I have recently discovered the historical novels of Anne O'Brien. She's an older lady and writes beautifully. The are three, Virgin Widow, about Anne Neville, Warwick's daughter and wife of Richard III, The Devil's Consort about Eleanor of Aquitaine and her latest one that's just out, The King's Concubine, about Alice Perrers.

We spent a lot of money for my ex DD to do drama. At first she thought she wanted to do ballet, then musical theatre and has finally decided to become an actress. She has done ballet, tap, modern, jazz and street dance, singing and drama since she was tiny. She did her utmost at school and did well there and in all her dance and drama exams. She did not get into a drama school for reasons I won't go into, but continued at university. We will pay for her professional photos and that will be it. She has practised, performed and done exams when she was ill, or it was her birthday and missed fun and parties because it was her dream. What else could we do but support her?

We had a girl in my daughter's class who was in everything, won everything, etc, etc, but had burned out before she was 13.

Vogue has also said that they will not be using excessively skinny girls as models any more.

Cathy was taught by the same school and teachers my DDs went to. They are very proud of her and I wish her well for her future. It would be nice if she could come back to the UK.

I remember from Darcy's book that a teacher told her when she took her Grade 4 at White Lodge that she was a disgrace and was embarrassed by her dancing. I hope she lived to eat her words!

I didn't dare do the lighter trick with my ex DD's ribbons, but the principal's mother did and said she'd she'd be rich if she had a pound for every pair she'd done it to!
