  1. It will be a group of (I'd guess) a dozen or so dancers rather than the whole company, so they couldn't do much more than excerpts.
  2. 'tba' now confirmed as Lendorf - and on one of the nights I'm going - I really like the Lo Sardo/Lendorf pairing!
  3. Eva Kistrup got to talk to Hubbe last week and he reveals a bit more about his new production: http://danceviewtimes.typepad.com/eva_kistrup/2014/10/out-of-the-woods.html#more There are to be 3 casts which appear to be Susanne Grinder/Ulrik Birkkjaer, Amy Watson/Gregory Dean, and Alexandra Lo Sardo/tba (Lendorf, or one of the younger men?)
  4. It now looks as if the ~Etudes dancers will be J'aime Crandall, Alban Lendorf and Jon Axel Fransson
  5. The Royal Danish Ballet's insight evening about their next programme, a double bill of La Sylphide and Etudes, will be livestreamed on Tuesday, 7th October, starting at 20.00 Danish time - 19.00 in London and 14.00 in NY (I think). Nikolai Hubbe will talk about his already controversial new production of La Sylphide and Thomas Lund will introduce the Etudes section. From the dancers listed, I'd guess that Susanne Grinder and Ulrik Birkkjaer will do Sylphide and Holly Dorger and Marcin Kupinski will do Etudes. It lasts about an hour and some of it will probably be in English. Details here: http://kglteater.dk/det-sker/forestillinger/sason-2014-2015/ballet/ballettens-varksted---sylfiden
  6. It does seem a lot to pay for tea but it is actually quite a bit less than the top hotels - Savoy, Ritz etc - charge.
  7. I thought it was a nice cheerful evening, lifted into something more by Lendorf - unlike many I didn't think Swanilda shows Rojo at her best. Senri Kou was charming - very 'dancey' - as Dawn.
  8. No, the Queen saw it on the 17th but that wasn't the first night - so it's Wikipedia that's wrong, not the others.
  9. Thank you for this lead, Melody - I just checked the Queen's diaries and she saw the Pas de Quatre on July 17th. Already she refers to it as 'the famous' Pas de Quatre but was not totally bowled over: "It was long & their exertions were immense, — the dancing being quite beautiful. Taglioni danced wonderfully & with such grace, but she is too old now to give real pleasure, though still wonderfully active. Carlotta Grisi certainly "emportait la victoire", & is charming." Extraordinay to think that the evening started with Cosi fan Tutte, which she also thought too long! If you're in the UK and want to see the original, it's at: http://www.queenvictoriasjournals.org/search/displayItemFromId.do?FormatType=fulltextimgsrc&QueryType=articles&&filterSequence=0&PageNumber=1&ItemID=qvj04653&volumeType=PSBEA#transcript What an amazing resource!
  10. French television has a complete recording of the current POB Balanchine/Millepied programme online - available for the next 6 months. It's at http://culturebox.francetvinfo.fr/live/danse/le-palais-de-cristal-par-georges-balanchine-157321 (Thanks to balletalert for the link!)
  11. Thank you all so much for these very kind messages. These years have been a wonderful (and completely unexpected) experience for me and I'm so grateful to Bruce for building and maintaining the sites which give the rest of us so much enjoyment. Although I've written my last formal review I will still be seeing as much ballet as I can both here and in Copenhagen and will report back on these pages! Thank you again for your good wishes Jane
  12. Six performances, and they list the 4 roles in a different order for every single one!
  13. They did a triple bill at Sadler's Wells a few years ago, didn't they? Including A Simple Man
  14. Last time round (2008 I think) Sylvia Jimenez and Iain MacKay danced these roles and so far as I remember they didn't actually have a huge amount to do. Nice to see the dancers get proper billing though.
  15. Jenna Roberts and Joseph Caley are listed as the principal dancers in Glyndebourne's Eugene Onegin this summer - choreography is by Ron Howell.
  16. I suspect there's already a thread about this television series about the Dutch National Ballet but I can't immediately find it - sorry if so. The latest episode is about their preparations for Ashton's Dream and includes Matthew Golding rehearsing for Oberon - though in the end he gets injured and can't dance the opening night. It's at http://avro.nl/bloedzweetenblaren/player/20140503_Aflevering_7/
  17. Next season's programme was announced today. Main stage performances: The Lady of the Camellias (Neumeier) Sept 14 - Oct 31 (14 performances) 3 casts announced (Grinder/Lendorf, Bojesen/Birkkjær, Praetorius/Kaas) La Sylphide/Etudes Oct 25 - Feb 27 (9 performances) A new production of La Sylphide by Hubbe, using a simpler decor Come Fly Away (Twyla Tharp) Nov 8 - 29 (8 performances) A Folk Tale Dec 6 - 21 (15 performances) Swan Lake Mar 13 - May 1 (17 performances) A new production by Hubbe and Silja Schandorff, replacing the Peter Martins version ___________________ Also Dans2Go, the children's ballet Kom Bamse, and various productions on the smaller stages: all details now online at http://kglteater.dk/det-sker/ballet __________________________ There are 8 new dancers in the corps de ballet: Katerina Placha Calista Ruat Beila Ungar Matteo di Loreto Ariel Merkuri Drew Nelson Liam Redhead Samuel Rees as well as any aspirants promoted into the corps de ballet. Drew Nelson and Samuel Rees are from the Royal Ballet school and I believe they are - or have been - already dancing with the company. _______________________ Also guest appearances by the Hamburg Ballet (Neumeier's Death in Venice, Sept 9 -12) and the Paris Opera Ballet (Paquita, May 29 - 31 2015). And the RB is also in Copenhagen in September so you could see them and the Hamburg company and the RDB all in one trip.
  18. Like some others I have lots of reservations about the piece as a whole, but none at all about Lauren Cuthberson - a really lovely performance from her and I thought that if the evening belonged to any of the dancers it was her rather than Watson. But unlike most, I liked Act 2 the least.
  19. The cast change may be unavoidable but it's really disappointing for people like me who have booked to see only the first 2 performances and now will miss the Nunez cast altogether.
  20. Thank you - someone was praising him on another site but didn' t mention his name!
  21. Please could someone tell me who did Catalabutte at the April 5th performance?
  22. As I understand it, danseur noble is a type - like demi-caractere - rather than a title: so someone could be a danseur noble without being a great dancer - Derek Deane, for instance.
  23. John, wasn't it at the Barbican that Robin Ticciati and the Aurora orchestra played Apollo so brilliantly for Michael Clark?
