  1. Well done balletdream & balletdreams daughter, she will be in the same year as my DD! Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. See you in September. Happy labeling!!
  2. Main cast place for my DD, really pleased for her! Now to figure out how to pay for it!
  3. Well done wigglybunnys ds!!! How exciting!!
  4. Well my dd said she was called mrs Dickinson or Dixon. When she finally rang me tonight. Not that I haven't been waiting ALL day for news of how it went, a text would have been nice! Anyway is there more than one examiner? If not my dd may have it wrong as she said it was something like.... she did say she seemed very nice and had grey hair? That's all the information I managed to extract from her. Oh and she lost one of her ouch pouches so had to dance with only one, hope her shoes fitted ok without it.
  5. My DD is doing hers now! ekk. Dd had no idea who examiner was!
  6. Congratulations tattielashes and commiserations Mrs moo2, they might just not have many/any places available for your little ones age. Try again next year he is only 9. Are you allowed to ring for feedback? Have you applied for any other schemes? There is still Royal, Elmhurst, Moorlands, midas this year. All looking for something different.
  7. I don’t think there is much point trying to guess really. It is probably best we don't know! I am sure the children, who they think, at that point in time, will be best suited to classical training will get the MDS's, that is what the government allocated the funding awards for, how they decide that who knows? Maybe other children who have an excellent all round score are the ones offered bursaries? My DD did do a ballet solo, we were advised to do a different style as they would see the ballet in the audition class but she insisted, she loves ballet, so I said fine. It was done last minute.com, not perfect but fine, she liked it and she did get multiple offers. I don't think it matters what style, they are probably looking for love of dance and performance maybe a glimpse of personality, again who knows. Good luck everyone! I hope your children find the best place for them. One thing I do know is auditioning is stressful! for the parents!! time consuming and expensive. Not sure I could have done it again
  8. Pointe-less she is in year 8 at the moment. So the same age as your DD? My DD had started a small amount of very basic pointe ( interfoundation level) before she started in year 7. Some children had not done any, and it was slowly introduced, I think all had pointe shoes by Christmas?. It is still now at a very basic level. I have no idea of the level they need to be or what they would be looking for, for the MDS. The MDS is for classical though, they do have school scholoarships as well. The children in each year vary a lot, I would think they would still be looking for potential but with more technique than required for year 7. Children do develop at different rates. In year 8 about half have taken or are taking intermediate soon, some have just done interfoundation. I am not sure this is a good guide to ability though they are all lovley dancers and they seem to catch up quickly.
  9. Hello Pointe-less, It's not too bad.. I think the MDS is quite generous really. It does cover slightly different things at each of the four schools. I have found additional costs have been: Pocket money, as they need to buy more for themselves than they would if they lived at home. For instance they may run out of toiletries, need fruit/snacks/batteries/stuff to decorate room at halloween, Christmas ect, all sorts you wouldn’t think of. Cost of travelling to pick them up/ trains I hadn’t really thought too much about this before DD went but when you add it up ekkk. Days off work to pick them up/parents eve/performances ( I have used a lot of holiday up doing this or had to take slight salary sacrifice some months) This is probably the biggest extra for me Set up costs, bedding, school uniform which I think is very reasonable/ boarding clothes/ extra hair-dryer etc/ ( Although once initial shop had been done not so bad to top up) Postage - they forget all sorts and NEED? XYZ so in the post it goes. I know all the rates of postage! Some parents send nice things to their children - I am not great at this - will try harder. We ran out of our allocated ballet equipment budget. You may be Ok if you are a boy. But with pointe shoes we couldn’t stick to it. It is nice to have that though! Taxis if they need early class or doctors Mobile phone contract with data ( she would of had a very basic one if she was at home but they have only just got wifi in the boarding house and it is unreliable, so this was needed. Very modest amount for trips from the boarding house Birthday and Christmas presents for other children Optional trips ie France. Optional extra classes, music theory, extra instrument Rad exams and health insurance is included with MDS as is one music lesson, there is an excess though. I have probably forgotten some things, I am sure others will add. I have however saved lots of money on ballet lessons! I put that towards the petrol.
  10. Ballet mum20 I think some of them have a mock exam to see if they are ready for the rad exam they are working towards. Which I think are scheduled for November. Don't worry if they don't get chosen, they can do it later in the year. I think also It is assessments in November, which you eventually get a report from.
  11. Dancing shoes, my friend and I took our 12 year old girls, one of who is a toughy the other more sensitive, both were transfixed and would love to go back and watch again. If they are sensitive maybe sit further back. I think it is the music that heightens the sensation of darkness. Most 12 year olds I know would not be too frightened. So depends on your little person. Ps I just loved the bit they call the jelly fish. When they encircled Giselle, it reminded me of an internal living organ. Also where the cast made a wall with their bodies and the bit that reminded me of a sewing machine. I really enjoyed Stina Quagebeur she appeared to be floating! And James streeter has a lovley almost slightly feminine quality. Couldn't take my eyes off Oscar chacon I had not heard of him before but I will look out for him now and of course Tamara rojo. Hope we get to see it again sometime.
  12. This is what my DD says, Clovelly (younger girls) don't know about oldies: Breakfast is at the boarding house. Monday to Friday they can have cereal/toast sometimes yogurts and fruit and the special which changes daily, can be pancakes, porridge, croissants, beans different things. Breakfast is delivered hot if it is hot? Year 7 get help with making hot things if they want them at other times, year 8 do a bit more themselves. Apparently! Saturday: cereals and toast, yogurts Sunday: cooked breakfast DD says you can take your own cereal or whatever if you don't like any they have but there really is no need, they are fed really well!
  13. Oh Regattah, that's good to know. I just did what the matrons said ( maybe because my DD is younger) they need to have a good clean under those beds! Hehe. She is taking much less this year! Most of the space is bedding, towels and various stretching things! Hopefully she can leave some of that there. ????
