  1. What about skiing for a private lesson to get your ballet brain back into gear again before putting yourself out there amongst the girls?
  2. Edward also fitted my two. He will not worry about how old you are, he is a good fitter. I would suggest calling to check when is best to go in and what makes he has in at the moment. There is no parking very near the shop, it is n a little shopping area called the Hopmarket. Sometimes he could straight away and other times it could take over an hour and he spends whatever time he needs to. Give him a call!
  3. How about Marcel Marceaux the mime artist?
  4. A 'Me Too' moment here as I use my pink sistema one at work without any problems!
  5. Something I haven't come across before. Would have liked to see what the syllabus covers but it isn't possible unless you purchase each grade!
  6. It is also about the subject being taught. For example there are no Contemporary exams so I would be looking for a teacher with training from a contemporary dance school to offer the best option.
  7. Interesting 2dancersmom! I saw Edward a couple of weeks ago and he didn't say anything! Will have to investigate!! La Danse was bought out a couple of years ago by a costume supplier with an online business but remained open as there aren't many shoe fitters around!
  8. Don't think so, unless you are thinking of their previous shop in Broad Streeet? 01905 27541. Give Edward a call.
  9. La Danes, Edward Bury, in the Hopmarket, Worcester
  10. Was watching a documentary a couple of nights ago on TV all about the London Underground. There was a shot if standing passengers feet and very clearly was a dancer doing their foot exercises, loved it!
  11. Central also do RAD vocational classes on Saturday afternoon which Assoicates attend as well as outside students as my DD did Advanced 1 there. Brilliant class and brilliant teacher. At that time they would also have entered DD if. Wanted, it was quite a few years ago though!
  12. I think the requirement is to be able to prove you are a degree student and will pay your student loan into the account. My husband is also a mature student but an undergraduate so he qualifies as he canary his student LAN into the account.
  13. If it needs doing wouldn't the school offer it on the students first day?? I work in a college of Further Education and we sort it out for them but I have to say that there isn't a very high importance attached to it at all!!
  14. Just want to share our experience which may help others. DD at the age of 18 (and looking more like 14!) was studying in London. Her bank allowed her account to be hacked, through their website, and her student loan, dance scholarship, savings, everything was stolen amounting to about £3500. The bank were highly unhelpful, ignored the person in front of them and it took 3 months for them to give her her money back after we had numerous conversations and emails with them. The Ombudsman only offered £50 compensation. The main problem was that she had no other account with any other bank so we were unable to get any money to her as the bank had frozen her account. She had to borrow money to get her home so we could go in person to a building society to deactivate a children's dormant account. The moral of this story is to have 2 accounts with 2 different banks so that you always have money available or a means to get money to your offspring. Good luck to all going on in September, never forget your dream however hard it becomes and enjoy the experience. Heather Aka Taximom
  15. Would auditioning for the York CAT (ballet) scheme be worth considering? You may be too late for September but worth looking at.
  16. His mom is VERY relieved as he has been messed around by a number of companies and being asked to fly to Europe a number of times at VERY short notice and at great expense by people who had seen him at the Prix so kn his height for them to turn round and say he wasn't tall enough!!
  17. My DD's old dance school has at least one group if not more in the gala and one through to the finals of the young dancer competition. They have had groups in the finals every year I can remember, certainly since DD went to the finals when she was 7 and she's now 22! Hope everyone has a lovely time at the gala, it is a lovely evening and a nice way to round off the competition week.
  18. Tom has gained a contract with Scottish Ballet and is due to start there this month.

If you have a gas cooker you can seal it in the flame which is easier than a match!
  20. You have to evidence, as has been said, that the same course is not available nearer. When the LA don't understand the difference between Performing Arts and Dance it can be an interesting discussion. I would suggest you find your nearest educational establishment that offers exactly the same qualification and then find the USP for the course you want and compare the two. Good luck, it will be worth tryingctocro this, ask your CAT scheme to help you put your case together, I am sure they will be only too happy.
  21. Thank you for that thought Kaso Would the standard be high enough for a graduate dancer though?
  22. Had a quick trawl of the student finance information and in the elegability section is states that the course must be in the UK and the establishment one recognised by student finance.
  23. I have students who have just completed a HNC, so 1 year, and obtained funding for their 3 year degree courses. Be careful when looking at degree as not all degree courses are funded through students finance! It is an absolute nightmare! I am thinking of Arts Ed degrees don't get student finance, as you know Rambert and Central do, Laine, Urdang, London Studios may do can't remember off they of my head!! LIPA does get funding.
  24. From memory you can have 4 years of funding so can do a HNC (1 year) plus a 3 year degree. You would have to ring student finance about the implications for a HND plus degree. They are open at the weekend and till about 8pm but it will obviously be busy as the results come out so would suggest calling now rather then later!!
