  1. A hairdresser friend recommended Redken Anti-snap treatment for DD's hair, it's quite expensive (£15 to £18) but it lasts for ages
  2. Where you there this year FullContretemps? I thought this years demo was even better than last year, the ballet was beautiful and the contemporary superb (I am learning to appreciate contemporary as dd really likes it, even though she is still a bit too young for it). Dd has raved about Nathalie Leger, she loved her teaching and found her to be very inspiring. Dd rarely shows me much dancing at home but has demonstrated lots of bar work since she got back as Nathalie has praised her about a specific exercise, it is lovely to see the effect a kind word or two has on an 11 year old. She wants to dance even more than normal (praise from her mum does not have the same effect).
  3. Dd attended the York dance assembly summer school and had a marvellous week. The performance at the end of the week was lovely, dd enjoyed both the classes and the social side of the week. I think I need to change my username as she no-longer appears to by the shy girl she once was.
  4. Thank you for replying. Dd tried her friends track pants on age 9-11 they are too short in the leg but I think the next size will be far too big on the waist. So I will be doing the same as twiggy.
  5. I am shopping for uniform ready for dd to start in September. I notice on the website that that the associates track pants and jacket are jogging suit material but the cat and open class suit is microfibre. Do we stick to the correct suit for the type of class or can I go for the microfibre one? I do prefer the microfibre fabric ?
  6. I don't know if I'm allowed to post this, but thought someone could use the discount, SALE30 for 30% discount at theatremusicshop.com.
  7. I have previously used theatremusicshop.com, I have not used it for ballet, as teacher has always supplied ballet music but they do have a ballet section on the website.
  8. I'm glad this thread was started, I have made my donation. I don't know how I missed the sticky previously. I hope you manage to reach your target.
  9. Wow!!! brag away, that is awesome
  10. Ps: the chicken wings are her shoulder blades, DD very lean and bendy and if she's not careful shoulder blades stick right out.
  11. My DD is another one with this issue, I noticed it a few years ago and mentioned it to old teacher who hadn't noticed. It became an issue noted on festival adjudication and one or two exams, still no correction from teacher. Dd started a new school last December and within 6 months rarely does it now, new teacher has mentioned that's she has corrected the back arching and the swayback legs and she is about to tackle the chicken wings. (All said in the nicest way)
  12. Well done to your DD Ballet4life xx
  13. Just to add, we applied on the last day of the deadline (in fact believe it was actually received a day late due to the post) so I am not convinced that it is done in order of receipt of application. We received the email on the 4th.
  14. My DD only just getting serious about dance so it was our first time applying (at the suggestion of DD's new dance teacher) so she wasn't really expecting to get a place, let alone funding. I am new to all this but I believe that applications for the SS are done by photo/application form, there are about 12 bursaries and auditions were held in York a few weeks ago and London over the bank holiday weekend. We were contacted yesterday by email (unfortunately with a no) so perhaps the emails were sent out to the auditions candidates first. I am sure they will be in touch soon, fingers crossed that they sent out the no's first and they are saving the Yes's for today. DD's dance teacher suggested OPES as another SS option, its might be worth a look on their website if you haven't already considered it. Good luck
  15. On the funding audition thread (YBSS Funding audition) there is discussion about SS places, we got a no email yesterday. I hope you get some good news.
  16. Yes there is a waiting list, I didn't mention it to DD, as didn't want to get her hopes up, it would be a nice surprise if a place came up. Well done to all the yes's
  17. Just had the email, it was a no for DD. She is now considering other options. Good luck to anyone else who applied.
  18. I saw a lovely frame with pointe shoes (I think signed by ex-students) displayed in a circle. It was on the wall at Skelton Hooper (local dance studio) im not 100% sure but it might be in the backdrop of Vanessa Hoopers BBC interview, the TV clip was discussed on this forum a while back. I don't know how to post the thread but will check the title for you to search
  19. That's fantastic, well done to your DD xx
  20. Great news Alexa, well done to your dd xx
  21. Thank you and well done to your ds. I have my days a little confused it was actually this week we received the email, Tuesday, I think we weren't expecting to hear until the 10th either.
  22. Dd had great news last week, she has been offered an inter foundation associate place at northern ballet in Leeds. Has anybody else had any news yet ??
  23. Oops, I'm sorry if I have broken rules, not my intention as I'm sure it wasn't Vonrothbarts. Might I ask a moderator to remove my post if it is deemed inappropriate.
  24. We are very lucky in this area to have some fabulous ballet schools. Dd did a few classes with Miss Vanessa when we decided to move from first dance school, dd enjoyed the classes and there are some very talented students. DanceGirlsDad, its a shame you DD missed out, I saw on fb a few students were expecting to be on TV but didn't make through the edit. I'm sure there will be other opportunities. I remember when the filming took place, the kids were so excited.
