  1. Congratulations tulip and little ballerina!! It so exciting to hear such wonderful news!! Ax
  2. Its a lovely experience from the audition through to casting and rehearsals then performance. This is my DD's first year and she is having a ball!! She is only into day 4 of rehearsals and absolutely loving it, she is making new friends, having fun and loving doing lots of dancing, enjoying being taught by various teachers, learning new routines and embracing the whole experience. Ax
  3. My DD was lucky enough to get a year 4 place and was also 8 at the time of audition, we had to wait until all auditions were finished too think it was about 4-6 weeks. We tended not to dwell on the letter arriving too much, first week after audition DD was on a total high from the whole experience and very excited then tended to calm down and didnt think too much about it after that until the letter came. Good for them to focus on their other dancing and hobbies/friends. Ax
  4. I would agree with Jellybeans, even though my DD's have no experience of vocational school as they are too young this I would imagine will be difficult to measure and compare?
  5. Hi I thought WH Smith used to order mags in at some point years ago? I know our local newsagent will order mags in if requested to. Good luck! Ax
  6. I am sure I read in one of the programmes for the BRB that Tyrone also trained at the Royal Ballet School, I am not sure at what stage of this training........
  7. Lovely news congratulations, I am sure someone on the forum will be able to enlighten you on who the teachers may be. Lovely news and congratulations! How amazing to have a choice, I hope she makes the right decision for her.
  8. Yes I suppose thinking about it if they did tell people what to expect then it wouldnt be an audition. My dd found the teachers to be very nice and put them at ease so they could focus on their dancing. My dd said they were asked to do various things in lines and as a big group. They did stretches too. Good luck and let us know how your dd gets on xx
  9. Last summer when my DD was 8 she attended the Northern Ballet in Leeds for a week with Michael Burkin, she had an absolute ball, it was non residential, I have never found any residential summer schools that take children at 8 it is normally 9, unless any one else can suggest anymore? Ax
  10. Hello and welcome! If you look on the RBS website they have JA for a day and from what I can gather these really are an insight into what children can expect. My DD just smiled and set out to have a nice time, her audition was just a very basic ballet class, she thoroughly enjoyed herself. If you look further down the forums there are posts and threads talking about JA's. Good luck where is your DD auditioning?

  18. I suppose if I lived back down in London I would be still be tempted to actually go and watch the ballet like zxDaveM as I guess you cant beat the actual ambience when sat in the audience. However we didnt seem to have any of the gliches that patsomerset had at their cinema therefore it was a very enjoyable smooth transmission. I am not sure whether the audience were aware of the cameras in the ROH Spannerandpony, during the intervals it was displaying lots of positive tweets from all around the world.....Brazil, Prague, Belfast and even some of the performers in the second interval!! At times it was hard to believe it was actually a live performance as the continuity was superb and we felt priviledged to have access to backstage views and interviews. It definitely gives a different perspective compared to actually being there and it is difficult to compare the two. When watching close ups of facial expressions and footwork etc of all the cast along with specific/overall shots it made us even more aware and appreciative of the committment and hard work that everyone puts in along with the backstage and preparations.
  19. We have just returned from the cinema after watching an amazing performance from the Royal Ballet Company, Lauren Cuthbertson and Federico Bonelli were captivating as Romeo and Juliet and had myself 2 daughters and Nana in tears at the end. Its the first time we have attended a live link performance and were astounded by the extras such as backstage shots, interviews with Macmillans wife, Dame Monica Mason and Lauren Cutherbertson along with Federico Bonelli. We were also treat to behind the scenes of sword fighting and other feasts!! We definitely look forward to the next performance!!
  20. congratulations to your DD what lovely news!! Ax

  22. Hello and welcome!! If you look further down the doing dance forum there is a discussion under 'mid associates' posts and 'the wait begins' that has some very interesting information and opinions with regards to mids from parents who have a wealth of knowledge and experience. Ax
  23. Sorry to hear your news.....good luck for your pending news for the funding final.
  24. Hi rachaelballet12 What a lovely article and pics. Thanks for recommending I wasnt aware an article was going in there!! DD very excited about the rehearsals only a few weeks to go now!! Ax
  25. I buy alot of my 2 DD's dance clothes and shoes on line and have been lucky, I have used the above suppliers and also traders from ebay. I always measure my DD's feet and always ask suppliers to do the same before I buy. I have bought numerous types of shoes, ballroom, jazz, character, ballet even dance sneakers. The only time there was a blip was when we received a pair of ballroom shoes one was a 12 and the other a 1, the supplier changed asap. I find the dance shops we have locally are never well stocked and there is a lack of choice so on line for us is great as there is always a wide selection and I am aware I have saved alot of money in the long run. My DD's are not at the age of using point shoes yet so I will be aiming to venture into such shops when the time does come as my knowledge of such shoes is completely zero!! Ax
