  1. Booking opened for Friends of the RBS last month and, apart from a limited number of Stalls Circle Standing places, the Amphitheatre was the only area that showed availability.
  2. It appears, from the Performance Data Base, that Raymonda was only performed abroad. It was performed by the Royal Ballet Touring Company. Here's a quote from the data base: "The Festival of Two Worlds at Spoleto commissioned this production for the 1964 festival. It was not subsequently taken into the company's repertoire." Here’s a link to the cast for that performance (led by Rudolf Nureyev and Doreen Wells!: https://www.rohcollections.org.uk/performance.aspx?performance=15701&row=0 ?????????????
  3. I've uploaded a photo of the summaries in the programme. The Forum software would only allow me to upload a very small file so I hope it's legible. Apologies for the folds. I couldn't get it to lie any flatter! Edited to add that I've just realised there might be problems with copyright. If so, could a Moderator please delete this post.
  4. A comment on a 2015 Vadim Muntagirov thread is probably close to the truth as it comes from a member of the Forum who was, at the time, closely associated with ENB:
  5. I think the very brightly shining lights during the overture (presumably intended to create a magical atmosphere in the auditorium) are a problem in many areas of the House. I was in the front row of the central block of the amphitheatre for the rehearsal, in the front side amphitheatre on the right for one performance and in the front side amphitheatre on the left for another. The problem was the same in all three places. The only way I could cope was either to hold my hands in front of my eyes or to close them. Friends who sat in other areas of the House had the same problem. I'd be interested to know if anyone has found an area of the House where these lights don't cause a problem. Maybe the stalls?
  6. Ryo, either the date is incorrect or you have posted the wrong cast. On Tuesday April 11 the cast is scheduled to be Naghdi/Ball.
  7. You're not wrong. Here's the Coppélia thread from that season:
  8. With thanks to Alexis29 on Dansomanie, here is the link to an interview with Laura Morera that appears to have been posted very early today. Edited to add that I hadn't realised it would be 'embedded'. I hope that's OK.
  9. If you look very carefully (you might have to pause the clip), you'll see that the train is behind her in the carriage. As she goes down the steps the train gradually becomes more visible and the courtiers take hold of it and straighten it out. Of course the clip is far too brief for this to be shown.
  10. Apologies. I knew the tv broadcast was the January of the year following the December filming but got the years wrong. The filming was December 2003 and the broadcast was January 2004. A DVD was, sadly, never released.
  11. I just checked the recording I made of the TV broadcast (recorded December 2022). Alina Cojocaru arrives in a carriage and two courtiers help her down the three steps from the carriage (not on point). She then bourrées* on the spot at the top of the stairs and the prince (Johan Kobborg) takes her hand and she comes down five steps on point, pauses on the fifth step (more bourrées) and comes down the remaining steps, still on point. All this time she has a very long transparent train attached to her shoulders. The courtiers initially hold the ends of it and, while she is bourréeing on the fifth step, the jester uses this opportunity to start to take hold of the train, eventually taking full possession of it as she finishes her descent of the stairs. *Apologies if my use of the term is inaccurate. My knowledge of ballet terms is not very wide so I don’t know if bourrée is the correct term if there’s no travel involved. Edited to clarify what happens to the train.
  12. Have replied to your previous message and sent you a PM. Do please let me know if you still want Amphitheatre L48 (£45). If I don't hear from you today, I shall return it to the Box Office tomorrow.
  13. So sorry, Balletforever. Since you didn't send me a PM I hadn't noticed this post. Let me know asap if you still want it as I was just about to contact the Box Office.
  14. I've just been to the website and Cinderella is currently the twelfth item on the list on the What's On page. I can't imagine what Alex Beard and others are seeing!
  15. I've just checked the original German and compared it to the Google translation. I'm afraid that, on this occasion, Google Translate got it completely wrong! For some reason Google Translate changed the word order. They put a phrase in the wrong place and made nonsense of the original text. For those who know German, the original is below. I've highlighted the phrase which refers to the initial five seasons of her contract and mentions that she's succeeding Christian Spuck.
  16. I'm not sure where you found that translation. Below is what I found on their website. It does seem that Cathy Marston's contract is, initially, for five seasons but I don't see any indication that Spuck will be returning after that. Renowned choreographer Cathy Marston will take over as new Ballet Director and Chief Choreographer of the Ballett Zürich. For an initial period of five years, this British-born, Swiss-bred artist will succeed Christian Spuck for the 2023/24 season, after he takes over artistic directorship of the Staatsballett Berlin. Spuck has successfully led the Ballett Zürich since 2012, and his switch to Berlin with the 2023/24 season will see him leading Germany’s largest independent ballet company. https://www.ballett-zuerich.ch/en/
  17. Re Cinderella Gala March 27 Amphitheatre L48 £45 A friend can no longer use the ticket I bought her for the Cinderella Gala, March 27. I was just about to return it to the Box Office but thought I should check here in case somebody on the Forum might want to use it. It's in the Amphitheatre, on the aisle immediately behind the staircase (L48). It's cheaper than other seats in that area because it's considered restricted view as it has a ledge in front of it. The advantage of this is that you have no audience members in front of you. If interested, please post here and also send me a PM. If there's no interest, I'll return it to the Box Office at the beginning of next week.
  18. I didn’t buy a programme but took a photo of the relevant page of a friend’s programme. Apologies for the quality of the photo.
  19. I’ve just checked the price of the same seats for the Kaufmann Werther (which will be very much in demand) They are £18 (as opposed to £22 for Beauty and Cinderella)
  20. Below are other examples which illustrate the thinking of those who set the prices. i.e. they clearly think a restricted view is less important for ballet than it is for opera! Front row Upper Slips (the ones furthest from the stage) Sleeping Beauty £22 Cinderella £22. Barber of Seville £15 Marriage of Figaro £16.
  21. Many thanks for this fascinating review, Sheila. I just saw that tonight's performance has been cancelled due to today's strikes but they haven't cancelled the cinema relay as they recorded the March 4 performance and are intending to stream that to cinemas.
  22. I have the original cast saved on my computer and it was as follows: Saturday 28 April 2018, 7.30pm Takada McRae Hay Choe Whitehead
  23. https://www.rohcollections.org.uk/performance.aspx?performance=32631&row=0&character=Lescaut&person=Hay&searchtype=workprodperf&title=Manon
  24. Also Elgar’s wife in Ashton’s Enigma Variations. She was due to be filmed as the gypsy in Two Pigeons but, due to injury, was replaced by Fumi Kaneko. Since she’s such a wonderful Ashton dancer, I’m hoping she’ll be the Fairy Godmother in the Cinderella cinema relay.
  25. The opera programmes are often more substantial than the ballet programmes and usually have a number of varied and interesting articles in them.
