    Wow, from some of the above contributions, with their eclectic mix of performances seen from diverse Companies at home and abroad, I see I still have a long way to go to become a true ballet fan! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Ballet Year to all.

    Joseph Sissens is having a great Nutcracker season...first as Hans Peter in the cinema screened cast, and yesterday debuting as the Prince with Akane Takada as the SPF at the Christmas treat matinee for NHS workers.     Not "Booking" as such but is anyone else finding the links to the details of individual RB dancers are no longer working? I am getting this message: Server error (error 503) Sorry, it looks like we are having some server issues. Please return to the homepage or try again shortly. Customer services say they can access them, and have suggested the following: Clear your browser data and cache Use incognito mode to access our website Use a different browser Use a different device but I have tried all these to no effect.

    Thank you Tango Dancer, that about sums up my thoughts seeing this live at the ROH. A lovely evening of ballet to wonderful music, with plenty of goosebump moments. Such a delight after the Mayerling misery!

    I understand that argument, but it is not as if all the other Snowflake dancers are wearing tights or shoes that match their own varied flesh tones....to achieve that all the tights would need to be transparent. They all wear very pale white tights presumably to give a uniformity of line and a colour representative of snow. The one darker colour looks rather odd, to me, in this particular context.

    Done - voted for RB Swan Lake - Fumi Kaneko's amazing debut with Federico Bonelli's emotional farewell. (assuming I won't see a better performance by the end of this month - which is pretty unlikely nothwithstanding a couple of upcoming Nutcrackers).

    Interesting...that is a pretty large painting! £450 seems quite cheap for an original work like this , but perhaps the market for this sort of subject, on this scale, is somewhat limited. Also it looks to me more like Steven McRae than Ed Watson!

    Really? Presumably that would only apply to people having a row A, B or C Stalls Circle ticket....Imagine happily sitting in say C23 in the Orchestra Stalls then realising you have to move to C23 in the Stalls Circle! I can't understand people not being sufficiently interested in where they will be sitting in a theatre until the last minute! Edit...From Rob's post, other rows were involved for some reason...

    Yes from their remarkable performances in these extremely physically demanding PDDs you would never have guessed that Takada/Hirano were short-notice pairings, and the same can be said for Takada/Ball on Friday...the latter perhaps even more so given that (as far as I know) they haven't danced together in any major lead roles before.

    Looking back on the Forum I see that 4 years ago Mayerling struck me thus: I am very glad to have seen two live performances but I don't think Mayerling is ever going to be a favourite for me. I can't really get emotionally attached to this true, depressing story, and Rudolph in particular, and find it a pretty jarring sudden transformation for him to go (via a bit of botheration with his mother and some Hungarian separatists) from princely rake to someone prepared to seriously abuse and scare his new wife. Similarly I can't really understand Mary's own transformation into a young woman apparently prepared to sacrifice herself at the whim of an unbalanced misogynist, albeit the leads playing Mary give it everything they have got. Also I find the music, for the most part, more by way of a disjointed soundtrack than a wonderfully themed score that enhances the dancing. This still pretty much sums up the ballet for me ... I am not particularly gripped by the story, or by the dancing, for the majority of the (overly long) production. Indeed the whole drama of the performance seems to me to grind to a halt during the tedious" Ich Scheide" song. The stand-out exceptions are the explosive, erotically mad PDDs at the end of Acts 2 and Act 3 - which were exceptionally well performed by Takada and Ball notwithstanding the very short notice of their pairing - and Mary Vetsera's little solo in her house in Act 2, in which the delightful Takada was absolutely in her element as the essence of balletic grace and balance. Her performances are always worth revisiting, hence I won't be cancelling my ticket for Tuesday! Something to query, not noticed before .... what's with the wanton destruction of two alpacas at the beginning of the shooting party scene? 🤣
