  1. Also The Hammond isnt for two weeks so don't panic yet!
  2. Swanprincess having just run the audition gauntlet with DD I have to say that all the dancers we saw were strong and healthy. I do not think I saw one stick thin girl. My DD was offered places at every school she auditioned at and she is a strong and healthy dancer. She is slim and elegant, certainly not like some of the painfully thin girls you see on you tube at some Russian schools. I spoke with every school about nutrition and their provision of nutritional advice and every one of them was aware of problems which may arise and provided support. In fact in the words of one school's teacher " the stick thin idea of a dancer is so passee now, professional companies want strong, mature dancers". As a scientist I would reccomend that you read a little bit about how the food you eat is used by your body and this will help you see the importance of eating a healthy diet, look after your body ,like somebody said, it is your tool. Your youth and health and joy of dance makes you beautiful, try to believe it, be good to yourself. Wishing you luck Dramascientist
  3. Hammond funding audition is a ballet class then a musical theatre workshop which I imagine will be both singing and acting. Hope this helps!
  4. Congratulations to your DD Pastel, if by some small chance she doesn't make it to Central after finals there is also Ballet West who audition late too. DD was offered a place and it is lovely there and so safe and homely.
  5. I am with you on that one re the cost since we are abroad too. DD was invited to the sixth form funding at Tring Park today but we didn't go because DD decided it wasnt her favourite so it would not have been worth it.
  6. Good point along for the ride, I thought that too but was worried I had got it wrong!
  7. Last year My DD was offered a place even though she did not qualify for MDS so yes you can go without funding but I would contact the school ASAP if you can afford it because of the bed situation.
  8. Wow Picturesinthefirelight, this is fascinating, I will tell DD!
  9. Well she also has offers from The Legat School of Dance, Ballet West and The Hammond so we will go for one of these if the funding works out. She realises how lucky she has to have a choice. She didn't want to do Elmhurst because she wanted singing and music opportunities too, for some reason she felt Elmhurst wasn't for her? Who knows what goes through their minds!!!,!
  10. Thanks Afab though Tring does seem a little disorganised this year from what I have read on here, some people were waiting for weeks then very short notice before the audition, crazy! I am sure you have experience of the huge increase in flight costs close to the day of travel since you are also abroad. DD did not have Tring at the top of her list this year (so funny how they can change their minds so quickly, it was the end of her life because she couldnt go because of funding this time last year!) so we did not feel it was worth paying out the extortionate price if she would prefer to go somewhere else. If it had been her first choice we would have gone. Did your DD go to Tring this year?
  11. Sorry to hear your news Madhouse but I agree it is great experience, certainly my DD didn't want some of her audition classes to end, onwards and upwards as my mum always says!
  12. Dance2013 I think my DD will not be going to Tring or to the funding audition because we just cant get there due to the short notice between the results and funding audition. One place closer for your DD on the waiting list! Hope you have good news soon! Dramascientist
  13. Mad House, your post made me chuckle...."Emily the audition" I'm going to use this as a euphemism from now on!
  14. Well I don't think we can even go to the funding audition! Because they have given us a weeks notice the cost of flights is astronomical and this combined with the fact that she might not even get the funding, I think we will have to go with one of the other options. I have written to the school but of course there is nobody there this week, why did they not think of this when they planned the day. Luckily it is not DDs favourite choice!
  15. How did the central auditions go today? Hope everybody had a good and successful day!
  16. Wow thats great Danceanddrama123, congratulations to your DD, from what I have read here they can often see what we cant so your DD must be a very talented drama student!
  17. Its a yes for for finals for my DD for the dance course but a no for MT, though the no for MT was expected, DD just wanted to have a go to see what happened. We are so proud that after a terrible year last year when she believed that she was "rubbish" ( her words) due to comments made by her then teacher, now she has tangible yesses from all 4 places she has applied to, so she is beginning to believe in herself again. Thanks to everybodys support here I have just about kept sane through it all. Congratulations to all the other yesses and I am so sorry for the nos, but from my experience you will get through it. I am a great believer in things happen for a reason and we are definitely proof of that. DD was so unhappy last year after having to turn down a place a Tring because she didn't qualify for MDS because we live abroad but now she says it was meant to be because otherwise she would not have seen the other great places. Now we have some hard thinking to do!
  18. Oh dear Madhouse! so sorry and hugs to your DD
  19. Not only DD is exhausted but me too! I am finding it such an emotional roller coaster I feel like my head is about to explode so I have no idea how our children can hold it together. We are lucky enough to have got good news from three of the four (just like everybody else we are waiting on Tring) but now we have to do it all again for funding auditions with collection of financial statements and the like, I wish I could turn off my brain to get a full nights sleep! How is everybody else coping?
  20. We were there this Monday and the head told us that it may be delayed because of half ter!
  21. Thanks Madhouse! 2Dancersmum I will tell DD about yor DDs friend's place, was it the girl who came with another friend? DD is asking. Thanks Dramascientist
  22. I agree with Chaperone my DD is also 5'7" so the taller the better! Also genetically speaking taller is often thought of as stronger in evolutionary terms...... sorry my scientist part coming out for a change!
  23. Its okay I have spoken to the school and because she is a British National there is no registration fee, phew! Thanks for all your help everyone, its great to be able to ask other's opinions! Dramascientist
  24. Thanks people! Maybe its 300 for us because we are overseas??? I guess I need to ring up and ask! Did your DDs friend also get offered a place 2Dancersmum? My DD will be interested to hear, I will let you know what happens when I speak with them.
  25. We are very happy that DD has been offered a place at Hammond but she could only go with funding. Does anybody know whether you lose the registration fee of 300 pounds if you dont take up the offer, (DH is baulking at the cost!). Obviously we wont know about funding until after the funding audition and she still has some other auditions next week where she may be offered funding but doesnt get it at The Hammond, oh its a mine field already! Thanks Dramascientist
