  1. Yes it is all bewildering! sounds like you have a lot more choice in terms of schools, I am sure other very helpful members have posted the various schools that apply to your dd's year group in other threads. Ax
  2. Hi I think if auditions are the same as last year for some schools they will start in November of this year through to April or May next year depending on individual schools. Maybe good idea to keep an eye on the various schools websites. Good luck what year is your dc going for? Ax
  3. Hi and welcome I have only heard very positive things about York scholars, they are running a summer school closing date June 20thGood luck Ax
  4. We are further north and received an invite through the post last year. We have our last Ja class so would have been difficult to attend if it is this weekend. Ax
  5. Hi welcome and congratulations you will receive a pack shortly with everything in it good luck!ax
  6. In response to curious's comments about comparing bodies at ja's my dd has danced various genres of dance from 3years old and is now 10, I would say she is very confident in that she is fit and feels fit and knows how to look after herself, is aware of what is healthy food, unfortunately the only comparing she has experienced and heard is at school from the classroom from children who are not physical in that their hobbies don't involve much physical activity. My dd has shared that she doesn't understand why these girls talk about themselves in this way. It is sad that the dancing world gets a bad image as the majority of people who have eating disorders have never stepped foot in a dance studio! A small minority may use exercise to burn calories faster but from a fitness perspective if someone was so ill they wouldn't have the energy to dance! I have also found in my experience Ja parents quite nice and not competitive most have been interesting, informative and good fun to be around. Ax
  7. Congratulations on dd's yes and wishing her a full recovery. Ax
  8. In my dd's grade 3 class I am aware the results were lower than usual by between 4 and 5 points. Still gaining distinctions. One girls results were higher probably due to private lessons. Our teacher made the girls aware that there was to be a trainee examiner accompanying the qualified examiner and that they would be double marked by both the experienced marker and trainee. In one of my dd's friends school they had the same experience both in terms of marks and 2 examiners. My dd has enjoyed the new graded work and is finding the old grade 4 quite easy in comparison. Ax
  9. Have you thought about maybe parking the car in one of the zone 3 overhead tube stations car parks and catching the tube into covent garden? Parking costs a fortune as does the congestion charges, good luck and enjoy the day!! Ax
  10. Welcome to the forum! Summer school looks excellent unfortunately my dd too young at 10! Good luck though I am sure there will be plenty of keen attendees!! Ax
  11. Hi REEM A few years ago when my dd was auditioning for year 4 we were a late entry and took our photos along to the audition with us. So maybe it is for reference after audition. Good luck to everyone auditioning and fingers crossed for those waiting for results. Ax

    Running

My dd who is ten runs cross country and athletics for her school. It has improved her aerobic fitness, not sure about muscle development as she tends to do more longer distance, I am aware that sprinting may develop bulkier muscle, however it may depend on the individual and how much natural muscle density they have as to how their muscles develop. At the moment though it for my dd it doesnt appear to be having a negative affect on her muscle development. I am sure Dr dance or Anjuli will possibly be able to offer a more informative indepth reply. Ax
  13. I think sometimes people say things without thinking. I am aware that when I moved to London in the 80's speaking in a northern Durham accent most people that I met within the first 6 months assumed when they heard me speak that I was Geordie (from Newcastle) and owned whippets/greyhounds and flat caps mainly associated with dog racing. Some peoples perceptions maybe if they dont have the opportunities to travel and mingle with the rest of the country can somewhat be misconstrued as to stereotype. Some people who hear a southern accent may assume its either upper class or cockney as this is sometimes extremely portrayed as so in the media. My partner who moved from London to the North was called the posh Cockney!! It seems so many people have their own impressions of what accents are associated with!! Ax
  14. Hi good luck to all mid associates for their appraisals and to those auditioning for jas Ax
  15. Hi i would echo what anjuli says and keep a close eye on her. It's obvious her confidence and emotions have taken a knock both with the weight comments and the unfortunate situation with regard to funding and her place at tring. This maybe her way of dealing with these knocks and sometimes to withdraw is another way of dealing with feeling wounded emotionally. Give her some space and time while as previously said letting her know you are there when she feels ready to engage again. You may find she may not want to talk about it and may just want to move on without much discussion around the subject. Possibly invite one of her close friends around to visit or possibly encourage her to indulge in something she enjoys and usually gains pleasure from. Ax
  16. Would it be worth contacting your insurance broker who supplies your home/car/contents insurance. One of my bank accounts has holiday insurance attached to it I havent looked at the policy for some time but I would assume a summer school is included as it is still a holiday. Ax
  17. Hi shocked at the rate a doctor charges it cant take that much admin work to tick a few boxes!! Re the other child it maybe that she/he is a different age to your daughter and at separate auditions so your paths have never crossed and also they maybe dont frequent the forums either! We live in a village and have bumped into people in the most obscure places and have even spoke to a couple once in the local spar who were abroad in the same place at the same time and we didnt even bump into each other!! Good luck in your quest to find them! Ax
  18. Commiserations to afab dd3 and pastel dd and congratulations to afab dd2! Ax
  19. Great news! Has your DD got a place? Ax
  20. Nice though at least they will all know one another. Ax
  21. Wow thanks for link that was amazing, a very different slant on swan lake, it totally challenges perceptions in that what you expect to see is something completely different and fascinating, even erring on the side of outrageous! My DD just pointed out that the male dancer/acrobat had took something off his head and laid it on the floor so maybe spanners theory on the mechanics could be correct! Will have to look out for them when they are next here! Ax
  22. It maybe she is disappointed and upset with the original course being cancelled so has chosen to do something completely different like going to her friends for a 'sleepover'. After all friends are a nice distraction and supportive at these kind of times! Ax
  23. Hi Katycustard Like you I didnt know what to expect it was a bit like stepping into the unknown and much the same with my dd, her attitude was to enjoy herself and the experience of attending an audition something that she had never done before. You never know the outcome and for us it was a really big surprise even to her teacher! Ax
  24. To Tango and tpss - Lovely new and congratulations well done to your DC!! Ax
  25. Lol!! I think my brain is working faster than my fingers tonight!! I thought i had included to say there were also 2 year 5's who also got in who had auditioned as year 4's same year as my DD that had a no and swl. Sorry for the confusion! I havent even had a sat night tipple either!! Ax
