Well done everyone, hang on in there! They might tell you what number you are on the list? That may give you a better idea, as I bet the first few on the list get in eventually. Places come up for all sorts of reasons. It is a big step moving away from home at such a young age. I think you have to be very sure and quite brave, so no wonder a few are eventually handed back and a bit of shuffling occurs.

    Hammond final

Well done mumof6's DD quite a few people got in off the wait list last year. Fingers crossed for you.
  6. It seems it is mainly ballet, I only know about year 7. They have 3-4 hours a day of ballet, plus an hour of either modern, tap, or Pilates. Wednesday they do a bit less and they dance Saturday 9-12. Also do some early mornings if exams are coming up. I think all the schools have similar dance hours.

That really is loads! There's only a handful in the current year 7.

I would say just the ballet, as the mds is awarded for talent and potential in classical ballet. If it helps my DD has an mds at the Hammond and is definitely classical, not very good at musical theatre etc good at tap though and looks like a ballet dancer when doing modern. I think the school also has their own awards they can give for whatever they like. So more of them might go to all-rounders. There are some really good dancers with the school scholarship in my DDs year, some classical some more all rounders.
  9. Last year we just dropped them at the front door and picked them up later. Best way probably, most of the parents tend to more be more nervous than the children, I am sure it rubs off on them. Bet they have had a fab time when you pick them up! Good luck guys!

Wow 14, there's not that many in my DDs year, I think half that.

    Hammond final

Last year there was a list it said something like.... Normal ballet stuff, jazz pants or tights for the creative ( though I think it really doesn't matter, DD said people had all sorts, I think she didn't even change) I think it was bare feet or jazz shoes, if you have them. I sent her with everything in her bag, just in case. Wear whatever he wore for the fist audition I would say.
  12. If you are in the north. Everything dance in Doncaster.
  13. DD said last year it was "a bit like jazz/modern" and she thinks they did a dance in it. She enjoyed it and she is very much a ballet girl. So it can't have been too scary! Although it could be something different this year.
  14. They do all the solos and singing(if they want) in the first audition. The final last year was a ballet class, followed by a creative movement class then a musical theatre class I think. My child had never done any musical theatre before but she enjoyed it. I don't think she will have been very good at that part but she did get an mds, so I would guess the mds will be based on the ballet class but I think they also have some scholarships which the school fund so I suppose they can award them on whatever they like.
  15. Ballet4boys. The final last year was mixed sex years 7&8 . I think all the year 7&8s that are offered a place get a shot at the funding audition. This year 7 has about 6 boys my DD says. She also said the final was a really nice day.
  16. Last year the Hammond final was much earlier. We had the results before Easter. It is so late this year. Maybe they have done it a bit later on purpose. So people who really want Hammond audition there and it saves a bit of the wait list pain? Who knows.
  17. DD says yes 22 in year including music and drama. 17 dancers, 5 boys, 12 girls.
  18. Boogaloo, they do have MDS awards, as my child has one, which are based on parent income, so up to 100% they do also offer some 50% awards given by the school, nothing to do with MDS. I could get the dance hours for year 7 at some point if that is helpful? as I did a spreadsheet. I think the hours increase as they get older?
  19. Everything Dance in Doncaster. We travel 3 hours to go there. Only a small shop but two really good fitters. Will not sell you any, unless they find you the perfect pair. They had to order some for my DD so they were absolutely perfect, took a few weeks but worth the wait for the health of her feet! You would need an appointment.
  20. Like Happymums DD my DD cant wait to start in September. I think I am more worried than her. The Instragramme thing is a double edged sword but it is a useful thing for these young ones. Ballet is a small world and all their paths will probably cross several times. I think I worry about flexibility/talent or lack of, much more than my child. I think she is far too laid back sometimes. I have to admit to saying wow look at her/him and worrying that she isn't as flexible or whatever and the dd just says, " ah that's not ballet mum" or "well I can do this/that really well. Stop worrying mum." wish I could! My child is obviously far more sensible and mature than I am.
  21. No but you can buy breakfast on the day usually cheaper, it is nice hotel and with two king beds in each room. We are sharing with another mum and daughter so even cheaper!!! Free parking on street after a certain time. Really nice place with restaurants across the street overlooking canal
  22. Hi all, Anyone who needs accomodation for 25th 26th and/or 27th in Birmingham, the jury's inn have a one day sale (today) family rooms with two king beds in, are £49 per night. Cheaper than the budget alternative!!
  23. Thought it was the deposit due by 1may, that's what my email says then it says "further information including outstanding balance will be forwarded in due course" Hope that's right, I have only paid the deposit.
  24. Two ballerinas my dd will be doing week 2. She is 11 and was there last year also! We received email in early hours, I still know lots of people have not heard yet. I would guess they are ploughing through them in the order of receipt as we sent ours quite late, April and have just heard, people who were more organised have had their reply and people who were later than me, still have not heard. Just a guess but I think they maybe have had a lot of applications this year.
  25. Well done dancing pickles we will see you there!
