  1. Yasmine Naghdi danced Kitri in the 2018/19 Season (with Marcelino Sambé as Basilio) Here's the cast list for March 2 2019: https://www.rohcollections.org.uk/performance.aspx?performance=33044&row=40
  2. There may not be any pillars but, in my experience, there are many seats from which it's not possible to see the whole Arena. As Alison says, there are many seats in the circle which have a restricted view. Even in the expensive seats in the Grand Tier there can be problems. In the past I've sat in the Grand Tier for rehearsals and, even there, I have found that there are seats from which I haven't been able to see the whole Arena. Only in the Stalls (and maybe in the front of the Loggia) have I been certain of having a full view. I'm sure there are full view seats elsewhere but I don't have personal experience of them.
  3. When ENB perform full length ballets at the Albert Hall, they perform them "in the round". This means that they perform in the arena.
  4. I think he was higher up than a stage hand. Kevin O'Hare did say that he started as a stage hand and progressed through many jobs until he reached his current position. I didn't remember the name so I've googled it and come up with the name of Peter Sullivan, Head of Technical Operations and Logistics who, according to Linked In, has been at the ROH since 1983. Even if this is the wrong person it's someone who should, most certainly, be congratulated for working for the ROH for such a long time. Maybe somebody else who was there could confirm or correct? Edited to add that I'm grateful to Thalia who has provided the correct name: "It was Gary Whiffen who is a Production Stage Senior Manager". It shows that Google can't answer every question!
  5. They were all Company members except, possibly, for one Aud Jebsen Young Dancer. A friend had told me he was having a problem identifying some of the newer members of the Company so I made a point of trying to see who was there. The following are the ones I think I saw - in the order they appear on the ROH website: Sophie Allnatt, Mica Bradbury, Hannah Grennell, Sae Maeda, Leticia Stock, Charlotte Tonkinson, Viola Pantuso, Amelia Townsend, Marianna Tsembenhoi, Yu Hang, Ginevra Zambon (all First Artists or Artists) and, I think, one of the Aud Jebsen Young Dancers, Scarlett Harvey. If I've made any mistakes, I'd be happy to be corrected.
  6. Remembering last week's discussion, I just thought to take a screen shot from my recording of the televised 2003 performance. Although the stage was clearly just as crowded as it is now, Cinderella appears to enter from a higher position - i.e. the staircase is longer. From my normal seat in the amphitheatre, I've always been able to see the entrance. The current problem appears to be with the sight lines in the lower areas of the House. I'd be interested to hear from Forum members who saw the last production from those lower areas. i.e. was Cinderella's entrance visible to all areas of the House in that production? If it was, then maybe the fault lies with the construction of the set rather than with the positioning of the dancers?
  7. I've checked my Jewels Blu Ray and the running time is a little over 90 minutes so the 120 minutes must include the interval.
  8. Here's the text you refer to, Emeralds "Help us get to London For the first time, you can donate your Qantas Points to help our dancers get to London for this special milestone event. If you donate 12,800 Qantas Points, The Australian Ballet will receive a $100 donation. A donation of 320,000 Qantas points would fund the return airfare of a dancer to London. We would be so grateful for any contribution, great or small. Every Qantas Points donation helps get us one step close to the Royal Opera House in London."
  9. I also got this email and what interested me was the opening sentence: "In what promises to be the most glamourous event of London’s cultural calendar, we are excited to be returning to the Royal Opera House in London this August for the first time in 35 years." If they haven't been here for 35 years, I'd like to know which company brought the Ratmansky Cinderella to the Royal Opera House in the Summer of 2016 Edited to add that Forum members have been quick to correct my faulty memory. Of course the 2016 season took place at the London Coliseum and not at the Royal Opera House
  10. Booking opened for Friends of the RBS last month and, apart from a limited number of Stalls Circle Standing places, the Amphitheatre was the only area that showed availability.
  11. It appears, from the Performance Data Base, that Raymonda was only performed abroad. It was performed by the Royal Ballet Touring Company. Here's a quote from the data base: "The Festival of Two Worlds at Spoleto commissioned this production for the 1964 festival. It was not subsequently taken into the company's repertoire." Here’s a link to the cast for that performance (led by Rudolf Nureyev and Doreen Wells!: https://www.rohcollections.org.uk/performance.aspx?performance=15701&row=0 ?????????????
  12. I've uploaded a photo of the summaries in the programme. The Forum software would only allow me to upload a very small file so I hope it's legible. Apologies for the folds. I couldn't get it to lie any flatter! Edited to add that I've just realised there might be problems with copyright. If so, could a Moderator please delete this post.
  13. A comment on a 2015 Vadim Muntagirov thread is probably close to the truth as it comes from a member of the Forum who was, at the time, closely associated with ENB:
  14. I think the very brightly shining lights during the overture (presumably intended to create a magical atmosphere in the auditorium) are a problem in many areas of the House. I was in the front row of the central block of the amphitheatre for the rehearsal, in the front side amphitheatre on the right for one performance and in the front side amphitheatre on the left for another. The problem was the same in all three places. The only way I could cope was either to hold my hands in front of my eyes or to close them. Friends who sat in other areas of the House had the same problem. I'd be interested to know if anyone has found an area of the House where these lights don't cause a problem. Maybe the stalls?
  15. Ryo, either the date is incorrect or you have posted the wrong cast. On Tuesday April 11 the cast is scheduled to be Naghdi/Ball.
  16. You're not wrong. Here's the Coppélia thread from that season:
  17. With thanks to Alexis29 on Dansomanie, here is the link to an interview with Laura Morera that appears to have been posted very early today. Edited to add that I hadn't realised it would be 'embedded'. I hope that's OK.
  18. If you look very carefully (you might have to pause the clip), you'll see that the train is behind her in the carriage. As she goes down the steps the train gradually becomes more visible and the courtiers take hold of it and straighten it out. Of course the clip is far too brief for this to be shown.
  19. Apologies. I knew the tv broadcast was the January of the year following the December filming but got the years wrong. The filming was December 2003 and the broadcast was January 2004. A DVD was, sadly, never released.
  20. I just checked the recording I made of the TV broadcast (recorded December 2022). Alina Cojocaru arrives in a carriage and two courtiers help her down the three steps from the carriage (not on point). She then bourrées* on the spot at the top of the stairs and the prince (Johan Kobborg) takes her hand and she comes down five steps on point, pauses on the fifth step (more bourrées) and comes down the remaining steps, still on point. All this time she has a very long transparent train attached to her shoulders. The courtiers initially hold the ends of it and, while she is bourréeing on the fifth step, the jester uses this opportunity to start to take hold of the train, eventually taking full possession of it as she finishes her descent of the stairs. *Apologies if my use of the term is inaccurate. My knowledge of ballet terms is not very wide so I don’t know if bourrée is the correct term if there’s no travel involved. Edited to clarify what happens to the train.
  21. Have replied to your previous message and sent you a PM. Do please let me know if you still want Amphitheatre L48 (£45). If I don't hear from you today, I shall return it to the Box Office tomorrow.
  22. So sorry, Balletforever. Since you didn't send me a PM I hadn't noticed this post. Let me know asap if you still want it as I was just about to contact the Box Office.
  23. I've just been to the website and Cinderella is currently the twelfth item on the list on the What's On page. I can't imagine what Alex Beard and others are seeing!
