tinydancer Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 How many hours dance a week do students do at vocational schools?
Nutcracker-x Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 I think it depends entirely or the age of the dancer and the school they are at. For lower school students and those doing a levels, they also have to fit in academic studies as well as their amount of dancing. I'm sure other forum members have an idea as some have dcs at vocational schools. 1
swanprincess Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 At Ballet West our timetable changes every week but so far it has been between 16 and 25 hours of classes a week x 4
primrose Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Lower school tend to spend either the entire morning or afternoon doing dance lessons, sometimes early evening. This also includes Saturday mornings. 2
Farawaydancer Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 From what I remember from looking at the y7 timetable for elmhurst it's about 18-20 hours I think. 1
Happymum Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 From what I know for lower school at Elmhurst it's 4 hours a day and at Tring it's 3,5 hours a day.
Fiz Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 I agree with Petalviolet, you look great. I hope you are having a wonderful time at Ballet West, SP! 4

Katymac Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 DD is doing MT so a bit different - she has 31.5 hrs of Dance & 9 hrs of singing/acting 2
Harwel Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Tring year 10 and 11 do approx 24 hours of dance a week.
sarahw Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Lovely photo SP - you have grown up! In a nice way... 2
tinydancer Posted October 25, 2015 Author Posted October 25, 2015 Thank you for your replies. So a child who is not at vocational school would need to do 3 hrs a night after school plus Saturday classes to keep up! I would be interested to know how many non vocational kids are successful in securing places at upper schools.
balletmadgirl Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 I think once children 'get into the swing' of the extra hours at vocational school they soon catch up with the others who have been used to it.My daughter would have loved to do more hours dancing before she started at senior vocational school. It was not possible financially for us to allow her more lessons or logistically to apply for associate classes. Â When there are other children in the family to consider it restricts what can be done, to make it fair and not cause jealousy! 2

tinydancer Posted October 26, 2015 Author Posted October 26, 2015 Well donre to your DD for securing a place at a vocational upper school without all the hours of training that vocational kids get. Non vocational school children must be at a huge disadvantage when auditioning for upper schools. 1
