  1. We're there 12th - will also need to book hotel or get up at 4am!!!! Received an email today with details. Good luck to you and yours
  2. Could you cook a jacket potato, keep it wrapped in foil then cut it when needed - she probably wouldn't want it straight from the oven temperature. Serve with grated cheese or one of the sandwich fillers?
  3. I have 2 DD who tap - one prefers split sole (Capezio) and the other full sole (Bloch). Both are oxford style with teletone toe and heel taps. Thankfully our dance teacher is happy for the girls to choose which they prefer and are comfortable dancing in. Shop around on line as they differ in price considerably.
  4. We struggled too, there appears to be a scroll bar I'm the centre ....
  5. Purely practical on auditons.... ... Soft blocks or canvas pumps for auditions?!! Advice please haven't had any experience with soft blocks but just something DD mentioned following summer school ..... .... Solos .... Pre warned is pre armed (!) can anyone say if any schools definitely require a solo for first round auditions ? I'm sure my list will grow and these 2 might be the least of my worries in a couple of weeks time!!! Thank you everyone for your patience with "audition newbies" .
  6. This is going to be so helpful - thank you for putting us on the righ track!! Know what my bedtime reading is now!
  7. Hi, swanprincess, "dd" says you will probably know this as box-splits?!!!
  8. Just ballet - it was ordered through you ... I would'nt go anywhere else! dtadmin, it's 6th form - never experienced this before so this forum is invaluable and left up on my desktop 24/7!!
  9. Dtadmin, we are waiting on the post for a degas Leo for auditions too! My daughter has one already and it's much admired everywhere she goes. She said it makes her feel special ... The only problem was she dared to grow!!!
  10. JulieW, would you like to be a surrogate mother for my dd? I'll have her back when it's all over!!
  11. Ooh no! It's becoming very real too soon. Can I press pause for a couple of months so I can prepare myself -- dd would be off today given half a chance though!! Deep Breath ..... count to 10 .....
  12. And me swanprincess - lovely photo - you look so different with your hair down! Good luck!
  13. Yesterday's sharing of work was superb. How they learnt so much in such a short time was incredible. My daughter said this year was better than last .... If that's possible! Thanks go to ALL the staff of Elmhurst and Birmingham Ballet who gave everyone such a fantastic week. Well done to all who performed yesterday - I wanted to watch it again!
  14. No .... C, Lildancer96 !!! They appeared to be split in calendar years - 'A' being the eldest group to 'F' the youngest - all girls (there were 2 groups of 15 year olds) plus groups G & H for boys.
  15. I received a text to ask if she had to come home ...... And that was only after the first lesson this morning!!!! They truly have a great time and are too busy (or asleep!) to even think about anything else.
  16. We'll be there'd too! DD can't wait to go again. They will all have a fantastic week
  17. My daughter sent an application, sent an e-mail and a voice message - no response from summer school
  18. Pointytoes - in the evening after a shower, she popped on some shorts and t-shirt as the accom block was quite hot. Last year they had a slumber party (pj's) on the first night so they got to meet everyone informally. There was also a "disco" later in the week which was relaxed clothes (not dressy!) and they watched a BRB workshop in the school theatre one evening so wore non-dance clothes. It was all casual clothes. Please feel free to ask any more questions as my daughter is happy to help - she is going again this year and can't wait!
  19. Pointytoes, my daughter went last year and got caught out not taking jazz pants - I guess I should have thought!!! I asked her if there was anything else not on the list that she thought was essential ...... SWEETS! She is not a sweet eater but in the evening she sat in the common room watching DVD's etc - shared sweets were a much needed sugar treat after a hard day!!!! They needed a "tracksuit" to get from the accom block to the studios and to pop on at meal times. She wore cropped leggings and a t-shirt as we did have a bit of a summer last year!
  20. Oh - I missed this thread so posted under Alice first - sorry !!! Saw this last evening - it was fantastic and so different to their usual performances. I came out wanting to watch it again! The audience was very young compared to normal!!
  21. I saw Ballet Theatre UK "Breakin Pointe" last evening - a contrast from their usual performances but fantastic all the same - would like to have watched it again!
  22. My daughter finished her classes in March this year. I asked if they would mail drop me details for the next course but was advised to keep looking at the website.
  23. Life will never be the same! But none of us would wish for it any other way ...... Well ..... Most of the time!
  24. Thank you! Yes, Funding is the main factor for my choice. If money was no object I would LOVE to go to vocational school but my Dad said apparently we dont have a money tree at the bottom of the garden - if only - ha!ha!!!!
  25. Hi, I am researching colleges for 2014 entry studying Classical/Modern Ballet. I will be 16 years old and will have just taken my GCSE's. I think I am looking for a BA(Hons) course although I really don't know what other options I have besides vocational colleges. I have looked at courses at Central, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Rambert and Conservatore of Dance & Drama. Am I missing any? Any advice would be great please!! Thank you so much
