  1. Agree Taxi, though my son said that she probably didn't hear it as boys were talking quietly between them selves. This class is one of quite a few run in this new centre - part of a big project of local government. For a moment I though about writing s feedback to the centre but I don't think it's worth it.
  2. I'm sorry, I have to get it out of my chest! My DS is a keen and promising ballet dancer but he also loves street dance (break dancing, locking, waving, popping - Michael Jackson style etc). He trains once a month at Tring but then he just practises at home with DVDs and YouTube tutorials (and The Next Step episodes :-) ). We live in the middle of nowhere with no street dance classes available. Because we are all constantly looking for a class I finally found one, and just for boys, group age perfect for him. He was over the moon even though it was an hour drive away. We went this afternoon but after the class my DS said he doesn't want to go again. He says that the boys were ok though they were swearing (8-12 years old!), the teacher (a woman) was OK as well but at some point she said to the class "come on!, you want to look strong not like some weak and flimsy ballet dancers!" Can you believe it? How a dance teacher who should encourage children to try any form of dance could be so ignorant? Such shame!
  3. Good luck to all at WL today and tomorrow. Enjoy it!
  4. Well done to your DD! Finals at Elmhurst is a big achievement! Sorry to hear about your non refundable holiday but fingers crossed it will be good news after finals!
  5. Good luck for tomorrow with Tring auditions! I can't believe it's been already a year since my DD's auditions! (Also I'm already stressed thinking that it will be my DS turn next year - if he's lucky enough to get through to finals) All fingers crossed for all your lovely DCs at finals!
  6. Just to let everybody know that I've heard back from Ballet Cymru and this year all the courses are held at the Rieverfront Theatre in Newport. Much easier for DC traveling by bus or train.
  7. I think it was about 20 in each group - or maybe 25? So it's possible that a couple of year 8 entries will be with year 7 in group 2. Anyway don't worry - then know very well who is trying for which year and they won't compare year 7 to year 9 etc
  8. Does anybody know where are the courses taking place this year? Riverfront theatre or ballet Cymru studios? Previously it was in both places but this year it's organised differently. I did email them after reading the leaflet carefully but in reply I've received the same leaflet with the same info again - so the answer is there but I can't see it! I guess that if the performance is in Riverftont that maybe the everyday lessons as well? I just don't know if there is enough room in the theatre to teach both groups at the same time? I wanted both my DC to attend but it can't be done if it's in 2 different places...
  9. If I remember well there were 2 groups for year 7 entry girls and 1 group for older girls last year. So when group A had ballet lesson, group B had physio or visited boarding facilities etc.
  10. My DD did the 11+ ballet course last year and loved it. She found it a bit challenging (though was one of the youngests) but thought all the teachers/dancers were very nice. I never heard a bad comment about ballet Cymru workshops or intensive courses - and my DD did several of them. She'll be definitely going this year again.
  11. Well done to your DD Piccolo! You never know what might come out of it - maybe 3rd time lucky! Will keep my fingers crossed!
  12. Oh Balletmum20, I know how you feel! I felt the same last year! I couldn't think about anything else, I couldn't sleep, concentrate.... It was really difficult! And the wait was just killing me! My DD got 3 finals and watching other DDs at some point I thought that my DD won't get in as is not good enough comparing to others. I remember at finals at her favourite school I went for a walk after a tour around the school and I actually cried! I felt so sorry for my DD, she wanted to get in so much! Since she was 5! Then the results came and she got in! I was in pieces for weeks after - it was so emotional! I think we parents worry much more then the children themselves - because we want what's best for them and we want to protect them from disappointment and we want their dreams to come true ..... Long list. Now my DS wants to audition next year (actually THIS year in November it starts!) and I hope I'll be wiser, calmer, more relaxed.... I hope. Wishing you and your DD best of luck! Try to relax a bit - it will be over soon. And as Lema says what will be will be :-)
  13. In my DS case it is just simply following his older sister. In past he Wanted to quit a couple of times but his teacher "didn't let him" and said he has potential/talent and now my DS loves it and is planning to audition for full time training in November!
  14. How was your weekend in Warsaw? What did you think of Polish national ballet? I hope the weather wasn't too bad.
  15. At Elmhutst there are assessments every year as well (I think year 7 is in April) but apparently no assessing out until year 9.
  16. At Elmhurst it's in year 9 and year 11. RBS I think year 8,9 and then at 11 auditions for upper school. Not in year 10 because of GSCE. What have changed recently is that the WL doesn't asses out in year 7. I don't know how it is in Tring and Hammond - I guess no assessing out in year 10 as well.
  17. Well done to the "yeses"! Congratulations!
  18. Hi Michelle, my DD was doing RAD grade 6 and intermediate foundation when she auditioned. Next year my DS will be RAD grade 4 when it comes to his auditions. I don't think it matters at all. If anything it's just additional info for the panel to help them asses the potential. In my DD current year 7 in one of the Voc. Schools children were at different grades/levels.
  19. My DD's knees do stick out sadly but she still has been offered MDS place at two vocational schools so I hope there is a chance they will improve. I think it's just practising ballet with perfect technique, pulling up knees etc rather then stretching.
  20. Hi B4B and well done do your DS - 3 finals is a great achievement! Definitely shorts for RBS audition - generally shorts preferred for all the auditions at all of the schools. My DS has an elastic belt which he wears with his tights to his normal ballet class.
  21. Oh CeliB! What news! It must have been extremely difficult and stressful for your DS and you, I'm so sorry to hear about what happened - but the outcome is fantastic! Things do happen for a reason! Your DD is very talented and it all calls for a very large glass of gin indeed!
  22. Thank you all for your replies. When my DD comes home for Christmas (very soon!!! Hurray!) we will have a read together about the dancers mentioned above. And just to add - my DD is very very happy at her school (was always her favourite!) She is loving her ballet lessons and can't wait to start having more hours in New year. She had a moment of being worried (or "life not being fair") that her chances are smaller than those at WL - but that's so not true - all is down to hard work, dedication, passion, talent and a bit of good luck :-)
  23. I need a few examples of British (or trained in Britain) past or present principal dancers/first soloist who weren't accepted at WL or even at RBS US but still managed to be highly successful dancers. I need it for uplifting talk with my DD and thought I'll ask you before I start to get through all the info on ROH or ENB website. I'm sure you knowledgeable people can help and mods please feel free to change the title if it doesn't make sense - it's late.
  24. Well done to all the "yes" letters. Lema - I remember how well your DD did last year getting finals at all the schools she tried for even though she started dancing not long ago. Hope this year she'll do even better! Balletmum20 - 3 finals for your DD - great!
  25. Good luck to all auditioning at Tring! Enjoy the experience!
