshop for two days. We are coming from the North. I have found two cheapish hotels: Novotel right in the centre and Premier inn on Hagley road. The thing is in Edgbaston. Which would be better? They work out about the same price. Was worried about the tunnel closures getting in and out. Any ideas anyone? Thanks :-)

Hi kat09 will the link be off the main website? thanks :-)
  11. Hi, They usually get to watch a pre general rehearsal (fab), once a year at the Royal Opera House and they get to do a workshop at Covent Garden, once a year. One day for year 4's, a one day for year 5's and two days for year 6 children. Most of the performance opportunities are for London JA's from what I can gather, it is probably easier as they will be nearer etc. But you get to watch a class twice a year and usually you can watch the end of the workshop days in London, which is lovely! So save your money up for train tickets!
  12. I wouldn't worry about others at JA's being more experienced, It is all very simple and slow but done properly. In fact it might be better if they have done a bit less, as they want them to do it "their way" and they will have been picked for their potential. At my DD's JA's 50% are boys, I don't think Leeds has as many? But what I can say is watching at Christmas and then again at the end of the year, the children who were a bit behind at Christmas had all caught up by the end of the year and you would not have been able to tell which were which. Hope he has a fab time and enjoys the classes and jaunts to London!

well my little dd loved it! The demonstration was lovely. Even though my child is a girl, I do have a soft spot for the boys! some of them were so far off the floor they were flying! and in that heat. Love the swan girl too, such beautiful expression. Roll on next year. Ps dd exhausted !
  14. Hello drdance, Are there any places for both days left? Thanks.
  15. Have you tried Dancinginthestreet.com ? My DD has ballet feet ( slim high arch and all that) nightmare to fit and we found the studio starlight, full and split sole in white good £10.95. They will post next day. DD is usually Bloch width B and Capizio narrow. Someone recommended them, I was a bit dubious as I remember buying the cheap version of these for DD when she was about 3, but I was surprised, they are much better, made in England an a different last apparently. Don't know if anyone in London stocks them though?

Hello, DD going for first time this year. Can anyone tell me how much pointe work ( if any ) the younger groups do? 11 year olds. Not sure how the groups work as we have no experience of this, does anyone know? Thanks
  18. hi if she is in year 6 i would try not to miss to many. If she is a bit younger it might not be too bad.
  19. Hello Balletnewbie, If your school is lucky enough to be able to offer stretching for the younger ones ( or older ones) I would take it. You really need to start stretching before the age of 7, it is sooo much harder to acquire after that age. Not impossible though, just much harder work! They need to keep up the stretching as well, it is no use doing it every now and then, needs to be consistently and frequently. That said it does depend on the quality of the class, you need to be stretching the correct area's, in the correct way ( if it is for ballet) Gymnastics and ballet share some things, but there are things that need stretching differently as well, so a ballet specific stretching class is good. What is pbt? Most dance schools offer a discount or free classes after you have paid for so many. How old/grade is your child?
  20. my dd friend just got a yes year6 Manchester!
  21. Well done son of Squeaky!! exciting!, maybe Manchester results tomorrow? Got my fingers crossed for a few little ones.
  22. I can spot my child a mile off, even at the back of the stage, she dances differently to the others. I know what people mean by they look the same, because if you compare them with "normal children" they do look different but when you look at them closely together they are all different.
  23. In dd's JA's they are all quite different, some very tall, some very small, some muscular, some bird like, some have a stronger build, but they all move beautifully, all have good turn out and they all like to work hard. The year above look more similar. Who knows what they are looking for, I still don't know, it's probably best that way!
