  1. Those signs were held up in the Balcony Monday night. They were held up before the performance and also at the end of the interval.
  2. Thanks Sheila. Here’s the link: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/sep/02/arts-funding-england-government-levelling-up
  3. Thanks for drawing our attention to this, Lizbie. Here's a bit more detail, pasted in from the Cecchetti Society Trust website: Cecchetti Society Centenary Gala 24th October 2022 - Save the Date! THE LINBURY THEATRE, ROYAL OPERA HOUSE, COVENT GARDEN The Cecchetti Society Trust Centenary Gala will take place at the Linbury Theatre, Royal Opera House, Covent Garden on Monday 24th October. The programme will celebrate the range and beauty of the Cecchetti work and feature performances from vocational students through to professional dancers. Funds raised from the Gala will go to support the work of The Cecchetti Society Trust in providing Scholarships and bursaries for young dancers and teachers training in the Cecchetti Method. Booking information and programme details to follow soon. https://www.cecchettisocietytrust.org/centenary-gala-2022
  4. That metal support isn't in the same place for every production. Maybe this is why they don't mark the seats in any way? I used to have a favourite seat in the front row of the Coliseum Balcony. A few years ago, the metal support you mention was in front of it for a January ENB production. It was moved elsewhere for the ENB production of the following June. I've tried asking Front of House staff about it but have never been able to get any explanation from them.
  5. Found the following on the ROH website: The Royal Opera House streaming service will relaunch in autumn 2022 with a season of exciting productions. We look forward to announcing our new streaming season in the coming weeks. https://www.roh.org.uk/stream/ There's a 'register for updates' option but it's not 'clickable'.
  6. Are you referring to Balcony A53? (see picture below) If so, the picture is inaccurate. I can't understand how they got that camera angle as I've sat in A53 for rehearsals and the balcony rail has hardly been noticeable. Edited to add that the equivalent end of row seats in rows B and C in the central block of the Balcony are severely affected by the balcony rail and are also £101. I've just realised that you might have meant those seats.
  7. Those responsible for the ROH website have produced a very strange pricing structure for the Nutcracker. Last week I noticed an anomaly in the rear half of the amphitheatre. In the side blocks of rows R and S the better seats near the aisle were priced at £30 but the seats which were furthest from the centre and those next to the wall were priced at £47. In rows N and P the seats nearest the aisle were £47. Next to them was a block of £30 but, again, the ones closest to the wall were £47. Last week I wrote to the Box Office (attaching the price map below) to point out this anomaly so that they could correct it before Public Booking opened. They thanked me and wrote that they had forwarded it to the relevant team. Now that Public Booking has opened, I have checked the seating plan on the website and nothing has changed! Edited to add that I only just noticed that, in row M, there is a block of seats at £30 but the single seat next to them (and against the wall) is £47!
  8. Thank you Lynette. You encouraged me to explore a little further and I found this 1959 clip: https://bbcrewind.co.uk/asset/600569730265c000279aa08b?q=ballet&size=30 This is how it's described on the website: "The Royal Ballet School in Richmond, Surrey recently decided to make a completely new departure in its policy by offering a number of scholarships to young male dancers. Our reporter spoke to the Director of the Royal Ballet School Mr Arthur Haskell about it. Includes scenes of ballet dancers dancing in studio."
  9. I just saw the following clip on CNN. It shows ballet continuing in Odessa despite the air raids: https://edition.cnn.com/videos/world/2022/07/25/ukraine-odesa-opera-house-ballet-defiance-intl-watson-pkg-intldsk.cnn/video/playlists/russia-ukraine-military-conflict/ I hope the link works. Here is how they describe it: "See the defiant ballet performance punctuated by air raid sirens Amid a brutal war with Russia, the shows at a 135-year-old opera house in the southern city Odesa still go on. CNN's Ivan Watson goes to a ballet performance that is punctuated by air raid sirens as the port city is being periodically pounded by Russians."
  10. if you’re accessing the page on a phone, the prices might not show up until you click on ‘filters’.
  11. Could this be because of the colour display on the device you're using? On my desktop, the extreme sides of the front block of the Stalls are £151, the next price in is £161 and the centre block is £170.
  12. The price chart is now up and the best Upper Slips seats for The Magic Flute are £15 (as opposed to £22 for Beauty). https://www.roh.org.uk/seatmap?performanceId=51369 All I can think is that the department which sets the prices for ballet is not the same as the one that sets the prices for opera.
  13. Just noticed that the price map for Beauty is now on the website: https://www.roh.org.uk/seatmap?performanceId=51328
  14. Assuming the pricing structure for Beauty is the same as the pricing structure for Nutcracker, even the four restricted view seats in the very back row (row W) will be priced at £22. These seats used to be the same price as Stalls Circle Standing - i.e. in the former pricing structure they would have been only £12! It is worth noting that, if the Nutcracker pricing structure is used for Beauty, the rest of the seats at the very rear of the Amphitheatre will be £34!
  15. It's still on the BRB website: https://www.facebook.com/bhamroyalballet/videos/2257332234419592 You'll need to forward past the screen which mentions technical difficulties.
  16. Grace Horler was an Aud Jebsen apprentice in the 2014/15 season (as was Ashley Dean). This was the first year of the scheme. On leaving the Royal Ballet Grace joined Scottish Ballet and is now a soloist in that company. https://www.scottishballet.co.uk/profile/grace-horler/biography
  17. Mods, might it be possible to gather all the comments on the RBS Summer Performance in the same place? At the moment, some comments are here and others are in the News Forum. Maybe it could have its own thread in this Forum?
  18. Thanks for that, BBB. I hadn't looked at the separate listing for Slips in the opera prices and had, wrongly, assumed that the price for opera in the Upper Slips would be in the same position in the list as the price for ballet in the Upper Slips. Having the prices listed without reference to exact areas of the auditorium can make it difficult to interpret the information. As for the pricing being incorrect, I think that's unlikely as those same front amphitheatre side seats are priced at £33 for the Diamond Celebration performances.
  19. The ROH Winter Magazine has just arrived and contains an insert with the provisional pricing. Front side amphitheatre seats (where many regulars sit) are now priced at £34 for The Sleeping Beauty (a £4 increase compared to the Nutcracker and Mayerling prices). Interestingly, the next price down is £22 and I assume this is for the better Upper Slips seats. These same Upper Slips seats are only £15 for The Magic Flute and The Barber of Seville. This doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense as the wonderful acoustic in the Upper Slips is great for opera but the poorer sightlines should surely mean that the Upper Slips ought to be cheaper for ballet than for opera.
  20. + As a result of the pandemic, the 2020/21 Aud Jebsen Young Dancer programme was extended to enable dancers the opportunity to gain experience performing with the Company. That Season’s intake – Denilson Almeida, Daichi Ikarashi, James Large, Hanna Park, Maddison Pritchard and Marianna Tsembenhoi - now become Artist, joined by Viola Pantuso from the 2021/ 22 cohort.  Olivia Findlay, Ava May Llewellyn and Alix Van Tiggelen have had their Aud Jebsen Young Dancer contracts extended into the new Season. For the 2022/23 Season, five graduates from The Royal Ballet School join the Aud Jebsen Young Dancers Programme: Alicia Rose Couvrette, Martin Diaz, Luc Foskett, Scarlett Harvey and Ella Newton Severgnini. Marco Masciari, the Prix de Lausanne dancer for the 2020/21 Season, also joins the Company as an Artist. Darrion Sellman graduate of the Princess Grace Academy in Monaco and gold medallist at the 2022 Prix de Lausanne, joins as the Prix de Lausanne dancer for the 2022/23 Season.
  21. I called the Coliseum Box Office last week and was told that, at this stage, there are no plans to open up the Balcony for booking. I imagine that this will only change if they manage to fill up the rest of the auditorium.
  22. I have a recording of the television broadcast of the Queen Mother's eightieth Birthday gala and have never been able to understand why they only showed the pas de deux from Rhapsody whereas they broadcast the whole of Mam'zelle Angot. Does anybody know the reason for this?
  23. http://links.mail.officiallondontheatre.co.uk/servlet/MailView?ms=NDY5NzE4NzgS1&r=NzcxMTkxMTc1NDQ5S0&j=MjI2MTUwODU3MgS2&mt=1&rt=0 Edited to add that I posted this before I realised that the reduction was only on the second highest price.
  24. I'm not able to use Circle C29 for New English Ballet Theatre in the Linbury this coming Saturday, June 18 7.45pm. It's an aisle seat and the ticket is £10 (instead of £15) since, although the seat faces the stage, there's a pillar which slightly obscures the very side of the stage. I've never found this to be a problem. If interested please send me a PM and also post here to let me know that you've done so.
