  1. Thank you all for the answers, I was also thinking tendus :-) It's all more focused on feet though, or am I mistaken? what about working on straightening knees?
  2. To all the knowledgable forumers - if somebody needed to improve their feet ( to be able to use them better/more and develop "classical line") and to straighten their knees (stretch back of knees/pull up knees - so legs look straight and knees are not sticking out) - what ONE classical ballet exercise would you recommend (to somebody who trains ballet)? P.S. don't worry about importance of good teacher etc and assume that the exercise will be done with a very good understanding of correct technique
  3. Great news DanceMomma! Have you really waited that long?! No emails/calls from the school?! - must have been terrible but what a fantastic result! Worth all the wait!
  4. 70! That's a lot! Are the current year 11 girls auditioning today as well? Are they part of the 70 or did they audition earlier? Do they have more spaces in upper school then lower school? Is it just for 6.1 or 6.2 and graduates year as well? Turn out I know nothing about upper school auditions. I assumed there is similar number of places available so there will be 40-50 girls auditioning. Good luck to all the girls at Elmhurst today
  5. My DD also isn't going anywhere, she will be happy just to be at home :-) I know she'll be doing her exercises every day though... My DS is going to Tring again.
  6. Good luck to everybody waiting! Great to hear your DDs had a great time at finals! Elmhurst students go home next Wednesday and I guess they will send the letters not later then Wednesday. Though it would be great to hear within 48h!
  7. Thanks Sadielou, that's interesting. It's a bit sad but still much better/brighter that last year's results. Huge well done to all who got RBS upper school places and huge well done to all who were studying at WL for any length of time - fantastic achievement and opportunity. Are there similar statistics for Elmhurst? I wonder if anybody knows how many (ish) students go from lower to upper school? How many got to RBS or ENBS or others prestigious upper schools in the past or this year?
  8. Great news Amos! Well done to your DD! Good luck to all the girls tomorrow!
  9. Last year we auditioned an Tuesday and received results by post on the following Wednesday - so a week and 1 day and it's a letter
  10. It is true that we can't say that DC with the WL places are "the best" and Tring/Elmhurst/Hammond are "second best". I think there is a DD on the forum who got in to WL but didnt even get Finals at Elmhurst and I know of one who didn't get Place at Tring but also got in to WL. The schools are looking for different things. everybody who got to finals at any of the schools has done really well.
  11. If you have a chance do warm up before audition but avoid stretching without a warm up. They do half of the class (barre) before they ask them to do splits etc. And don't worry too much, half (if not more) year 7 boys currently at Elmhurst can't do splits.
  12. Just wanted to add that at this young age it doesn't matter that much I think, there were/are others her age who had more classes a week, different styles etc and others who had just a couple of ballet classes a week only. Voc schools are looking at potential. Of course it's different if your DC is older and wants to try for upper school in the future, then more training is needed.
  13. My DD is at Voc school now so trains 4h a day but before that, when she was 10/11 she had 3 regular RAD ballet classes a week (2x1h, 1x45mins), RBS JA class every other Sat plus 1 Pilates class and a Pilates routine and feet exercises she did almost every day at home (around 45mins).
  14. My DD danced at 2 different schools, just ballet at both. Teachers new about it and understood that my DD needed more hours/classes to get ready for vocational schools auditions. I think that if there is no possibility of additional classes at current school you could ask the teacher if she wouldn't mind if your DD attends a class at the other school.
  15. Yes! That would be great! I'd love to see it!
  16. Dear worried Mums, keep smiling and stay strong, it will be over soon. Just to let you know that at my DS JA centre 2 boys and one girl got into WL and they are not planning to attend Elmhurst finals. Tell your DC to enjoy it. I'll be thinking of you on Monday and Tuesay (who knows it might be my DS at finals next year!). Good luck!
  17. Im sorry for posting twice! Not sure how I did it, just wanted to correct spelling!
  18. I think that last year the majority (or half?) of those with WL places attended finals at Elmhurst. Some did as were told it will be rude not to, some weren't sure which school to choose, some just wanted to see if they get in and wanted to be seen by the school in case they are assessed out of WL one day. So lots of different reasons. There were some DC who, as soon as offered a place at their favourite school, didn't attend any more auditions.I know of 3 girls and one boy who got in from the waiting list last year at Elmhurst. 3 of them knew within a week (after others deciding to go to WL or Tring). Last one didn't know until May!
  19. Aklf and Sugarpumpkin - huge congratulations to your DDs! Sorry to hear about "nos", keep dancing and keep trying! BlueBird22 - I know about one girl who was on the WL reserve list last year (she ended up going to another Voc. School) but I'm not sure if they have reserve list every year. And of course for some WL isn't a first choice school so there might be some movement on the waiting list (if there is one this year).
  20. Well done to all the "yeses" and well done to all "nos" for getting finals. Ballet4boyz- hope you and your DS stay strong - you went just through 2 finals - so still a very big chance of a funded place. It was a no from WL but that's just one school. At Tring they always say that if they had more funding like WL or Elmhurst all the children invited to finals would receive it, it's just a shame they had just 6 or so funded places available this year. Elmhurst takes up to 12 boys I think, majority with funding, so just tell your DS to enjoy the finals and to do his best, to show how much he loves dancing. Will keep my fingers crossed for you and all the other DCs with finals at Elmhurst and Hammond.
  21. Oh I feel for all of you!! I remember that last year it was around 3:30pm on Monday when we got our results. I'm not waiting for the results myself this year but have been checking this thread today anyway - getting excited to hear your good news! It does look like you might need to wait until tomorrow ????
  22. surprising update! I did receive a reply from the centre: "I'm surprised she [the teacher] made any comments as she has done ballet herself during her degree and encourages all the boys to get involved in ballet and contemporary dance to improve technique in street dance and many boys do". Well, I asked my son again what exactly the teacher said last night, suggesting that maybe he misunderstood her. So he apologised for bad language and quote: "you want to look strong, rock hard, non of this flimsy flamsy ballet cr*p". It turns out that he softened it a bit for me yesterday. Anyway, not going to her classes ever again! Guess she didn't enjoy her ballet training or has other issues with ballet dancing. Or maybe she wanted to be "cool" ? It definitely didn't work and was so unprofessional.
  23. Thanks JulieW, I needed a bit of support - I've just sent the feedback saying that teacher's negative comments about ballet dancers made my DS feel uncomfortable so he won't be coming back".
