  1. Wishing you good luck to you and your daughter in the future.I am not able to read that blog, maybe because I don't use Instagram? so not sure of all your daughter's difficulties. My daughter didn't manage to continue in dance either, after starting at Upper School level. It was difficult for us all to cope with because it was all she had ever wanted to do.Unfortunately she could just not cope with the mental stresses involved, which also has a knock on effect on physical aspects.I'm sure this would be the case further on in her dancing life too. She now does a ballet class for fun/exercise each week so hasn't dropped it completely. It still makes me sad when I think about what 'could have been'

  3. I would just like to add that with Ballet West you can take out the student loan for £6000 tuition fees and maintenance loan.If however your child drops out of the course part way through the year you are no longer entitled for the student loans. This leaves a shortfall and Ballet West expect you to pay the remaining balance to them for tuition fees and accommodation for the rest of the year.
  4. Just wanted to add Cara (and Klaris) sorry that your daughters have decided against persuing a dance career. It also crossed my mind Cara in NZ that your DD might change her mind yet again over the next year or two,so maybe be prepared. I still like to follow everyone's posts on here too and wish you all the best.
  5. Done on behalf of my daughter !
  6. What a lovely post and explanation.I like the analogy of a 'rollercoaster'. My daughter also decided against a career in dance after all her childhood dreams that 'it was all she ever wanted to do'.After finally starting the course at Ballet West last year she realised she didn't have the mental (or physical) stamina to continue after only one term.We have had quite a difficult year with her deciding which path to go on since then. I think I was maybe more upset than her that she didn't achieve her dream but in some ways it is a relief, especially as you know, getting into a vocational school is the beginning of many hurdles to pass.I am still glad she gave it a go otherwise she would always have had regrets for not trying. She has now enrolled on an Art and Design course at our local college with the possibility of going into costume design in the future
  7. Update to say these have all been sold now,so no longer available.Thank you.
  8. All shoes are unused.Bought surplus to requirement for my daughter who is no longer dancing Grishko 2007 Pointe shoes Size 5.5 Width XXXX Medium shank. Also some ribbon and covert elastic £28 Bloch Split sole soft jazz shoes, black leather lace-up Size 5.5 uk size (Bloch sizing 8) £18 Bloch Tap shoes,Technotap, black leather lace-up Size 5.5 UK size (Bloch sizing 8) £28 Price includes postage to UK
  9. My DD is a size 5 shoe so we ordered the Medium size bootee which fits fine, also gives a little extra space for wearing over ballet shoes.I think the 'small' would definitely have been too small.
  10. My daughter used to attend Murilova ballet school. She has now left to attend Ballet West in Scotland full time. She was taught by Sandra McAuliffe the principle of Murilova, and loved her time there.Sandra has now retired but the school has continued with Tina Marsh(an old scholol pupil) now running it. The classes have changed venue and are now being held in Colehill, near Wimborne. There is a Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Murilova-Ballet-School-1174556975894588/?fref=ts,not sure if that link will work!
  11. Sorry to hear of your daughter's struggles.Have sent you a pm.
  12. My daughter has a Student Finance loan (and some maintenance grant) that covers the cost of her accommodation fees at Upper School. She is classed as a student when doing an HND.
  13. I think once children 'get into the swing' of the extra hours at vocational school they soon catch up with the others who have been used to it.My daughter would have loved to do more hours dancing before she started at senior vocational school. It was not possible financially for us to allow her more lessons or logistically to apply for associate classes. When there are other children in the family to consider it restricts what can be done, to make it fair and not cause jealousy!
  14. My daughter's old ballet teacher suggested cleaning with surgical spirit. We never found it very effective.Generally DD uses Calamine lotion 'smeared' all over the shoes which she prefers, as Bluebird22 said, it is meant to blend in with the tights and give an illusion of a longer leg! Personally I am always most put out after spending a lot of money on new shoes to have them immediately desecrated not only with this but also sewing on of ribbons, and bashing on whatever is available to break them in! Such is life!
  15. Yes you are right Sarah, glad that we could visit the school too. Miracle - my daughter is actually just finished AS levels. She auditioned at three places in YR 11 but was unsuccessful so decided to stay at a local college to do A levels. Her aim was always to do dancing somehow, and although it would really be better to complete the A levels I know her heart would be elsewhere!
