  1. certainly it does happen in some places ... as an Adult learner, i've been in classes where the AD of the organsiation has been doing an observation of the teacher , and as adults there;s a constant dialogue with our teachers some of whom also teach YP - the power dynamic in adult class is different to with kids ... also a lot of the adults who take class have academic grounding to back up their views ( as many of use teach, assess, mentor and QA in our day jobs )

  3. also referred to on day 2 or 3 of TBR as the ' 84 knee salute'
  4. you have me confused with someone else i have'nt been to a class in London since 3rd October and last time i did Anna's pineapple class was 1st OCTOBER
  5. If you don;t EVER fall in the studio you are not trying hard enough
  6. i still suck at this after taking class for 5+ years ... (although a number of teachers i know will tell me off for saying i suck ) it's a work in progress , eventually things either fall into place or you start having to engineer yourself into the position of needing to remember it ( yes row 1 at the end so you only have the mildest clue in your peripheral vision + any cues from the teacher)
  7. because Blockchain ... i think NFTs may end up as a niche thing or just fizzle out ...

  9. i really do love Nina's Classes in person - between Her and Anna Du Boisonnand Denzil Bailey they got me over an imposter syndrome hump in my learning curve that really didn't need to be there ( although i know why a certain other London based teacher likes to let people think it's there) - but that is ht problem if you are outside of London normally it;s hard to tell where classes are pitched unless you are doing syllabus work ( fortunately l there are some really good classes in the midlands and North - who are pushing their adult dancers as hard and as far as they want to go )
  10. corrections are a gift from the teacher ... the real value is when you have the experience to distill all the corrections you get from different teachers over time in to being an all round dancer rather than someone looking at you at you dance and knowing what syllabus you do even if it;s a free work class in ballet class there is only one thing worse than beign talked about ... NOT being talked about ...
  11. RAD Intermediate is not the class i'd place an absolute beginner in, the barre work in Inter is not straightforward - the deceptively simple exercises are looking for very precise knowledge of the syllabus and the centre work requires a good understanding of fundamental technique - the young people doing Inter as part of their training are usually 13-15 years old and have been dancing for up to 10 years - most of the adult ab-initio or returner after giving up as youngsters I know who have done Inter have been dancing as Adults for 3 - 6 years - often taking at least 2 classes a week I'm doing RAD intermediate , as one of my regular classes ( and I averaged 4-5 hours a week pre lockdowns and i'm back to that again now - mainly ballet but also one class 3/4 weeks out of 6 of quite 'technique' based contemporary ) - and started the RAD Intermediate work 4 years into my ballet journey ( albeit with at least half a year missed due to lockdowns) after covering most of what is in IF in open / free work classes and beginner pointe - and still with quite a few things to 'learn' from the Inter syllabus ( e,g, double pirouettes en dedans - and thanks to lock down relearning doubles en dehors as i was just aobut getting them secure if not pretty prior to lockdown 1) you will suck in the centre for at least 4 years different parts the centre you'll get better at quickly some people pick up pirouettes quickly , others adage , others still petit allegro ( my nemesis) and others still Grand allegro - give me some big bold grand allegro and i'm a pig in Muck ... If you feel that youare coping in in an RAD intermediate syllabus class you are probably better than you think you are... sometimes it can be really useful to be the less experienced in a harder class - certainly soem ofthe best classes i've had have been in my regular 'Advanced' class where i'm definitely in the bottom thrid, or when i've been in london and taken Intermediate levle classes where the teacher has got carried away ( yes you Mr Denzil Bailey )
  12. and in sailing the 'Optimist (a class of junior dinghy ) Dad ' is a running joke / steroetype / meme like the dance mum
  13. it is my understanding that Y8 places depend on attrition / assessing out of those who entered at y7 hence the difficulty
  14. Until Rojo decides it's not newsworthy any more , as she has done with other click worthy topics
  15. there is that ot consider ... on top of the fact you've gone from being a big fish in a small pond at your primary school to being a very small fish in a bigger pond ( although vocational schools aren;t facing their Y7 with being in a year of 150 -300 students like many state secondaries)
  16. the best classical dancer may not be the best dance actor and vice versa ...
  17. there's a young man in West Yorkshire who is a year 8 now, he went to ?elmhurst? last year and decided to withdraw - fortunately he's able to dance with AoNB CAT ... but he doeswant a career if the young man in the OP is adamant he does not want a career in ballet , then coming away may well be the best option, he can still dance for fun and there are always options at 14 and 16 or one of the more numerous contemporary orientated CATs ( which still have good ballet tuition )
  18. exactly this , with conventional' Unis the waters tend to get muddied somewhat as different sites within the the HEI's estate will offer different contract lengths , where for smaller institutions that's not the case - also i doubt the smaller institutions get the 'alternative' use of the short contract accomodation some of the other Institutions do ( especially those where the 38 week accomodation are required ot clear their room over the Vacs so it can be used for conference / toursits B+B purposes)
  19. depends on the accomodation contract same as any other Student accomodation...
  20. wasn't this the case with that place north of the border which we do not mention ?
  21. GP s do not hold the budgets , CCGs do unless it is nationally commissioned service (AQP muddies the waters bit ) one of the reasons referrals go through GPs is coordination of care the NHS does not urn on private model, despite over two thirds of patient interactions being, and always having been since 1948 , undertaken by private providers under NHS bulk contracts
  22. which is why the DSM -5 is rarely used in the Developed World , except by cranks who wish to pathologise entirely normal variation in the human condition
