  1. My eldest dd character was from the red shoes, nice ballet work building to a frenzied dance ay the end; she always placed well with it. My youngest current character is first time at the beach, dressed as a man with mustache and vintage swimwear. It's got lovely ballet work in but very funny at the same time.
  2. Can anyone recommend any nice leotards suitable for auditions? My eldest DD has a few workshops coming up and is after some new dancewear. She's a ladies small and has a gorgeous hourglass figure with quite a large bust (she's incredibly self concious). She doesn't feel comfortable in two piece sets so we're looking for leotards to suit her figure. She can't really do without a bra so the strappy back ones aren't ideal either. Are there any bras that can be recommended too? She's a 32dd so we struggle to find supportive ones for under dancewear.
  3. I wasn't told how many on list just that my DD wasn't likely to secure funding as she isn't close to the top.
  4. Yes I did, I know of a couple of others who've been in touch today too. Haven't heard of any MDS awards as yet so there doesn't seem to be many.
  5. Thank you everyone. Realistically the chances of her attending this year are very low, she's not very high up on reserve list and even the reduced fees discussed with them are out of reach for us. I'm just waiting to see my DD after school but I think she'll be fine, she's a laid back character by nature so I'm sure she'll take it in her stride. It seems this year her hypermobility has been biggest cause of concern for all the schools we tried, though her strength has improved immensely over the last year. I'm sure she'll be raring to do it again next year
  6. Reserve list for my DD too ? she knows can only attend if got a MDS so bursaries won't be of any use to us. Good luck to those still waiting
  7. Thank you. We weren't told anything as kids took straight in.
  8. My DD was there yesterday. She's been very unhelpful remembering what they did though. We didn't get to speak to any staff, the kids were took off us at the door and then let out once they spotted parents cars. Should have been a 1pm finish but they were done by 12 so lots of kids hanging round by the time I picked my DD up. Apparently there was 29 kids yesterday a mix of yr 7 &8, no idea how many MDS awards they have to give. They did an hour ballet, free movement/jazz class to copacabana then musical theatre to MaryPoppins supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. My DD loved the experience, tense wait now for results.
  9. I've just ordered for my DD last week. Ordered a couple of leotards which are pretty much true to size, my DD is 10 (but tiny) and age 8-10 fits perfectly. The tights however are tiny, I ordered 12-14yrs and they have came up extremely small. They are also a bit pinker than her usual ones but lovely and soft, seem strong too. My DD has worn them a few times now and theyve washed fine. The leotards are fantastic though, even in the kids sizes they've came fully lined. My DD has chosen the next ones she wants. Delivery was really quick too.
  10. I've found the best foundation for my DD is the boots seventeen range, it doesn't seem to sit as heavy and seems to be for younger skin. I prefer to use chunky eye pencils, the NYX ones are brilliant. My DD dance school likes under 10s in blue and over 10s in brown. It does need to be heavier than we prefer just so you can see facial expression, luckily the older girls are amazing at make up so I leave it to them to do for me. The best mascara I've found is L'Oréal one, my DD cannot get away with false eye lashes and this seems to add lots of volume.
  11. Hi Armydancer. It was Denise Whiteman who passed on the JA feedback, not sure if it'll differ for finals. My daughter currently at the easter intensive so I know Denise is busy until Monday afternoon as she's the one in charge of the course.
  12. Armydancer. I had to chase up feedback for Elmhurst from my DD audition in January. When I emailed them I'd been told my DD was marked as feedback given even though they'd not spoken to me. I asked for it before tring funding audition and they gave it to me as we arrived home from the tring audition. They did give some useful advice but we could have worked on it if they'd given it sooner
  13. It's a course for the yr5 & yr6 JA of Elmhurst from across the country. It's ran by Elmhurst itself
  14. Fab thanks dancingshoes. I'll just tell her she's not allowed her phone. I thought that's how classes might work but I wasn't certain. She's got friends in yr5 so I'll warn her beforehand they'll likely be in different classes.
  15. Pleased it's not just my child that's a bottomless pit, there's no filling her. She's so excited counting down the days now. Her JA teacher spoke them about it on Saturday so it's all she's talking about at the moment. She'll be so pleased to meet up with friends she made at auditions. She swapped details with a couple of girls at tring and they've been messaging each other since then.
  16. Does anyone have any experience of the easter course at Elmhurst? My DD is attending it this weekend. Will the classes be a mix of yr5 & yr 6 children? Are they allowed to take mobile phones/I pads (important question from my DD is there WiFi?). Can they take snacks with them, my DD has a massive appetite despite being tiny and she's worried about the food.
  17. My DD helped choreograph her own solo for her audition in Jan. She found the music and set the basics then her dance teacher helped polish it. She loves it so much it's now been made longer as a competition solo. Made such a difference her helping create it and she's so proud of herself.
  18. Congratulations to those with yes' fantastic news ☺
  19. They do see a lot of kids so it surprising to see so many tiny girls. My DD is smallest in her year group at school.she quite enjoyed the auditions as she is quite self conscious about her height, it was great to see so many girls her size. The casting team do seem to prefer older girls as they still have to be mature enough to cope with the role. At first audition my DD was 8 and she said herself she didn't think she would have been able to manage it.
  20. They're massively strict. My DD was seen just before her 9th birthday and she was 3'9 , she got through first couple of rounds but they thought too young. They've kept in touch every 6 months or so to check on height. She was asked to be seen this month but since Christmas has grown so just over 4'3, I let the casting team know and they've said she's too tall now. It's a tough audition process too, casting team are lovely though.
  21. Thank you Sarahw. My DD has loved the experience. We originally only auditioned for tring for experience as my DD really only wanted to try for hammond and Elmhurst. She soon changed her mind after visiting the school though! I'm incredibly proud she got this far. She's got Hammond next month and also going to try for the local CAT scheme so she's absolutely fine. She'll definitely try again next year though.
  22. As expected my DD didn't get MDS award, I'm assuming all children are placed on the waiting list? The results were by post tutu girl
  23. I'll ask my DD tonight what some of the exercises are called, I don't think I could do a great job describing them. She uses a balance board though and a pull up bar at home to help her strength. We not encountered a growth spurt yet, my DD has barely grown in last few years.
