  1. It's for a week in the summer with the associate scheme she used to belong to (they opened the trip to ex-students as it's such a big opportunity) She is beyond excited
  2. Well Wiki says it's a good school & DD is going on an cultural exchange visit there She is excited & I am terrified
  3. Hi OnlyDance DD went to a workshop day with them once but it wasn't a good fit for her - she says the classes were excellent tho;
  4. I thought it unlikely but thought I should ask.... People store odd bits of knowledge
  5. But Ballet schools wouldn't let them wear 'non-uniform' we tried with our nude shoes......one school it was 'OK for class but for exams & shows you'll have to wear the proper uniform'
  6. Thanks Anna - passed them on to DD Where she lives now (at college) she is finding appropriate make up & hairdressers much more common than she did here - but new sources are always welcome
  7. It's so complicated & pink tights look awful over really dark skin - DD can just get away with it I have dyed her some canvas shoes the right colour - but it's hard to match anyones skin I guess, my dad always called my legs dayglo white!
  8. My friend came across this https://www.buzzfeed.com/alisoncaporimo/nude-dance-apparel-ftw?bffbmain&utm_term=.gcrE4QQArk#.end4PaaMBl which is nude dancewear for black & mixed race dancers I think it's great and some thing that is needed. I have whinged about it on here a few times, nude is rarely skin coloured
  9. DD has always taken the laces out & used elastics.....never understood why....
  10. I struggle quite a lot with contemporary - for me dance & music are entwined and if I don't like the music I struggle to like the dance - contemporary without music or with 'modern' (rather than classical or pop) music I kind of lose the plot a bit and don't really enjoy watching it
  11. Could you have it that one dancer does a sequence of moves the other dance copies then improvises a second selection of moves which the first dancer then copies (thinking of the Darcey& Dawn French skit) and so on back and forth introducing more & more fouettes until it is just about how many rather than the actual 'routine' that was being developed?
  12. If you put 'Move it 2016' into Youtube you get lots
  13. DH was DD's first dance teacher He can also do her hair (I can't I'm allergic to the product she uses) He drove her all over the country to comps until he couldn't any more He has only missed 2 performances (I've only miss 1 performance but many, many comps) But I do the sewing (he changes the loo roll ) & I think I might be one of those mums.....DD started late, worked very hard, improved very quickly, did well in exams, blew my mind with her progress & made me unbelievably proud which being combined with being a bit mouthy means......umm sorry!
  14. I'm really missing it this year Never mind, next time
  15. When DD was about 13 we went to see a show' one of the performers was her salsa teacher (who was a terrible tease) - she has been doing salsa for about 5 years then (holiday clubs & workshops) He pulled her up on the stage and held her hand - pointing at the two of them (tall cuban salsa man, little girl) and put his thumbs up the crowd roared no, he did it again, the crowd laughed He swung her hand round turning her in to perfect salsa hold (bum out) and they did a three minute set - the crowd went wild It's about not expecting what you get Pictures DH was in fits of laughter over your story - he said you could make it into a film
  16. Yes it was the 280 pts - not allowed to be made up of Dance/Music exams - but to include level 3 or A level results There was no way she would get Alevels at the local college - the teacher greet them on the first day with the topics they won't cover in class - generally good students spend 3-5 hrs a day on indepentant study & coursewwork so she would pretty much have to give up dance We look at her living with family for her Alevels to go to a better school but decided the Diploma was the best idea & tbh it's worked out fine & she is loving it
  17. I can't believe LSC have changed to a 16 start; DD will be gutted - shewas an associate there and so wanted to go at 16 but they said she had to have UCAS points and be 18 When did they change?
  18. She is! I fancy some of them & I can barely stand on a bad day DD is a bit the same & we "aren't going" this year but I want to maybe I should take someone else's children?
  19. DH did an open Tap class - It was almost beyond both him & DD DH & I did an intermediate Latin class - that DH would have taught to a beginner 10 yo So it's quite arbitrary I think
  20. & a level 2 in childcare isn't counted as a supervisory qualification - in a Nursery you'd need to have a level 3 to be in sole charge of children There are also isues with First Aid and Health and Safety at Work that you would have to address. I started my business at 35 and the pitfalls have been vast and totally unexpected
  21. Gosh I'd forgotten it was moving!!!! Sorry
  22. It depends on the piece some are better viewed from the balcony Often they are recorded and available on You tube
  23. DD started her DDI (Tap & Modern) this year There seem (I am no expert & my information is by teenager so may be warped!!) to be 4 units 1) Observation of classes & writing them up 2) Health & Safety (covered as part of DD's Diploma) 3) DD has to take some more exams (intermediate) 4) Actual teaching exam That doesn't help much does it? Sorry
