  1. Swanprincess, dd just taken AS Dance exam and didn't know there was such a thing as a reading list!!! I know results will tell but I wouldn't rush into buying any books (unless you would be interested in reading them anyway) just yet
  2. I've found an email advising of the change - it came from Nicola Denton on 9 April. I think the timetable changed for us last term as group 5&6 were combined which is where I thought every last session changed! Thanks everyone for your help.
  3. And parents can watch??? Ladt question ...promise!!
  4. Thank you Taxi4ballet - last term they issued a revised timetable - I'm guessing it's normal time this term as we haven't heard different?
  5. Can anyone please confirm if this Sunday is the last CBA for the term? I have tried to email but no reply. Nothing to do with assessments sorry but thought this would be the right people to answer the question!!
  6. Thank you all for your advice. I am coming to terms that being a bit grubby is part of a tutus history! I would hate to spoil it as it does look lovely. I will zip it back into the tutu bag, wait for a sunny day (if there is such a thing!) and hang it on the line for an hour.
  7. No unfortunately it's one piece ....
  8. Apologies for resurrecting an old thread but I'm looking for advice on freshening up a tutu. On stage it looks like new - the skirt is perfect and I really don't want to touch it but the bodice is showing signs of how much hard work goes into a ballet! The bodice is fitted, made of dupion, lined with cotton - Dare I dip it in the sink and dry on the washing line upside down hoping the net doesn't get wet? Don't know if I should just leave it be .......
  9. Hi Lilac, daughter in from class now so can ask her! Tring CBA definitely has girls in Upper 6th in group 6.
  10. Hi Lilac, my daughter is 16 (year 11) - her letter came offering a place for next year so it must go to 18.
  11. I arranged an hours private lesson through RAD. It was exceptionally well worth the money; the teacher was lovely - giving advice, direction and correction which can be missed in a class setting. My daughter came out beaming saying it was the best lesson she had ever had and had learnt so much from it. However, I would say it was a one off treat and used primarily leading up to her auditions.
  12. Ditto from me too! Coming from a non vocational background, this friendly forum has a wealth of knowledge regarding the ballet world that is worth its weight in gold - thank you to everyone for seeing us "newbies" through the audition process
  13. Oh bless. The only thing I can say is it may not even be "her" - I have seen adjudicators who appear to take an instant dislike to a style of choreography and no matter how well it is danced the style is overlooked. We have experienced it for "more traditional" choreography - where the adjudicator has commented the entire section needs brininging up to date .... But there is nothing the dancers can do about what they are given Hope she has enjoyed the modern section and you have enjoyed watching
  14. We have a musicals CD in the car and listened (sang along!) to it on the way to way to auditions to calm the nerves. On random selection, "I am what I am" played EVERYTIME we pulled into the car parks ..... Spooky but true .... Whilst it has a very different sentiment, It became "our song" and my daughters outlook to her audition Have fun compiling the playlist Mel!
  15. We attended a meeting at DD school for "mainstream" courses applied for by UKAS. The deadline they gave was 30th may for the cleared funds to be in place when required. I understood you could apply after this date but they could not guarantee when it would be paid. We have just received an email for stage 1 of the application process; Having a funding application request for DD they now require financial information from us - this stage has taken 3 weeks (with Easter in the middle).
  16. Yes and 100% fees (£9k if a UK (excluding Scottish) student) are covered through student financing. If Scottish the fees are considerably less, if overseas considerably more .....
  17. Cost of the audition process in itself ...... and that's before you get there!!! Anything from £25-45 per application, medical reports, photos, travel and hotels for auditions ...... Plus the coffee whilst waiting around during auditions - I now have a loyalty card for every well known coffee outlet!
  18. Or Choreography Swanprincess - DD is envious of how creative you are!
  19. Swanprincess, I truly believe EVERYONE on the forum is wishing you well for the coming 12 months. You have a timescale to focus on and I know you have the determination to do everything in your power to fulfil your dream. I wish you all the very best of luck and can't wait to hear all about it. Take care of yourself and "keep dancing!" X
  20. At the first audition they stated students could audition for direct entry into year 2 or 3 if they were older than 16 .......
  21. I wanted to click "like" more than once!!!!
  22. Katymac, at a recent Yr11 parents evening one of my daughters teachers opened the consultation with "I hear your daughter is leaving home to study ballet. I wish her every success but think, as parents, you are mad ...." Not a lot we could respond other than we, as her parents, have done all the soul searching and continue to worry every minute of every day what the future will bring but whatever that may be we will support her every step and would never stop her trying. I have loved reading your posts and riding the roller coaster with you and your daughter and look forward to hearing all about the next step - whichever she chooses.
  23. Oh no! I hope she is feeling much better very soon. The world seems a very small place when things like this happen. Take care x
  24. Thank you! A step closer ..... fingers crossed! Wish I was going to moveit this year .... Hope you had a good day!
  25. Ooh Sheila - my dd will love you forever! Bought a pair in USA - since then we have tried to but replacements at every opportunity to include arranging for russian pointe to send a number of pairs to grandparents hotels whilst they were on holiday - dread to think what customs would have said when 2 60+ went through with 2 pairs of pointe shoes each!!! She has worn grishkos (ok) and Bloch (didn't like at all) but has now had Russians for last 3 years. The model number is AD (width 4 vamp 2 FM shank) if that tells you what sort of foot she has!!!????? The only thing I can add is they look beautiful on stage and are a lovely colour - probably not the deciding factor when buying though!! She is starting full-time training in sept and was going to have to switch brands as we couldn't get them in any volume. I will watch this thread with interest
