I get very bad repeated hiccups and once had the hiccups for a full twenty minutes of a concert at the Royal Albert Hall. Had no water, no amount of breathing techniques were getting rid of them, they were quiet enough that only my immediate neighbour could hear but luckily he was very good-humoured about it and even offered me a glass of water in the interval. I was mortified throughout but glad that the stranger sat next to me had the grace to not make me feel any worse for something unavoidable. Sometimes it happens!

Looking through my booking history they’re C91 and C22 - view is heavily restricted thanks to the pillar so I wouldn’t recommend if you’re seeing something for the first time but it’s very close up. It’s always a toss up between seeing the lot from far off or seeing some it but close when you’re on a budget — so I’ll mix and match between amphitheatre slips and the stalls circle pillar seat!

Marianna has really been eye-catching this season, her peasant girl mime interaction with Giselle earlier this year was very charmingly done and I enjoyed seeing her small moment with the prince last night. Had an amazing night last night, all the changes were seamless and danced to perfection. I’ve not seen Sarah Lamb as Odette/Odile before but after the small bit we got last night I’m going to have to try see her perform it as she was a real highlight. Marianela Nuñez was her usual perfection, I was hoping she’d get Act 3! I hope they raised a lot of money as it was an impressive show!

Returning to box office today. -
Hi! Selling my ticket for Saturday evening’s performance and wanted to offer it here before going to the box office. seat is A86, £14. Restricted but definitely one of the best for that price — I think it’s on the aisle judging by the seating plan. Thank you!

ENB did La Sylphide about four years ago as a double bill with Song of the Earth. It was a lovely production.

Royal Ballet's Swan Lake (Spring 2022)
ctas replied to MJW's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
What an incredible night last night was! A fantastic debut and a beautiful farewell. I find I’m more fond of this production of Swan Lake the more I see it — last night was my third time (opening night was first, then one performance in 2020) and I find I’m always just so dazzled by the beautiful and detailed design work. I personally don’t mind the constant presence of von Rothbart, it suggests a mastermind-type who’s routinely disabling regimes and claiming their thrones. I think the corps de ballet yesterday were sublime, not a feather out of place. I don’t mind the ending too much either, I’ve seen many I’ve disliked a lot more. Bonelli makes a very passionate Prince; passionate about his refusal of his mother’s insistence that he marry, passionate in his love and passionate in his mistakes. Kaneko’s Odette was incredible, her port de bras is mesmerising. Her Odile was dazzling! I won’t forget any of it any time soon and wish I could see this partnership perform again! and then seeing that many legends on stage to give Bonelli a farewell! I had an incredible night. Not to rave but I really can only rave about how good it all was!- 1,276 replies

ctas replied to MJW's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
@AnneL just booked tickets for the 4th yesterday, lucky timing! Our last Swan Lake was the 6th March 2020 matinee, also a Bonelli performance. I thought he was marvellous with Takada so really looking forward to next week.- 1,276 replies

What Got You Into Watching Ballet?
ctas replied to Dawnstar's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
I was indoctrinated at an early age; baby ballet lessons, being taken to Covent Garden is one of my earliest memories. @AnneL (my mum) is probably the more interesting story and it was her love of ballet that got passed on to me! -
ENGLISH NATIONAL BALLET: RAYMONDA
ctas replied to capybara's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
The rose was in honour of her first performance as a principal being Aurora in Sleeping Beauty. Tamara Rojo gave a very touching speech. I quite enjoyed this today! While some of the story was still minimal and didn’t seem so important to me, the dream section was a real highlight for me. The costumes are gorgeous. I’m going to see Rojo’s Cinderella in Stockholm later this year so very excited to see that production now that Raymonda has given me a good idea of how her other work might look. -
Me too, Tierney Heap has such wonderful stage presence and I couldn’t believe it’s been almost two years since she was last on stage. A very welcome return.

I really enjoyed last night’s performance. I wasn’t totally sold on The Cellist but found it very moving and emotional at the end, and Beatriz Stix-Brunell was really wonderful in the role.

Ballet in Havana February 2020 - advice please
ctas replied to JulieW's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
I’m sure my mum who’s on this forum also will remember better but I believe we booked (nine years ago) through our hotel and we don’t speak a lot of Spanish. You could only buy in person, I believe at the theatre is an option also. The theatre is a gorgeous building, fairly central if I remember. We got front row seats for The Nutcracker, and (like a lot of things in Cuba) tourists had to buy separate tickets from locals. -

Returned to box office and looks like it’s back on sale (even though they haven’t confirmed to me yet). -
I managed to grab a full list of the cast changes from today — if no one else has them I can post later as the photo is sadly too big to post. Just off to BRB Giselle now though!

Further to AnneL’s post, I was actually unaware of how much she’d accomplished at the moment she walked into that auditorium back in 2011 but will never forget that moment! The awe and respect in that room for her was quite something. Happy to say that I was swiftly filled in on some essential ballet history.
