  1. Yes, but the comparison was between Soares/Nunez and Muntagirov/Takada - there's a much more noticeable size difference with the latter two than with the former.
  2. That, at least, should be less demanding on the male dancers in the company ...
  3. And welcome from me too, Balletfanp! Yes, but do bear in mind the relative sizes of the dancers . I don't actually think Soares is quite tall enough to be partnering his wife in the Classical rep, although I suppose that may be less important for Don Q than in other ballets.
  4. Sounds like last week's performance, then. Trouble is, it's a bit of a vicious circle, isn't it? The theatregoers may need a more rousing production/performance to make them more responsive ...
  5. And now it doesn't, again. No idea what may have changed - although I don't think it's my browser.
  6. More on *editing* your own posts here: http://www.balletcoforum.com/index.php?/topic/3002-editing-postings/ I think there is probably a "Delete" button which appears at the bottom of your post for the first 30 minutes, too, but have no way of testing this.
  7. Dancing with Golding, I take it? Oh yes, just read the linked piece. That'll be good: she may not know the production, but she'll at least be familiar with her Basilio, which will count for a lot. I'm almost sorry I exchanged my ticket, except that I seem to be going down with a bit of a cold, so might not have made it anyway.
  8. Unfortunately, Cuthbertson was having an off night when that live broadcast was made (the RB didn't issue it on DVD, did they?). I guess such things do happen occasionally: it's just unfortunate that it was so public. I was rather surprised when I saw that Sky were being allowed to show it, though.
  9. Volunteers - at a cinema? It's not another Picturehouse intent on trying to avoid paying a living wage, is it?
  10. I understand Morera has had some injury problems, although whether that affected the decision as to what to cast her in in Don Q I don't know.
  11. I think you've unwittingly hit the nail on the head there, Joan. If Marianela and Thiago were in South America (on holiday?), it would presumably have been difficult for management to contact them and see if they were happy to do a short-notice replacement until they got back. I'd guess that, along with Christmas getting in the way, is the reason for the short notice.

As, unfortunately (and I think I've moaned about this before), is the increasing nasty habit of quoting people's Twitter feeds as quotes rather than actually going and getting a proper one. You can usually tell, because there will be the odd word missed out, and so on.
  13. It did look unusually shiny just where she skidded, certainly.
  14. A couple of items from today's Links page to refresh your memory, should you need it: http://www.thestage.co.uk/opinion/2014/12/2014-in-review-dance/ http://londondance.com/articles/features/looking-back-on-2015-lise-smith/
  15. Thanks, Vanartus. My guess is it'll be a while yet before they announce the replacement: from what's on the website, it looks to me as though they're trying to give Golding a chance of dancing and need to find someone he can partner. But I've seen all the supporting cast already, so will probably give it a miss.
  16. The Hampson/Scarfe production did, but it was children disguised as presents - I suspect a bit constrained by the designs, as the rest of the production seemed to be.
  17. So had I - until somebody reminded me of it. Grrrrr I always thought that most of the British choreographers left it out because it's so uninspiring. Certainly I've never seen anyone do anything I'd regard as "inspired" to it.
  18. Yes, but I didn't think he'd ever been announced in the Coliseum casting, hence my query. Now, that I didn't know. I don't remember seeing it announced.
  19. "Departures"??? Agree about Cao: I was thinking she must still be on maternity leave, so little has she been in evidence in the casting recently. (Or hang on, am I a year out?)
  20. This is disappointing, particularly if anyone wanted to see Golding. I've already got a ticket for Nunez/Soares (a good one by my standards, courtesy of Get Into London Theatre - so presume I won't be able to return that one), so really don't need to see them twice.
  21. And, of course, it relies on people who find the articles actually bothering to put the links in that one thread. Otherwise, it doesn't work.
  22. Slightly belatedly, a tribute on the ROH website: http://www.roh.org.uk/news/derek-rencher-a-look-back-at-his-life-with-the-royal-ballet
