  1. I have to say having been at The Hammond last Monday the staff were very calm or at least portrayed being calm about the inspection to come. As a teacher myself I was impressed at their level of focus on the auditioning DCs considering that the inspection must have been weighing heavily on their minds..... or maybe they are just all really good actors!
  2. Hi Sugarplums mum, We were at Hammond last Monday and after the parents bit I drove into the town centre by 11.00, about 15 mins driving so I would say 10.30ish finish would be about right. Tell her not to worry about the singing, my DD felt she messsed up her first song but still went through to the afternoon. She said everybody was very nice and I was impressed by the warm atmosphere in the school. Good luck to your DD and tell her to enjoy her day. Dramascientist
  3. Wow Jaylou62 how are you coping with two of them! Good luck to both for their remaining auditions and fingers crossed that you get good news from the ones already done. Phew what a rollercoaster!
  4. Sixth form! She used to be all about the ballet but recently she has tended more towrds MT so she is attracted to The Hammond because of their common first year for both MT and dance.
  5. Thanks everyone! I had completely forgotten about cost of parking aaaaaah. No I must keep calm! I'll keep you posted!
  6. I'm sitting here reading everyones posts getting more and more nervous. DD and I are off to the UK tomorrow night for The Hammond on Monday and Ballet West on Tuesday! I am a wreck already luckily DD seems more calm apart from being a little more of a snappy teenager than usual. I have been so happy to read of your DD's success katymac and all the others, I just hope DD has something they are looking for. Luckily I've got plenty of driving to do to take my mind off the auditions and at least its a couple of days off work in the UK, shopping in Chester on Monday, just hoping DD gets through the morning selection so I will have the afternoon too! Ho hum, is that the sound of my knees knocking together?
  7. Yes, that's what we thought too!
  8. My DD and I laughed a lot, I hope he did't lose his job!
  9. Ally158 I would say go for it! I had a friend at Laines who only started ballet when he was 19! He went on to a successful career dancing in pantos, on cruise ships and in the west end, if thats where you want to head then don't let a few potential giggling gilrls stop you! Good luck and let us kbow how you get on, Dramascientist
  10. I think any type of dance is fine, my DD did a" modern ballet" number and was offered a place for 5th form dance last year so I really think it is acceptable as long as the number is danced with feeling and shows musicality etc. Hope this sets your mind at rest Lifeafterballet.
  11. Not quite sure what you mean Katymac, jazz comments for an audition or an exam?
  12. Sore shins often means you are not plieing deeply enough when jumping. DS
  13. Good luck to your DD Katymac you must be wrung out and its far from over yet!
  14. Oh I do feel sorry for you Munchkin16! My DD went through this last year and it really knocked her for six and made her question her ability to succeed. She has a new teacher this year and she is going from strength to strength so if you really learnt a lot from this visiting teacher and really enjoyed her class it might be the right time to maybe find out where she teaches and speak with her about possibly switching. If you feel diheartened now leaving it might make it worse, it certainly did with my DD and my DH and I regret not doing something sooner because my DD ended up very unhappy. Good luck with it all dramascientist
  15. Katymac have you heard any results from your DDs auditions yet, did they give you any indication about how long you will have to wait? Dramascientist
  16. Best of luck to her Katymac, try not to worry too much!
  17. Ahh I don't remember it saying anything about an interview in DDs letter I will have to have another look at home this evening!
  18. I was going to reccomend swimming too! It definitely builds stamina, I swim a lot and can out dance much younger students!
  19. Oh the poor thing aimejordan1 though I am sure they would have been impressed with her strength of character to carry on despite the pain. Best wishes for her in Jan!
  20. Congratulations To your DDs DTadmin and Dancing2003! Do you have funding too?
  21. Sorry folks don't want to make you feel bad but DD is 5'7 and gets about a foot off the floor when she jumps! I don't know where she gets it from though I certainly couldn't jump like that!
  22. I would say characterise but dont dance ie. "act the part" of the song and communicate with the audience but I belive it would be too much to dance. Also takes a huge amount of breathe control to sing and dance together!
