  1. Have you got a full organisation chart to hand to make that assessment? some of these posts are advertised as Managers , but a 40k salary for a central London based role is really not that high ( it's a little more than the top increment band 5 / lower increment basic rate for band 6 under agenda for change in 'inner London' - but in both cases that excludes any allowance for weekend and evening work )
  2. also Premier inn near the station ( quite new)Premier inn whitehall rd and the Travelodge nearest the Station travelodge Leeds Central ( which IMO is preferable to vicar lane as no rooms at vicar lane have a bath ... but that's a #TBRfamily thing ) also the Jury's Inn https://www.jurysinns.com/hotels/leeds can actually be same price or even marginally cheaper (esp if you sign up to their rewards scheme) than the central Travelodges and Premier inns ... (as for what it's like I know other #TBRfamily members rate it)
  3. and when they do it's usually <1 week from what i can recall ... also i do think they have had their fingers burnt in the past ...
  4. CAT https://northernballet.com/academy/professional-training/centre-for-advanced-training CSB - https://www.centralschoolofballet.co.uk/ Tindall in this context refers to Kenneth Tindall, Director (Digital) and resident Choreographer at Northern Ballet; a CSB Graduate and former Premier Dancer at northern Bateman - referring to Hannah Bateman who retired Last year from Northern as Princiapl Soloist and is a CSB Graduate Dixon - refers to Ashley Dixon a current Principal soloist at Northern and CSB grad Christopher Gable was one of the Founders of CSB in the early 1980s and was also Artistic Director of Northern Ballet fro mthe late 1980s to his early death in 1998 - it is only within the past coupe lf years with Pippa Moore's retirement from performing ( but a move to other artistic Duties witihn NB ) that the links to Gable- era appointed Dancers at Northern has been broken ...
  5. Northern Ballet School in Manchester is an 'Upper school ' offering the 'normal' levle 6 Trinity Diploma ( with either a Calssical ballet focus or Jazz/Theatre focus) the Academy of Northern Ballet in Leeds currently has no 16- 18 offer 9 and hasn't historically had one the subtext is go to CSB given the Gable connection ( also the Tindall / Bateman /Dixon connections there as well - but it;s not to say that CSb predominates - as a quick look at the bios page will tell ) - certainly the daughter of a teacher friend of mine who is currently going into Y11 and is Northern CAT has CSB as the top of her list ) as CAT is y6/ Y7 -Y11 and the Graduate program is for those with a level 6 award
  6. You can start taking class at any age - although 15 may pose a bit of a problem if there isn't a specific ' teen beginner' class near you and teachers are wary of having a ' still at school' age person in their adult classes ( usual slight overreaction to safeguarding stuff applies). there are plenty of people who start taking class in their 20s, 30s, 40 or 50s who who dance to a decent level and perform as amateurs as has been said a touch of realism my be needed as to any aspirations to dance with a Major ballet company , but there are people who start ( or restart having given up as a little one) in their mid teens who do get into Contemporoary and/or MT/ triple threat professional training
  7. also it can be argued that these dancers are there to 'provide service' not there for training or practise placement ... the subtley of this argument may be lost on the readers who don;t have a health professional background though
  8. which inherently comes with a plie ... it is in the definition or releve vs the eleve (rise) ... Complete side note ( interesting exercise which iirc comes from PBT- to make you think about releve 5th + weight placement is to drill the releve 5th it from a a tendu devant en fondue so all the work is done by the 'back' (supporting ) leg because the working leg is completely unloaded at the start rasther an for 'safety' tending to put the weight more equally in both legs starting from fifth ...
  9. Northern has a decent range of height among the men of the company , where it has to be noted that mr Nixon did have a bit of a thing for his 'little china dolls' ( be they European - like Pippa Moore and Antionette Brooks -Daw or East Asian) ... and it's become more noticeable since Hannah Bateman and Vicky Goldsmith (Sibson) retired from performing - however inthe MacMillan tribute troiple bill ( but unsure of whether any arm twistign went on - there was a t least one performance of las mermanas whenre Zenadia Yanowsky guested ... obviously the new AD will have to work at least initially with existing staffing and any appointments made this summer ...
  10. do you mean the workforce outside the performing arts ? the workforce where even the Real Living wage' is no longer enough to recruit and retain at entry level jobs ?
  11. also pressure to sign away those rights an op -out the UK had when still EU members and which won't be going away however there comes the issue of pay rates for excessively long days under the control of the organisation if dancers are either workers or employees ( defintion of worker - https://www.gov.uk/employment-status/worker - which is how casuals and agency workers can be treated differently to Substantives - where substantive in tthis case means meeting the defintion of an employee - https://www.gov.uk/employment-status/employee ) very interestingly the business i current work for ( not in show biz) has a three way split among employees in how things go down - there are the 'Corporate staff' and then there are the supply chain and contact centres who are broadly Unionised but more importantly there is a Union recognition agreement in place for collective consultation ) and retail staff who are by and large not unionised and do not have a recognised Union if they are individually union members) interestingly the contact centres and supply chain have seen TUPEs with recognition of Union - due to need for investment that the parent company doesn't want on their balance sheet if this is straying too far please tell me to shut up - but as a someone who has been a Trades union member since the age of 19 ( and union rep for 3 + years) it is something i do care about quite a lot
  12. the criteria to Join equity is on their website and it;s actually surprising 'low' compared to days of yore - one Equirty contract ever or evidence of 500 gbp worth of paid work in a sector https://www.equity.org.uk/about/how-to-join/ also the route in via student membership is fairly wide - as it appears that those doing level 3 at local providers could join that way ...
  13. I think you do not understand how Equity works certainly the impression get from my friends who are equity members due to deriving a decent proprtion of their income from performing are no where near as dismissive as with any trades union it;s the members activity that supports the wider cause and regardless of how good the Officers and Representatives are without members a union is poor and doesn;t have the impact through weight of numbers ( disclaimer here I am an Accredited Trades Union Rep for a non-affiliated Trade Union in the Industry i derive most of my income from )
  14. wow ! please, go back and re read the OP ...
  15. yep there is always the risk that a company can 'disappear up it's own posterior' even with others snapping at your heels ...
  16. probably not well enough versed on the various Repetories or have other interests company / dancer / director wise
  17. Leanne is a total sweetie last fitting i had with hewre lastesd aobut 2 and a half hours but that was because we went a scenic tour of the entire range and ended up with the Maya 1 SE / Leanne shoe
  18. remember a freudian slip is when you say one thing and mean your mother 😉
  19. absolutely the lighting for the filmed version of Casanova was fabulous and the way shape was lit in the Stan and Audrey was fab
  20. that's Leanne the UK's Grishko master Fitter
  21. if you mean Leanne she;s fairly flexible on location but her home base in Essex
  22. YD's projects are great fun and great opportunity ( aren't they @sophie_rebecca - as both Soph and I were involved with Performing gender /Gender moves although Scheduling didn;t work for Soph to be in the final piece )
  23. does that make Kenneth Tindall the second ' ballet Dark Knight' called Kenneth then ( the first being Mac Millan)? thinking about the lighting for Shape of Sound in particular ... @Jan McNulty Your thoughts ?
  24. but Centres for Advanced Training are a VOcational School level of intensity and exposure to dance training
  25. except of course CAT is 'lower school' vocational experience especially for the older students ...
