  1. Bit of help please. I am trying to get ROH streaming stuff on my Firecube using the Vimeo app available for the Firecube/stick. So this is the Vimeo app specifically installed on the Fire device. I’ve searched this group and read the ROH stuff to no avail. Has anybody succeeded? I won’t expect the specifics 😄, just can it be done? Thanks. (I could use a Chromecast but I would like to use the Firecube).
  2. No, I’m not put off, I probably will book a last minute one next year. Just trying to prioritise what operas are going in my basket on Tuesday (alongside the Swan Lakes 😄). It looks like Figaro comes to my local theatre (Milton Keynes) sometimes so I might hang on for one of those if a smaller venue helps.
  3. I nearly went to Jenufa, but decided it sounded too real and intense (so not for me). I do plan to watch the stream once I can work out how to get it on my big telly 😄. (Something to work out with my extra hour this morning).
  4. Thanks Geoff, brilliant 👍. I spluttered over my phone screen “when she is not distracted by her cleavage” 😂. I’ll have a look a bit more into Macbeth, probably give Figaro a miss, or do a last minute booking, I enjoy opera but really struggle with the length sometimes, I don’t think I’ve managed a whole Figaro recording in one sitting yet. I’ll definitely try and book an Angela Gheorghiu Tosca then and maybe another Tosca this year as well.
  5. I’m quite new to opera, so far I’ve seen: Tosca (loved it, made me cry), Don Giovanni (very busy and entertaining), L'elisir d'amore (lovely) and The Magic Flute (nice singing, story slight strange, I’m still not quite sure what was going on). I’m booked for La Traviata (favourite opera so far, but not yet seen live) and Rigoletto. Of the others coming up at ROH what’s a newbie going to like? Macbeth or Nabucco? I guess The Marriage of Figaro is a must see? I’ve got a fairly short attention span so nothing too heavy 😄. And I’ll be booking another Tosca. Angela Gheorghiu is one of the few opera singers I’ve heard of 😁, so I guess there’ll be heavy demand for her performances? I appreciate any guidance.
  6. While everyone's here. Pretty Yende or Angel Blue for next year?
  7. I do remember getting some very cheap La Fille Mal Gardee Stalls seats once, that was nice. I guess the full price payers will be surrounded by students now... Nothing against students but they do add a different atmosphere when they're en-masse 😄.
  8. Thanks, booked for Saturday matinee. But, Violetta dies...?
  9. Thank you. I quite like it that ROH don't do offers that much, but I would hope they'd email us if they did. Oropesa it is then.
  10. This seems as good a thread as any to piggy back on. I’m planning to go to ROH La Traviata (not yet seen one) and I’ve been looking at the way tickets have been selling. A few days ago there were loads of Orchestra Stalls tickets for many performances, now they’ve nearly all gone but there’s loads of amphi tickets. Have I missed a bargain buy somewhere? Or is this the normal dynamics for opera tickets? And, is the Oropesa cast the best one? Currently thinking about the 6th November matinee.
  11. The one you describe is the one I used. Apparently unsuccessfully.
  12. Thanks, done. Hopefully I'm not too much of a pest 😕.
  13. Does the Contact Us button work? I sent a message but I've not had any feedback.
  14. This was probably one of the most moving moments of the afternoon for me, raw emotion. And it was lovely to see Kristen McNally dancing, I’ve only seen her in character roles for a few years now.
  15. I don’t post much on this forum these days but I’ve missed this thread 😄. At R&J matinee yesterday, Juliet (Fumi Kaneko) tragically dying in the last few minutes of the performance, me pulling down my mask 😇 so my glasses don’t mist up, the chap in front of me looking at his smart watch. What the fudge! How can you be wondering what the time is at that moment?
  16. 😄 I nearly did continue it, couldn't quite decide 🙂.
  17. Quick question. In the very front row of the orchestra stalls at ROH can you see surtitles (or even subtitles) anywhere? Should I stick to the amphitheatre?
  18. If they did Kleenex with ear loops that could be quite useful for weepy ballets - face mask and hankie in one 😢🙂
  19. I’ve been trialling anti-fog lens wipes and they seem to work pretty well, you just need to make sure your glasses are dry from whatever you clean them with else it gets a bit icky. During lock-down I was hoping the first ballets would be Swan Lake or Giselle, on reflection probably good that it’s not. Glasses, plus masks plus an emotional ballet could be very messy 😢.
  20. Thanks. I'm really looking forward to it. Dances at a Gathering was the last thing I saw before lock-down so it's nice it'll be more-or-less the first thing I'll see 🙂.
  21. Thanks for the replies folks 👍. Looks like we’ll go for our usual schedule of planning to get there an hour before kick-off which allows for any delays and gives us a chance to wind down after what’ll probably be a hot and sticky journey. Stem ginger is my usual favourite as well but I do like the sorbets in the Summer 🙂.
  22. I guess the time window depends where you’re sitting. We’re in the orchestra stalls, so in principle straight in the front door and into the auditorium. But we will need to make a diversion first 🙂. A good point about the entrance though. Our tickets show the usual door for where we are seated but may not be correct with social distanced routeing. So they are selling water then, presumably with the ice creams? I've never really noticed before if they sold bottled water or not.
  23. Do you think that 5 to 15 mins is at the entrance to the auditorium then? I interpreted the slightly vague wording as at the theatre entrance. My usual trains are not running so we’ll be walking from St Pancras, I need to stay hydrated but don’t want to be over-loaded with water bottles. Also don’t want to get too hot and fail the temperature scan…😅 Are people being admitted to the theatre building (not auditorium) before the entry time on the tickets?
  24. A few logistics questions if you’d be so kind. This Sunday matinee will be our first socially distanced performance, the tickets have an arrival time of 5 to 15 mins before show starts, is this long enough to visit the loos and then get to ones’ seats, given the possibility of queues? Sunday is looking like it’s going to be really hot, is drinking water available at the interval? I guess probably not. And is it wrong that I’m really looking forward to eating my ice cream in the auditorium 😄?
