  1. Hurrah, all clear now (busy liking everyone)!
  2. Thanks for your various comments John. A quick update: try as I might I no longer get the error message, so this must have been some kind of temporary switchover glitch. But the Likes are still odd, in that I still can't seem to get more than one Like (lit up heart) going on any particular thread on my Ips.
  3. A few problems: i) I repeatedly get an error message when logging in (despite the log in seeming to be successful) - the error page asks for an email direct to administrators, so I sent one early this morning, but you ask for postings here, so I repeat. ii) Anonymity of logging in seems not to work (ditto) iii) I can't like any posts any more (the heart lights up but doesn't convert into a like) iv) And when I like a second post, the first lit up heart goes off. None of this happened until today. I should perhaps add that I am doing this on an IPad using not the fastest wifi connection.
  4. Not to be a know all - and of course you are making a slightly different point - but just for those new to ballet, Gloria is of course inspired by a book about the First World War, not the Second World War (Vera Brittain's Testament of Youth). of Youth
  5. I'm living back in a farming community at the moment. When the sun shines, they ask for rain; when it rains, they wish it was sunny. So in a sprit of self-awareness (Maoist self-criticism?) here is a thread from not that long ago:- A year can make a big difference in perception.
  6. Lauren Cuthbertson did Romeo & Juliet in emojis. So a friend who went last night had a go at Swan Lake (and tried to do it without using the swan symbol):- ???‍♂️?☄️????????‍♂️❤️️????????????‍♂️???????‍♂️??????‍♂️????????????????????????????????????????????‍♂️?????????????????????????????????????????
  7. Machiavelli "The Prince". CHAPTER XVII. Whether It Is Better To Be Loved Than Feared. Discuss, in relation to artistic directors of ballet companies...
  8. What is the point, indeed. Lizbie1 has the evidence (she wrote earlier on this thread: "By chance I saw a good number of decent tickets available maybe an hour after General Booking had opened - I think their release must have been accidentally delayed") I know this is not the first time this has happened (apart from my own experience the Forum has noted the problem in the past). My suggestion would be to write to the ROH, briefly but with as much supporting information as possible, and ask for an explanation (if it is interesting their answer could perhaps then be shared here!) This is the email address for the Box Office manager: roh.boxoffice@roh.org.uk However as the issue may not be human error (or whatever) in the box office but could be a technical problem with the website one should copy the Chief Technology Officer (in charge of all the IT): Joe.McFadden@roh.org.uk
  9. I raise you the Barbican: never mind what it's like to go there, just try doing an online order on the first morning of booking! Not getting through in the first place / false information online / after half an hour's work selecting a whole lot of tickets and putting them in a basket, that basket inexplicably emptied before one can pay so the selected tickets are lost / hopeless, inefficient and unhelpful follow up by so-called box office staff...Just a few of the problems with booking at the Barbican over the last three years.
  10. Many thanks lizbie - I don't get that choice (although it has accepted my promo code). I am stuck with a very slow internet connection so wonder if that might have something to do with the problem, I'll ask a friend to have a go for me!
  11. I just tried, put the code into the box - but the prices stay the same! I tried selecting a stalls seat but it firmly stayed full price until the very last moment, i.e. just before confirming you are buying, so I'm not going to click that for fear of paying full price. Anyone got any advice?!

  13. Just to say, there is a gala in Vienna on Sunday 29 October (scroll down for the artists):- https://www.weltstargala.at/en/ Nb this is at the Volkstheater, not the Vienna Opera (Staatsoper) where the ballet usually is.
  14. Just seen this (scroll down for the artists):- https://www.weltstargala.at/en/
  15. Just noticed this short article about the biography of Tatiana Leskova, with a link to an interview in The Stage: https://quartetbooks.wordpress.com/2017/07/04/one-of-the-last-survivors-from-a-gilded-age/
  16. He was ill. Happily, according to Twitter this week he has fully recovered and is in fantastic voice in Turandot.
  17. Just to say, last night saw Gregory Kunde give his first Otello at ROH. Some people will already have seen him at Covent Garden (Trovatore) but Otello is his part. I heard him do it on the car radio a couple of years ago and pulled off the road to sit in a lay by to listen till the end, having at the time had no idea who he was. Some tickets for his performances are still available.
  18. Selling this ticket for the sold out ENB show (originally bought here from Yakinodi) as I now have a hospital appointment that day. This is how Yakinodi described the ticket:- >>listed as Restricted View: Overhang. I don't find they restrict the view unless you want to see the uppermost part of the set. Saw this production from the same seats when it premiered and had no issue whatsoever. Thursday 21 September 2PM Matinee First Circle L2 £25 If interested, please PM/email. Geoff
  19. The leap - into the trenches, into eternity? - of the last soldier at the end of MacMillan's Gloria.
  20. Just back from today's dress rehearsal of Mozart's Mitridate. No comments of course but I think it fair to say that Graham Vick's highly stylised production, first seen in 1991, looks bright and fresh and classy, particularly when one compares with many other "modern" opera productions we have had since. So if you've never seen it, please consider going.
