  1. Now time to discuss the actual shows, perhaps? A lovely re-start to the run from Nunez and Muntagirov last night and great Bluebirds from O'Sullivan and Sambe (was that a debut?). There also seemed to be more general 'energy' on stage last night than was the case over Christmas. Some interesting variations in tempi from Kessels but they worked well, especially in Muntagirov's glorious Act 2 soliloquy - has anyone ever danced this better?
  2. I also wanted to say how much I have enjoyed, and learned from, the discourse on here related to Woolf Works. Thank you everyone
  3. I could happily skip the divertissements - apart from the grand pas! In fact, I am about to submit to several RB Sleeping Beauties simply because I am interested in the artists involved. I remember years ago hearing Kenneth MacMillan confess, when he was the RB Director, that he couldn't 'take' any more of sitting through SB performances.. I was shocked then. I'm pretty much with him all the way now.
  4. I need to apologise for the strange typos which appeared on this post. Where did that face spring from? By the way, the people I was talking with on Sat. were experiencing the new cloakroom arrangements for the first time. One had mobility problems and got worried because the lift was so slow. Two hadn't realised the amount of time they would need to go downstairs to hand in their coats. I have discovered that a number of people are worried about using the marble stairs and so have introduced them to alternative routes and suggested improved signage to the ROH.
  5. I was one of the 'guilty' coat wearers/carriers last night. However, the three people nearest to me in the row had big bags as well as coats. In fact, our 'stuff' kept getting tangled up. But, talking about it, the problem was exacerbated because there was variously a) insufficient time to go downstairs with coats/bags; ( a desire/need to keep warm during the intervals when the blast of cold air hits the auditorium; © no room left in the cloakroom under the Stalls Circle; or (d) an unwillingness to queue for ages afterwards (collecting coats/bags at the second interval doesn't exactly solve the problem).
  6. I found the second cast in I now, I then (Mrs Dalloway) (Galeazzi; Naghdi; Ball and Richardson) absolutely riveting. Wow! [i had only seen the first cast in rehearsal.] For my taste, Becomings (Cowley stunning) was a tad repetitive. Tuesday is rendered a little confusing (for me) because the cast from the first piece (Galeazzi and Hirano) returns - but I guess that that is how it is meant to be. Again, it felt longer than it needed to be. The curtain calls for Woolf Works feel unduly prolonged. And pity the poor dancers who finished hours previously but have to wait until the end for their applause.
  7. Yes, Yasmine's interview is very illuminating. It is interesting also to read that she and Matthew are working with Alexander Agadzhanov and that Francesca and Alexander Campbell are working with Lesley Collier and Jonathan Cope.
  8. Thank you for posting the link, Quintus. I'd recommend viewers to go in at 15 mins so as to avoid a poorly prepared and pronounced introduction by Mark Carney.
  9. I have been present for McGregor standing ovations before and I'm afraid to say that they have always seemed orchestrated. However, WW is, I think, attracting more of a Sadlers Wells type audience which is less inhibited and more willing to stand up than the usual ROH clientele - and that is all to the good.
  10. I see that they are still showing Jacopo Tissi has hailing from La Scala when he is now with the Bolshoi, isn't he?
  11. There was booing at the premiere and at some subsequent performances of MacMillan's The Judas Tree. I have also heard less obvious boos for other RB productions, some quite recently.
  12. Congratulations to all the winners, of course. Two reflections about the nominees........... The lists cause me to realise how much of the wonderful world of dance i remain unaware of and how very impressive some of the smaller endeavours are - for example, the Gary Clarke Company which won in the 'best independent' category. How extraordinary it was that, for all its efforts at presenting 'new work' during the 2015/16 season, the Royal Ballet did not secure any nominations for choreography. Maybe there should be pause for thought here on the part of the RB? For once, I totally agree with the Critics and their shortlist included some truly impressive pieces.
  13. The forthcoming run of Mayerling will see the debuts of both Bonelli and Morera.
  14. Words are beginning to fail me on the subject of the ROH using ticket agencies and the prices charged. It was only 'yesterday' that attempts were made to limit the number of tickets Friends could purchase because of the fear that they were being sold on.There is an inconsistency here which I can't get my head around. I have managed to get tickets for Watson/Osipova but I really feel for fans who haven't been so fortunate.

  16. Do you know for sure, Amelia, that the ROH is selling tickets to agencies?
  17. The child in question could easily have been taken out with no disruption to anyone else. I was wary of saying anything as I had once made the mistake of lightly touching a child next to me in the Stalls Circle in order to ask her not to lean out so far as I couldn't see anything. Her mother, who was nearer the stage than her, and apparently unaware of the problem thitherto, immediately rounded on me with a "Don't you dare touch my daughter" and told me that she could do what she wanted. She did but the performance was ruined for me anyway.
  18. Mayerling was actually shown in the cinema in ?2007 but not live. I remember many familiar faces (including Edward Watson himself) going to the Covent Garden Odeon to watch it. Endearingly, he equipped himself with a fizzy drink and popcorn before the screening began.
  19. I would like to think that we can discuss this very relevant subject without appearing unkind about some of the people involved.
  20. Did you realise that the 'audience vote' is something separate, bridiem? Maybe Stina Quagebeur will emerge triumphant there. The dancers listed above as participating in the competition on the night were nominated by their fellow dancers and other ENB staff.
  21. Yes. In March 2014, Muntagirov replaced David Trensemiech who had left the RB to be a Principal in Bucharest. Akane Takada (then a Soloist) was Aurora.
