  1. Pleased to be able to report a better showing from the 4 Rose Fairy cavaliers last night: Ball; Hay; Mock; Zucchetti. As others have said: Naghdi absolutely lovely as the Rose Fairy. Nunez and Muntagirov glorious as ever in the pdd.
  2. I think that the consolation now, Simon, is that most the Insights are shown on live relay. However, it seems that interviews with individual artists are not yet included in this initiative.
  3. It has been the case before, hasn't it, that most critics review the first night (as they did this time) and then re-visit for a sort of round-up on debuts. I should imagine that some of them at least share our interest in Naghdi/Ball and Clarke as well as Hayward?

  5. Thank you, Simon on behalf of everyone who is interested in the Munich casting.
  6. This is interesting as the 4 Cavaliers did not quite 'hit the spot' last Friday either (slightly different line-up). I think that part of the problem is that they are not sufficiently well-matched for height and the ensemble work thus tends to looks a bit scrappy. The costumes and wigs do not help either.
  7. Still waiting for comments on Francesca Hayward's debut as the SPF yesterday. Was noone (apart from Tony (above)) there?
  8. Come on, Tony, don't be coy! Presumably: Yasmine Naghdi, Francesca Hayward and Anna-Rose O'Sullivan? Also James Hay?
  9. I don't feel that the problems with the Chinese dance have been entirely overcome. Very disappointing that the caricatures of the grandparents have not been adjusted.
  10. I was horrified to read about ROH tickets being on Viagogo at inflated prices and decided to enquire about it. The official ROH response was that there is no commercial arrangement between the ROH and Viagogo and purchasers of such tickets could well be refused entry to the performance.
  11. ........ and, if this cast still has Yasmine Naghdi as the Rose Fairy, my cup will be overflowing.
  12. Have just seen that the RB will be in Brisbane between 29th June and 9th July 2017 with Winter's Tale and Woolf Works: http://www.roh.org.uk/news/the-royal-ballet-to-perform-in-australia-in-2017

  14. I agree. This thread has developed really well. There are strong, well-argued points of view, interesting snippets of information and some (relevant) side-spins - all of which contribute to my own thinking in a helpful way.
  15. I don't disagree with what you say but I do wonder why, in these circumstances, the RB seems to be able to spend so much on super-expensive sets - the one for Multiverse being the latest example.
  16. The main 'problem' as regards viewing this production is that the machinery for the wall causes the level of the stage to be much higher than normal so people in the front rows of the Stalls cannot see much of the dancers' legs. There are also moments when characters are standing watching from the top of the wall and they might be obscured by the overhang at the back of the First Circle.
  17. Yes, Alina Cojocaru in this production of Giselle has reminded us all not only that she is THE Giselle among Giselles but that she is the most amazingly versatile artist. What a performance. I didn't want to start to clap because I was too taken up with her - with it all. But I almost wish that each Giselle had been given a solo curtain call before everyone came on.
  18. Yes. I have heard long-limbed dancers explain it the same way.
  19. I believe that they are applying sports science approaches to ballet training in such a way as to analyse where a dancer may be putting unnecessary strain on him/herself. Presumably, issues arising from (e.g.) height can be factored in.
  20. The thing is, Vanartus, that nearly everyone writing on here has been to the McGregor Triple, some more than once, so I think that we can be regarded as being willing to give things a go and being open to persuasion. In many of the posts above, I detect a sense of disappointment that the bill did not meet expectations rather than downright condemnation. Of course, the competition up the road this week does McGregor no favours and I'm happy that I booked for more than one of Khan's Giselles and restricted myself to one McGregor.
  21. Just want to echo the post about Madison being wonderful this afternoon. Indeed, this line up was absolutely, and coherently, superb. Huge kudos to Ken Saruhashi as Hilarion as well. Another ENB artist we need to see more of.
