  1. Wonderful new Joemill, huge congratulations ???? you will get everything sorted I am sure xx
  2. Hello, can any of you lovely people who did this course at the above venue last yr advise how easy it is to get to from the train station? Debating whether to drive or take train, auto route suggests 2 hr 40 min drive verses 1 hrs 15 mins on train, if it is quite straightforward tempted to do train..... thank you
  3. Normal end of year reports are fine, in the 'olden days' of paper forms, we used to attach a passport photo, I am just going to crop and attach a head shot of my dd from a ordinary photo, not doing anything more formal than that. It is just for their records. Have a wonderful journey, my dd further up the associate chain now and she has loved every minute. Would offer to pass on our JA skirts but my dd's wouldn't let me
  4. wonderful news SP, I think everyone on the forum will be raising a glass for you later! Congratulations xx
  5. An update, DD popped into Freed on Saturday, fantastic customer service, checked her pointe shoes and seemed to agree that they had gone soft too quickly and gave her brand new replacement pair foc, same shoe but from different maker so we will see how she gets on with that. We are going to try all the tips mentioned above, and hopefully they will last longer this time. Jet glue has been recommended to her rather than shellac but can't find any stockist so that is my next mission! Thanks for your advice everyone
  6. How wonderful Meggy13, huge congratulations xx
  7. Thanks legseleven, I think it may have been Bloch serenade with hard shank she was wearing before, so it could hopefully also be a case of getting used to a different shoe. Fingers crossed we at least get to Half term then we will review the situation!! Thanks everyone xx
  8. Thank you ladies, yes I think it was a floor polish she recommended now that you mention it! I have actually emailed the shop to ask for advise and to see if my DD can pop in and discuss it with them. They did mention special orders when we were in but suggested she start off with a 'stock pair' first. I'll see what they suggest, my elder DD loves her Freeds but they last a few weeks not a few days!! That's a pretty poor show from Bloch Kat09, wonder if they read ballet co!!
  9. Well we decided to boycott Bloch and dd got her first pair of Freeds on Saturday. Fantastic service, lots of explanation about the shoe and its fit, we left very happy and pleased with ourselves...... then last night DD announced after 2 hrs of wear, she is worried they are getting soft - she says they still feel hard when she is on flat but when she goes onto to pointe they feel soft. Noooooo!! Surely this can't be so?? My other DD has said it may just be she has to get used to a Freed shoe after wearing Bloch, I know nothing about pointe shoes so can't really comment....her teacher has suggested she harden them with some type of wood glue but she can't remember the name, does anyone have any suggestions of a 'wood hardener'? Feel really quite fed up as I certainly cannot afford to buy shoes every week so it looks like back to Bloch we go!
  10. Woohoo!! that is fantastic news to share, not in the least bragging, shout it from the rooftops lovely girl, you deserve it! Have an amazing time and do tell us all about it
  11. Perhaps we should write in, I rarely pay £60 for my own shoes and if I did I'd want them to last longer than a few weeks! Sheila, I can see a day trip to Southend on sea on the cards! ????
  12. Kat09, I feel your pain, my dd needs new pointe shoes and I argued point blank with her (pardon the pun!) that I have never paid almost £60 for them before, even with discount it is an unreasonable amount but unfortunately it seems to be true, am taking the hit this time but going to start looking elsewhere if her school will allow. Her big sis wears freed and gets longevity out of them at moment at approx £40 ish per pair but as she is due to start upper school in Sept, i'm beginning to worry about how long they will last. It is a nightmare of a hidden cost.
  13. A few years ago, I took my elder dd's photos in village hall, when I printed them, in some shots her feet were cut off and in others her hands...had no time to re do them so just stapled one of each together so they could at least see her whole body, posted the application off and told myself that was a waste of £20....she got offered a place!! Her one and only time and believe it or not we then turned it down as she was one of those lucky ones to be chosen to dance with the Bolshoi Ballet!!
  14. She looks absolutely beautiful in your profile picture...reassure her by the time she is 16 and trying for vocational school, everyone will have caught up! It is scary for girls tho as you just have no idea how puberty will change their bodies and it is the one thing they cannot control and we as mums can't fix!! Hope she feels better soon xx
  15. I loved it, I am not a huge contemporary fan, only because I am a dance novice and don't understand it, but I was blown away by the talent and performance of these young dancers, particularly given the recent bad press uk training has been given. If I was a parent of a dc about to enter any of these schools in Sept, I'd ignore the negatives and be proud and happy. I also particularly enjoyed Connor and think it is another shining example of more than one road to Rome, I am sure he will have a successful dance career ahead. Roll on next week!
  16. Ah, I'm speaking for London only, no skirts required - that was JA's nightmare! Nor leather shoes, we had canvas split soles,in our experience, I think there is an element of teacher preference so don't panic too much and change your dd's shoes until after first lesson as teacher will tell you what they prefer. Xx
  17. Oops, forget to say, its navy!
  18. Hi bq, you will get an info pack in summer term which has order forms/details. The Leo is from a certain supplier as it has Royal Ballet School printed on it, pink tights, flats and pointe shoes are essential, optional is fleece and joggers which are purchased through another dance shop based in Peterborough but can be ordered over the phone. Blue waist belt is also essential but think that comes with the Leo. Sizing is bit funny so if you need any help when you get the forms, send me a pm! We ended up ordering a few and sending back the ones which didn't fit, delivery is very quick so don't panic about nor having in time. Hope that helps xx
  19. Best wishes Regattah, how scary for you all and Bravo to your dd for still managing the audition. I hope you get lots of positive good news this week and that the procedure goes well today xx
  20. Congratulations, that's great news, we've not heard yet!!!! Aaagh, hopefully tomorrow!!
  21. I'd imagine so and hope its soon as DD asks me everyday!
  22. Hello, I can only speak for the London centre where there are 2 MA classes - MA1 is yrs 7 & 8 and MA2 is yrs 8 & 9. The number of spaces available will be dependant upon how many year 9s there are, as they leave/move onto SAs at the end of MA2. . There may also be extra spaces if any of the yr7/8's are assessed out or choose to leave and sadly, this does happen. The available spaces will be over both classes/yr's, I don't know if they allocate 'x' number of spaces for each yr group so can't really help with numbers other than DD advises there are 12 yr9 associates in her class. So potentially 12 spaces. DD did get her MA place after WL finals but there were others in her class who had not been finalists....hope that helps, best of luck, my DD has loved her time as an associate and we are now waiting on the SA letter so I feel your pain!!
  23. thank you rk, it is, I shall look into that!!
  24. I'd love to go on a course to learn about the mysterious, illusive and perplexing 'Pointe Shoe', I'd love to know more about the fitting of them as whenever I go with my dd's we can be there for hours and when the assistants start oohing and aaahing that this is the perfect shoe, I can hardly tell the difference from the previous half dozen we have rejected!!
