  1. RMT members accept new pay offer by 3 to 1 majority ☺
  2. Not only distractions from playing loud music..... On the train, in cafes, in the street, wherever, people are now apparently talking abstractedly into thin air, seeming like they have some sort of a problem condition until you realise you are having to listen to one half of a stranger's hands-free mobile phone conversation. Maybe the Coliseum should be allowing this during performances as well, to further "enhance one's enjoyment".
  3. Sympathy for that problem Dawnstar...Would it have been possible, in turn, to ask politely the people leaning forward in front of you to sit back properly?
  4. Yasmine Naghdi has shared a photo on Instagram of Tiler Peck with 5 of the RB female principals after a class together, including Akane Takada. Hopefully this bodes well for her rehabilitation progress after injury.
  5. Yes I found this aspect quite uncomfortable, seen live....somehow I had not noticed it on the 2017 recording. Much of the movements seemed more redolent of pole dancing than ballet! Apart from the questionable taste, a lot of the choreography could be criticised for laziness in terms of its repetitiveness. Pleased that the Tiler Peck went well though...I checked out tickets for tonight but it was sold out.
  6. In addition to the excellent dancers mentioned by Sim I would add that I was impressed with Ashley Dean as a very graceful Young Clarissa. She is really coming into her own now as a Soloist.
  7. I think the RB is very fortunate to be retaining Morera in a coaching role..she was excellent with Annette Buvoli and Amelia Townsend.... both of whom look very promising for their respective debuts. A very enjoyable Insight all round.
  8. Yes they also screened this a few weeks ago. I don't like Nureyev's version at all I am afraid.
  9. Though they do tend to wriggle around a lot and speak out RATHER LOUDLY! 🙄..and not just 4 year olds!
  10. Akane came back from injury in time for Like Water For Chocolate last year, but as previously mentioned, unfortunately she sustained an injury again at the beginning of this year. I understand she hopes to be back for Cinderella in April. I don't know whether Sambe is injured... hopefully it's just a casting tweak.
  11. Like Clapton, I would regard Hendrix as innovative in his own way and I don't link him with the particular rock genre that became known as Heavy Metal...not when you listen to something as sensitive and complex as "Little Wing" for example. If anything those two fantastic guitarists are/ were Blues inspired, as indeed was the brilliant Rory Gallagher. Personally I think that the music of Hendrix would be much more interesting as a potential ballet score than Black Sabbath's output....but then of course he didn't come from Birmingham!
  12. Fumi is on superb form! 😍 Great audience reception for her...
  13. I thought Matthew Ball performed a beautifully sensitive DOTBS and it was great to see Steven McRae back on such exhuberant form. Fresh for me (not having seen them before) were the stand-out performamces of Madison Young as Giselle, and Margarita Fernandes & Antonio Casalinho in Diana and Actaeon. Amazing young dancers....and I see they are all currently at The Bayerisches Staatsballett! That company looks to have a brilliant line-up at present...it wouid be great if they could visit the UK!
  14. I understand she does hope to be back in April for Cinderella 🙏
  15. She will be a Lilac Fairy attendant, and a Marchioness, for this part of the SB run. Best wishes for her return after so long!
  16. Yes of course but my "why change it?" was really a rhetorical question! ☺ Whilst on the subject of BRB at the Hippodrome, can anyone please suggest what seating area might be best for seeing The Nutcracker with a pint sized 7 year old?
  17. Also I thought Yu Kurihara was very good as both Mercedes and the Queen of the Dryads... But why have they used different music (from the RB version) for the lovely PDD at the beginning of Act 2? It doesn't seem to fit the choreography at all well....😕
  18. Indeed....our young grandchildren seem fine with stories I find unpleasant.
  19. Yes, more RB Ashton please ...Fille definitely a must. Even if, for an arguably over-sensitive fear about causing offence, the hitherto portrayal of Alain were seen to be somehow objectionable, I don't see that the whole ballet would need be ditched for that - his character trait is not really crucial to the story and could be tweaked into e.g. more of a show-off than a simpleton. Whilst on that subject, though, I find his breast-poking (as seen in the Nunez/Acosta recording) to be jarring and unnecessary and presumably it would not be repeated today. I would love to see The Dream too - hopefully themes such as child trafficking, substance abuse, mockery of rustics, partner swapping, and over-fondness of an animal, could be covered by a suitable content warning 🤔😄
  20. Isn't this a wonderful PDD, to one of Tchaikovsky's most sublime pieces? I appreciate it all the more having recently watched Balanchine's NYBC version on TV, where the equivalent characaters are too young for a PDD and nothing is danced to this music (just one of the many faults in what is a pretty awful production IMHO, barring one or two highlights in Act 2).
  21. Whilst I don't think contemporary movement can be regarded as sinful, it sometimes makes me feel I am going through purgatory 🤣....whilst classical ballet can certainly be heavenly!
