  1. Any idea how many they are taking? Or whether everyone gets to attend the audition class or are they whittling it down in the technique class? Well done to your DD
  2. Did anyone apply for this ? A few of my students did, recalls this weekend
  3. Balletmum55 did your DD enjoy her first MA session?
  4. I'm a sibling but me and my younger brother always had opposite expectations- he loved performing and being the centre of attention. I loved that he took that role as it deflected attention from me, I just wanted to teach! I teach a few siblings now where they both have the same end goal, I can't give them opportunities that aren't available!
  5. Wondering if anyone has any advice or experience with siblings? In particular when one excels and the other feels deflated or has seriously bashed confidence? I've seen it a few times particularly boy girl siblings, when the boy does better, the girl ends up deflated and its very hard to explain to a child that their brother isn't better there's just more opportunities for boys. Any advice or shared experiences very much welcome!
  6. Huge good luck to all those starting JA classes today! Had the obligatory uniform photo from my little student!
  7. In case anyone is after a present for their teacher, I've just opened a gift from one of my boys- a pair of his ballet shoes that were incredibly important to our student/teacher bond. Very emotional evening!
  8. I took inter foundation BBO and my examiner stopped the pianist with a very sharp "really?" after the sauté exercise which was then repeated, the adage was slow but the sauté was impossibly slow and I think the examiner was fed up. Years later as a teacher I realised the examiner in question was very fond on finding ways to pass candidates rather than ways to fail them
  9. Sarahw she still does. I think the advice given was that there was nothing being taught at associate schemes that they didn't already offer, which I suspect was because their teachers taught at a number of high profile schedules
  10. The only "negative" I've heard from KS dance, is my friend was told to drop associate places namely Royal as it was a money making scam designed to support the company. Not sure whether it can be strictly viewed as a negative as it could well be true, but I think the training on said money making scam is pretty good! To be fair my friend thoroughly enjoyed her time at the school and the only ended up auditioning for KSD upper school, she has done a brief stint as a professional ballerina and now teaches.
  11. Yes I did check that as I know loads of places don't. But its mainly private landlords or shared flats, so pretty safe. I love the almond range from loccitane, I had a shower gel in my monthly beauty box - also a fab idea as it's something to look forward to every month
  12. I've just made 5 boxes for my students leaving in September. The box is covered in photos of their time dancing and inside there is: - super noodles - chewing gum - hairspray and bun pins for the girls - lynx and shower gel for the boys - first aid kit - mini sewing kit - mini dry shampoo - make up remover - hot chocolate sachets - little cork bottle with sparkles in and origami stars I know they are also receiving a jar filled with little notes to cheer them up if they get a little homesick
  13. When my students audition we see whether the leotard needs a belt. Some leotards just look nicer with a belt, others mainly the low backed ones or ones with seam detailing look too busy with a belt as well. I think it's personal choice.
  14. Do you mean the grade as in intermediate etc or pass merit distinction? I know students who have got merits and the occasional distinctions who have got places on top associate schemes. Similarly students who have consistently achieved the very highest distinctions that can't get places because they aren't the right build or they have always been lucky with examiners and very showy over danced exams have wound up with top grades that would make an audition panel cringe.
  15. Thanks for this Jan, just hope the kids at JA/MA and Elmhurst can manage to watch!
  16. My students seem to think it's on- as they were the reason it swapped!
  17. Not sure about cost, but Associated Luminosity do a really good job. We've used them a few times. They also take action shots om stage which are really lovely.
  18. I think it is marked as education offsite?
  19. Several students at our school, repeatedly auditioned for RBS and with the exception of one boy who received SWL twice, they all got flat No letters. All 6 of them are heading to various vocational schools in September, some still following the ballet route others contemporary, musical theatre or commercial. RBS is exceptional and a wonderful experience for all those selected, but it is not the be all and end all
  20. BBO associate northern results are out! Lots of yeses for our school and some very happy children
  21. Year 4 and 24 sessions. The photo from Instagram is such a lovely memento for them
  22. Girl, although I haven't heard from her about whether she attended or how it went!
  23. One of my super boys has been offered a place for Birmingham ?
