  1. I've moved a number of reactions to the RB Giselle broadcast into the Giselle discussion thread in order to keep this thread tidy.
  2. Yes: firstly, the dancers wouldn't be wanting to wait around a whole act just for a curtain call, and secondly some of the women may well be dancing as Wilis in the second act anyway.
  3. Well, I thought we should have a matching thread to the ballet one: after all, clearly the RO season is *far* more important, which is why the Evening Standard dedicated its entire article to it rather than the ballet. The announcement is here: http://www.roh.org.uk/news/opera-and-music-201617
  4. That appears to be an incredibly short run of Mayerlings - barely a couple of weeks. I hope there aren't too many performances shoved close together, because it could become a complete nightmare if one (or worse still, more than one) of the Rudolfs were to get injured.
  5. It would take an unconscionably long time and great amount of effort to split this thread in two, capybara, so no. However, I have edited BBB's original post to put the link to the season announcement.
  6. Well, for the last few years I've been saying now Mukhamedov's retired from dancing can we have it put back to what it was, please? Ed Watson was marvellous last time around in the severely truncated role of the Husband, and I've always wanted to see him do it properly. OTH, I'm afraid it's years too late for the Anastasias I wanted to see (although if Galeazzi were to guest in that as well it would be something) Janet, I can't believe you're seriously ignoring Jonathan Goddard!
  7. Well, after all, it's only a dalliance with some peasant girl. It's not as if this Giselle is ever going to stand in the way of her marrying him, so why worry? I suppose.
  8. Certainly better than nothing - thank you. I'd guess that those "woulds" in the 6th paragraph might be a form of reported speech rather than a real conditional tense. The reasoning seemingly given would make some sort of "sense" too, I suppose - if you can call it that. It's certainly close to the conclusions I'd drawn because I couldn't come up with any other sort of viable alternative.
  9. It's a big screen, lc - I don't think Stratford can have any small screens, because all the ballets are always shown in screen 2. Nice big screen, seats are comfy though I'd prefer a bit more legroom. The screens are up a flight of stairs, but there must be a lift somewhere. Nice bar does coffee, cakes and so on for you to while away the 25-minute interval - ice creams etc. downstairs. I've never been there for an evening performance, but I assume there's still food available. An easy walk back to the station afterwards. Oh, and the wifi works, which is more than I can say for the last Picturehouse I visited! I don't know why it's always so empty, but it tends to be a useful fallback when places closer to home are full up (as my local is). May see you there, if I feel like making a trip of it, although I think I'll probably be staying somewhere rather closer to home. Let me know if you need any further information. The repeats for this programme do seem to be coming on at some weird times: it would normally be the Sunday following, but there's a Bolshoi screening then, so that may be what's caused the odd timing. Actually, I didn't even know Stratford took the repeat as well - I really can't see why ...
  10. Yep, sounds not uncommon. One of the reasons I liked South London is that there *are* all these alternative routes when need be - you should see some of the routes I used to take home from work when there was a major signalling problem or something affecting my usual routes!
  11. Eek! I'd been blithely assuming I could pick up tickets nearer the time once the casting had been announced It's great that it's sold this well: I had my doubts.
  12. In her defence, I think she was a rather last-minute replacement for an injured Lauren Cuthbertson, at a time when pretty much all other viable candidates were involved in other parts of the triple bill.
  13. I was assuming that it would have to deviate quite significantly from the original - as is usual with his productions. And there's no obligation for him to keep it as ballet, of course. I do however assume that someone else other than Ms Shaw will be dancing the lead
  14. Surely they won't revive it just for one run in Southampton? (Please, Network Rail, no major engineering works this time?)
  15. Well, clearly it must mean that the ankles stick out ahead of the rest of the leg, mustn't it?
  16. She doesn't dance with other companies, so you won't have any joy there. She's scheduled to be dancing in the pas de six in the live Giselle broadcast on Wednesday. Apart from that, she isn't often cast highly enough to feature in advance casting information. Yet.
  17. Maybe, but didn't I see Placido Domingo's name among those appearing?
  18. No: it's something to do with the length of rest they have to have before they can start working again, which intrudes too much into work on Mondays, I think. I'm sure someone else will be able to give a more accurate explanation.
  19. There are probably some thoughts in this thread: http://www.balletcoforum.com/index.php?/topic/2752-why-did-darcey-bussell-become-so-famous/?hl=bussell
  20. She's never danced Lise, but I saw her Juliet debut. I think it was rather overshadowed by Sarah Wildor's that afternoon, according to people who'd seen both. I think I've only seen her dance it twice.
  21. Very little, I'm afraid. I suppose with the other RBS performances not being in-house this year it might be felt that there was less need, but it's not that long ago that Bolshoi(Kirov) and RBS booking were on a different day. I was also a bit surprised to see that the Hochhauser mailing list booking was phone only, which turned out to make things very longwinded - it would have been so much easier just to be able to click around on the website and find whatever, as DQF said.
