  1. No disrespect to Nicol Edmonds, but I was musing why the only other male Principal not otherwise cast as The Prince, Ryoichi Hirano, isn't stepping in for Sambe. Is Ryoichi still away at Northern Ballet, or otherwise engaged perhaps?
  2. On the Ballet/Dance News & Information Forum we had some discussion about Cinderella's entrance. In the Sibley DVD version, and also in the broadcast Cojocaru 2003 version, she comes down the stairs with a long transparent train attached to her shoulders, partly at least on pointe for which she aided by the Prince, although she forwards in wonder without being aware of him. She then bourrées a long way forward on her own (the Prince walking admiringly alongside) to the front of the stage, all this time still staring forwards as if in a dream. Only then does she "come to" and acknowledge the Prince. It is a lovely passage. Fonty found that this had been changed in some later You Tube clips (I am not sure which versions) to have her engaging with the Prince earlier, on the stairs, which I would think may remove some of the magic. How is this wonderful moment being handled now…the same as the original, or changed at all?
  3. I need to reserve judgement for the same reason, but as seen in the photos, the fairy costumes don't look too garish to me...I think they look cheerful, bright and fresh, and if they are distinguishable from the style of the lovely costumes for other ballets, and identifiably "the Cinderella fairies" I would regard that as no bad thing.
  4. Well the good reviews and general excitement have just been adding to my feeling of live ballet drought....so I am afraid the last two tickets for Nunez/Muntagirov on 5th April just had to be snapped up!
  5. Yes I agree ...they were a super pair. Much promise for RB's future with youngsters of this quality. I thought it a bit weird that two of the other couples both did the Grand Pas. Both couples did struggle with the timing when they had to drop down on one knee together (sorry I don't have a better technical term). It is so impressive when a couple judge it correctly, as per both times I have seen Bracewell dance it (with Magri and Nunez respectivelly)....but then we are talking of established Principals! Anyway, well done all.
  6. Thanks Bluebird, yes you are right I can see this now you have explained it.....
  7. For me at least the only way these times make any sense is by use of the recording facility on the YouView box.
  8. Thaks Geoff, some great posters from the past and yes I am sure more recent ones would be popular. You would think that they could also sell more photos of the dancers. Unfortunately the ROH shop and its marketing has been pretty poor for some time.
  9. This is the clip I saw...https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://m.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DzD2gCpLr2V0&ved=2ahUKEwjmjrmHjvX9AhUSRsAKHZlIBigQwqsBegQIDRAF&usg=AOvVaw1yY4TREnCuT-85iFmKse6V.....she only appears to leave the coach wearing a short transparent cape on this occasion....
  10. Do you mean 2003 Bluebird? I think the Cojocaru and Kobborg clip I saw was an ROH trailer advertising the 2010/11 ROH run and I now believe this trailer was from a TV broadcast aired in December 2003. (In 2011 it seems Alina danced it with Polunin). I am not aware of any DVD of Alina's RB Cinderella ....or more recent TV broadcast ......but am I mistaken? I would have loved to see her full performance...
  11. I am glad they explain the unfamiliar, complex story so fully! 😂
  12. I remember the gasps from many of us in the audience at the opening of Act 3 of Liam Scarlett's new version of Swan Lake when we saw John Macfarlane's design for the ballroom for the first time. A "you had to be there" moment!
  13. In the Sibley DVD version she comes down the stairs in her tutu, staring forwards in wonder…there is a long transparent train attached to her shoulders, held up by the Jester some way behind. She steps normally (for a ballerina!) down about a dozen steps (met about half way down by the Prince who takes her hand) then pauses on pointe, before taking the last three steps on pointe (one hand still held by the Prince) and then she bourrées a long way forward, unsupported on her own (train still held by the Jester, the Prince walking admiringly alongside) to the front of the stage, all this time still staring forwards as if in a dream. It is a really magical moment! She than “comes to”, notices and acknowledges the Prince with a courtesy, attendants remove the train, and the dancing begins…..! In a Boston Ballet clip (still Ashton) she is on pointe down at least four steps, looking forward, and the commentator explains the Prince has to squeeze her hand to let her know when to step… I have only found a snippet of a later (2010?) version of the steps entrance, where Cojocaru looks to be wearing a fairly short transparent cape, not held up by anyone. It looks like she is partly on pointe again but the clip is too short to make things out exactly, and doesn’t show what happens next.
  14. Whatever the criteria, it seems clear that being someone who normally goes for cheaper seats is not a reason for being excluded from the discount offer, going by the posts, for example, of JNC above, along with Mummykool and MildConcern.
  15. Perhaps you could explain this to the ROH and see if they will offer you a discount?
  16. So it could be Friends who have already booked the category of seats I referred to above PLUS Friends who have not yet booked at all...and perhaps not everyone in these categories has yet been sent the appropriate email?
  17. But you can get a credit note for future purchases (less £4 admin fee).
  18. It seems to be for people who have already booked for seats other than those in the categories now offered for a discount (i.e. other than the specified seats on the 3 given dates next week)...but I stand to be corrected if anyone has been offered a discount otherwise?
  19. There may be some logic in that though, at least from the ROH's viewpoint......assuming the original ticket was in "stalls and one of the top 4 price bands". In that case, presumably, if the discount applied to people already booked on a discount date they could just return their original ticket and buy it again (or a similar one) for 25% less.
  20. Yes maybe Cinderella at Christmas would have been a better choice instead of Nutcracker for once. Perhaps trying to recoup finances by having three very highly priced Classics in a row is ill judged.
  21. Yes that works! ...search http://www.roh.org.uk/‎ in the Wayback Machine (Geoff's link) and you can get a calendar of numerous dates that the ROH site was copied. Pick a date when the site was more to your liking, and there you have it... Thank you Geoff, this looks like a brilliant "fix"!
