  1. Thought this would be a good place to ask. Can anyone recommend a good storage box for hair things? Preferably with divided sections for hair elastics, open pins, grips and hairnets. Fed up with hairpins around the house and want to get dd a bit organised!
  2. Taxi, just tried to PM you but it didn't work!
  3. Has anyone's dd or ds done EYB in Woking before? Where was the rehearsal venue? I'm trying to work out the logistics of whether dd can do it!
  4. Are they going to build on that area of grass next to the studios? That would be a shame.
  5. Spanner (or anyone else) - I've always wondered about the lack of toilet facilities. You'd have thought they would have incorporated toilets into their beautiful new studios!
  6. Thought I would get some good advice here! My middle dd has just started tap classes. Like her sister, she's done ballet for a long time but (unlike her sister!) is going off ballet a bit and is more suited to other dance styles. I have found her a lovely class where they do 45 mins each of tap and modern. She's enjoying the modern very much (done a little before) but is finding the tap very hard. The teacher says she'll be fine in the class and it will take a while for her to catch up. However unfortunately she also wants to do a 5 week creative writing course which is on the same night as the dance class. We've been paying per class so far and they are happy for her to start properly in September. Is there anything she can do in the meantime to retain what she's learnt so far so she doesn't go in from scratch again in September? I'm pretty sure it is ISTD.
  7. My dd's going on the 2nd week busymum. She doesn't know anyone either but has boarded at Tring before and had a great time. I'm preparing myself for the prank calls!
  8. My dd going on the second week. I didn't think about friendships tbh, I doubt there will be many doing both weeks will there??
  9. Even if they put his full name and school, can you pinpoint exactly what you would be worried about? So say worst case scenario the picture and article ends on the internet and can be googled, why is that a problem? If you go onto any schools website you'll find names and photos of pupils on their news pages. It's commonplace these days. Think there is an article about my dd about a ballet production she did a few years ago knocking around on google. It wouldn't occur to me to be worried about it. Or am I being naive?
  10. How do you find out about their auditions if they don't have a website?? Do they ever come to the SE of England?
  11. We've got a great wobble board with a maze - you have to get the balls into the centre using your feet! Can't remember where we bought it, online somewhere, google 'maze wobble board'
  12. Well I'm sorry if I offended anyone. I was a little surprised at bangorboy's comments, I am certainly not one for doing what I like without any regard for others, I do have some manners! As I said, I did look behind me first to consider whether I would obstruct their view and I really did think that if I did, someone would tap me on the shoulder and ask me to sit back which of course I would have done.
  13. I did actually wonder about this and did look behind me at the start. It was heavily banked and the way we were leaning meant our heads were close to the rail and our bodies quite flat if that makes sense. It didn't look like their view was obstructed. Surely people behind would have asked us not to if it obstructed their view?
  14. Both the dds and I enjoyed it but we agreed it wasn't one of our favourite ballets. The second half was so beautiful and totally agree about the mad scene - so convincing! I wasn't sure what our seats would be like as they were restricted view at the side of the amphitheatre. But we were pleasantly surprised - we were in Row A so we could lean over. Two of the seats were £22 each and one was only £15. I wasn't sure why but it was because there was a pillar which restricted your legroom somewhat. But it didn't bother me at all - not bad for £15! Out of interest, where are the best places to sit without paying a fortune?
  15. I'm taking my dds to see Giselle tomorrow night! So excited, I've never seen this ballet before.
  16. sarahw, at my surgery the money went straight to the GP! I needed a letter for something recently, not ballet related. He said it would be 25 pounds. When I collected they asked me to make the cheque out directly to the GP which I thought was a bit strange. And the letter was really brief and didn't include much of the detail we had discussed.
  17. No, only one matinee on Saturday. The rest are evenings starting at 7.30pm. Not sure of a finish time but I'm pretty sure it will be after 10pm. Dd is 11. So would she be allowed to do all of them?
  18. This isn't strictly about ballet but I thought I would get some good advice from you knowledgable lot! Dd loves drama and has just auditioned succesfully for a part in Oliver with a local amateur company. They originally said they were going to double cast the children but they didn't have enough so all the children cast will be expected to appear in all 6 performances, Tuesday - Friday evening and 2 on Saturday. I have since found out that children appearing in amateur shows (ie not being paid) do not have the same protection as professional performers. For example children appearing in West End shows only do a few shows per week and not on consecutive nights, there are really strict rules in place to protect the children. It seems that amateur companies don't have to adhere to the rules and can basically do what they like with regard to number of performances. Older dd has done EYB quite a few time but I think they look after the children very well - only 3 performances at the weekend and school absence is kept to a minimum. I personally feel that doing a run of shows is too much for young children especially during term time when they are expected to be at school during normal hours. My dd hasn't done LCB but I think they also do a lot of performances. How do the children cope with it? I know they probably all run on adrenaline but it just strikes me as not quite right if professional performances are so strict for good reason.
  19. That's really sad! They're a British institution...like Woolworths!
  20. Thank you. I found some made my Starlight on dance and leisurewear's site.
  21. Thank you. Do you buy from Bloch online or another company?
  22. Does anyone know if you can get jazz shoes without laces? I need 2 pairs, both my younger dds can't do laces and it's a pain doing them myself! One is size 12/13, the other size 1/2
