  1. Bought my ticket for Thursday matinee yesterday and very much looking forward to this performance. Be interested to read reports from forum members. Hope it’s a great opening night.
  2. Did anybody stop to admire the pre-raphaelite paintings? Worth the trip to see those.
  3. Jamesrhblack- I agree with your comments re Hayward and Nagdhi -I felt the same at the matinée. But the feeling of both pieces was unaffected.
  4. Well that cheered me. Some new pieces & dancers, a live orchestra. Agree stage was too small and where we sat (balcony) that meant we couldn’t see the dancers easily when they moved front. Beautiful theatre though and what a lovely audience - no mobiles, talking etc. I still don’t agree with bringing glasses into the auditorium. My mother, who did see Nureyev with Fonteyn, thoroughly enjoyed the whole show. I was moved by the Bayadere piece and the Don Juan and found the bravura pieces thrilling. Hope that Mair was ok after that slip - she finished like a true professional.
  5. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Fiona. I was there yesterday too and very close to the stage which made it even more exciting. I thought it was clever and liked the production very much. No sound glitches that I noticed. All the dancers were terrific, fully committed. All received well deserved applause. I was with a companion who knew the story but nothing specific about the cast (not a ballet regular) and she was blown away by the show and came away full of enthusiasm.
  6. Bargain book finds this week- A Different Drummer by Jann Parry and the lovely book of photos of Darcey Bussell - all for £5!
  7. Terrible news- I have learnt so much from this channel - music, art, dance, science. One of the few that does not patronise the audience.
  8. I agree with you JNC. However, to lose Bayadere from the rep would be a tragedy, especially as who knows when/if we will be able to see performances of Russian companies again, either here or in Russia.
  9. Great news - congratulations to both dancers - well deserved.
  10. Was it a coincidence this was shown on May 18 - Ms Osipova’s birthday?
  11. Just caught a couple of glimpses of Hirano - was he a mentor?
  12. The duet with the ballerina and street dancer was good - I was impressed with the young man
  13. Just watched the ballerina from Elmhurst- very entertaining
  14. I can report house martins and swallows have arrived on the South coast.
  15. What a super evening- last minute decision to attend but so glad I did. Music, dancers, costumes, productions all excellent. Thanks to Forum posts I went for a high up view to better see the patterns. First time for me to see Scenes and wow- and yes to Sleeping Beauty homage. Month - a perfect gem. So much happening but such clarity to this piece. Rhapsody - yes it was! Terrific piece to close on. Everyone around me in the Amphi was so thrilled with this triple bill. More please. Deserves a longer run.
  16. Great pictures Quintus - lucky you. Today I saw a bearded tit - after visiting my local site for decades and a marsh harrier
  17. Ah such a shame Pat. I missed Osipova & Hallberg in 2020 by one day if I recall correctly. It is disappointing.
