  1. I think that the Lilac Fairy is probably her Legal Guardian and is able to give permission as the kiss is for medical reasons.
  2. That looks amazing. But will they announce the casting before we have to book the tickets .
  3. I also find the ‘skid marks’ strangely distracting. Could Aya not pop out with a wet wipe?
  4. Mayara Magri did have the role of "Gypsy Girl" in Two Pigeons back in Dec 2015 and very good she was. The only Don Q I've booked is for Magri on the basis of that performance and I am expecting great things .
  5. Sorry, not clear was I . The big TVs they have around the place showing ballet clips have a ticker type display across the bottom with the cast changes (like the breaking news on TV).
  6. Mayara Magri replaced by Fumi Kaneko as one of the D'Jampee dancers and Mayara Magri replaced by Gina Storm Jensen in the Pas D'action.
  7. Do they show the cast changes in the Amphi anywhere? I didn't see any changes until I went downstairs and saw the scrolling ticker display. Edit: snap!
  8. Last night I had to ask for a cast change slip, Usher: “yes, I think we have a few”, as she reaches into a drawer. What is the point of the hundreds of cast lists given out if they are knowingly inaccurate? That is a bigger waste of paper. I think this change slip stupidity is the single thing that annoys me most about the recent ROH mischievousness!
  9. Solor was probably just ahead of his time, it is more ethical to shoot and weed out older and sicker animals ☺️ but also 😢. (the tiger got a few chuckles last night).
  10. Whilst I found last Saturday’s matinee enjoyable from the sheer beauty of the dancing from Takada/Naghdi/McRae I did not feel any emotional involvement and to be honest I wasn’t surprised as I find La Bayadere a bit too silly to get involved in the story and I just go for the dancing spectacle. Last night, by contrast (and a surprise to me), I was overwhelmed 😭 with Osipova’s portrayal of Nikiya, particularly in the snake-basket scene and in the final act, I know I was involved because I was just willing her not to take the basket... It was a real privilege to see Osipova/Muntagirov/Nuñez on stage at the same time. Nunez’s dancing was classical ballet at its finest and Muntagirov was simply the best. Marcelino Sambé was a most excellent Bronze Idol, smooth was the word in my mind watching him dance. The scrim was also back in full force during the shades scene and Act 3 .
  11. I don't think anything can top that - short, relevant and a classic . And, back on topic, any insights on who the three shades will be tonight?
  12. I really do sympathise with you Penelope , but you do paint a wonderful word-picture . Enjoy La Bayadere tonight, we have a stunning cast.
  13. I thought it just made for an attractive and eye-catching poster, which after all is the purpose of a poster .
  14. Don't even think that Alison... Now I'm going to worry until I see the cast sheet . (I specifically booked this performance to see Nunez's Gamzatti.)
  15. It's great to be able to see both. I really enjoyed McRae's pyrotechnics last Saturday and very much looking forward to seeing Muntagirov's elegance this Friday. I was very happy to be seeing Corrales as Solor but Osipova/Muntagirov/Nuñez has always been my absolute dream cast for Bayadere.
  16. They certainly looked festive, I thought it was Christmas decorations until the penny dropped.
  17. Capybara, I posted this on the Insights thread a few days back, probably worth putting here as well: I watched the RB La Bayadere Blu-ray today and the Fakirs really are grey rather than ‘blacked up’ so I thought I’d have a quick Google. ‘The Mystics, Ascetics and Saints of India’, 1903, by John Campbell Oman, says that Sadhus (Hindu version of Fakir as far as I can tell) rub their skin all over with ashes for protection from the sun’s rays and insects. The ash is sifted down to a fine powder so gives a good covering. Google says this about the book I referred to: “This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.” If you Google 'Sadhus' you'll find lots of relevant images showing it's not blacking-up.
  18. I quite like this statement in the announcement: "Naxos has also signed a long-term agreement with the Royal Opera House which will give it 'the first option to distribute and market new and upcoming audiovisual recordings of opera and ballet performances from the Royal Opera House on DVD and Blu-ray, as well as to television, video on demand platforms and educational and other licensing partners'." This makes me think we'll get more disc releases and less likely to get limited to streaming only.
  19. Now UHD has been mentioned, has anyone (looking at you Stevie ) spotted any 4K UHD ballets yet? I see there are some operas but haven't noticed any ballets. I don't have a 4k TV (yet) but my Blu Ray player died recently so replaced with a UHD player for a bit of future proofing.
  20. Thanks Alison. And, I am just about to book some tickets for SW and could do with some seat tips please. I’ve been there twice before but the same day for the same production and sat way back in the Upper Circle and then front row of the Stalls. How does the SW Stalls rake compare with ROH (which is not very good in my experience) and London Coliseum which has a good rake? When I select ‘Best Available Seats’ in the Stalls it gives me row G or H. Would these be good? I really hate heads in front of me and would prefer to go for the front row than risk this. It looks like the Circle and Upper Circle have a good enough rake to not be a problem. I know this is asked a lot and I have had a bit of search, any thoughts welcome. (Booking for She Persisted and San Francisco prog C).
  21. For £15 a head you can come and watch my ROH Blu Ray collection, and I'll include a glass of wine and a bag of crisps at the interval...
  22. I know it's difficult to be definitive on this but do people tend to find it's better to book early for Sadler's Wells to get the seats you like or to book later in the expectation that prices will fall? I have mostly booked for ROH in the past where discounts are very rare so I almost always book early, but given recent ROH price hikes I am spreading my ballet £s around a bit more.
  23. Richard, the RB performed Serenade at Covent Garden in 2014. Some gorgeous pics here: https://www.roh.org.uk/productions/serenade-by-george-balanchine It would be lovely to see it again soon.
  24. You're welcome Richard . I found it quite interesting. Definitely getting into a La Bayadere frame of mind now.
