  1. We have stayed at Premier Inn at on A41 and at The Holiday Inn Aylesbury, both very nice and handy for Tring Park. Max 10 mins away.
  2. Cornishprincess I thought the cut off point for applications is 31st March 2015, it says on the website you can apply up to 9 months AFTER the course has started. Correct me somebody if I'm wrong. Drs
  3. I'm slightly embarassed because I seem to have liked my own post, not sure how I did that;) obviously spending far too long on this forum!
  4. I guess its all our fault for passing on our fantastic genes and producing such gifted and talented children!
  5. I totally agree with you PINTF! Of course we hope our DDs realise their dreams to perform but no matter what I know we did everything we could to help her reach them and so did she. I am confident that the drive and discipline she has gained from her training so far and hopefully over the next three years at Ballet West will stand her in good stead whatever she ends up doing even if its not as the Swan Queen or Clara.
  6. It would be great if it was 9,000 but after reading on here we presumed the worst case scenario and it would be only 6,000!
  7. Jaylou62 wow these courses sound fantastic! I wish they had such things at local colleges when I was young. Best of luck to your DDs it sounds like they will have a fantastic time!
  8. Oh dear afab, sorry to hear your news but I heard that its very difficult to audition and so much competition.
  9. Muminaspin I would say that 16 is very young to give up on the dream. My niece has been at vocational college sine she was 21, she finishes this year having qualifications in teaching. I know of plenty of girls/boys who have gone to performance art colleges after A'levels. There are lots of university courses and this could also lead anywhere such as teaching, small performance groups etc. I had a friend at dancing school who auditioned for a small company and got the job without even going to vocational school. She travelled around the World performing and even though this was not the Royal Ballet or a big famous company she was happy to just be dancing for a living. Of course if your DD feels that she does not want to continue then of course she must do what is right for her but I think its very sad just to give up now when she is so young. Just because she does not get into one of the big schools does not mean she won't ultimately be able to have a career in dance.
  10. There is also a pool with slides and currenty pools in Aylesbury. Non DS and I spent a morning there last year when DD was at Tring summer school. Also there is a national trust park up the road which is lovely to walk or bike in (if you can bring your bikes). The name escapes me at the moment, had a lovely walk there when DD was at her Tring Park 6th form audition in February.
  11. I say go for it! Its never to late to start again. I took a break from ballet for a few years, went back to it and ended up going to performing arts college, so if you have ability it doesnt go away , you just have to work that bit harder to catch up. good luck! Dramascientist
  12. Wow this forum is amazing isn't it, even good ballet schools all over the world!
  13. When my mum was a professional dancer she was in sleeping beauty in a theatre where the principal male dancer had a dressing room upstairs from the stage and a lift to get down. One day they were all"sleeping" waiting for the prince to come when a whisper went round the "sleeping" inhabitants of the castle that the prince was stuck in the lift! You can imagine the difficulty trying to look like you were sleeping whilst having hysterics!
  14. Littleballerina I actually have tears running down my face at your story!! LOL:)
  15. Ooh I will tell my mum and sister there will be a new shop in Chester Trudi, they will be interested to know for their students! Good luck with the shop and the opening on Saturday! Dramascientist
  16. Forgot to say glad I could be of help to you too Afab!
  17. Madhatter I actually spoke to somebody at the Scottish agency and they did not mention the nationality of the parents since we have permanent residency abroad we fall into the same category, ie we are considered "Eu" parents.
  18. Hi Madhatter we are also abroad so have been looking into this. If your DD is resident in an EU country and has been there for the last 3 years she can apply as an EU student. However, she can only get Fees for this, no mainenance. If she has been resident in the UK at all, ie. if you have claimed child benefit for her she can apply as English and get fees and maintenance. If she applies as an EU student and needs a loan to help with maintenance she can apply to banks in your country of residence since as long as she has been there for three years she has the same rights to student finance as the citizens of that country. If she has been awarded a DADA then she has the same rights as all EU citizens ie. it is no different than if she was living in the UK so depending in the household income she may be awarded maintnence or not but only if the income is below70k. If she is going to a college in Scotland and has been resident outside the UK for longer than three years she will again get fees but just like Scottish students she does not need to pay them back. Phew! I hope this helps. Dramascientist
  19. Bankruptmum my DD has had trouble with her hips because she is very turned out it was due to weakness caused by the hyper extension. It has improved as she has gotten older and has gained strength. Physio definitely helped so I should get it looked at asap. Hope this helps Dramascientist
  20. My mother had a student a few years ago who was on the reserve list and then got in, it does happen!
  21. Good luck to those at the Hammond funding auditions today (sixth form) and later on in the week for lower school. Glad the trauma is over for us but thinking of those who are there, especially those who auditioned with my DD. Dramascientist
  22. Oh but WL is lovely to do just to be in the places where all those people trained, thats what was so thrilling for my DD!
