  1. Sarasota Ballet at the ROH: a People’s Command Performance! In addition to some of the upcoming season’s works, they could add the recent revival of Apparitions - the highlight of my last trip to Sarasota, about three years ago.
  2. Additionally, they’re bringing back Ashton’s Varii Capricci for the tour to NYC in August, before the main season begins. 🎉
  3. Sarasota just announced its upcoming season. Good news for Ashton lovers…incl the company premiere of Dante Sonata after the originally-planned showing was canceled due to COVID. Also Rhapsody, Facade, etc. I’ll be traveling there again after a year of saving money. 🥳 https://www.sarasotaballet.org/2022-–-2023-season-overview
  4. Having pre-ordered this expensive tome, I now received an email from Amazon that publication is delayed, without providing a new date. So I checked amazon.com and saw this: This title will be released on August 16, 2022. Oh, phooey!
  5. Happy that Ashton’s Cinderella will return. Sorry about the trend towards modern. That’s supposed to save ballet?
  6. Following-up on the above: As TODAY (4 April 2022) marks Pierre Lacotte’s 90th birthday anniversary, what better way to celebrate than to watch his ballet reconstructions (informed revivals), such as NATHALIE? In addition to searching through the above list, here’s a direct link to NATHALIE starring Maximova & Isaev: https://www.culture.ru/live/movies/1921/natali-ili-shveicarskaya-molochnica (in two parts - серия1 серия2 113 minutes total)
  7. I’m not sure if this is the right thread in which to post this news but here we go! Very recently, many Russian archival films of a cultural nature have been made available, for free, on the “Sovetskoye Televidie Gosteleradiofond” YouTube channel. These include many rare treasures of dance/ballet, among them the complete 1970s CREATION OF THE WORLD (aka ADAM AND EVE) by Kasatkina/Vasiliov to Andrei Petrov’s score, danced by Moscow Classical Ballet, starring Maximova & Isaev: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=SmlPgPX8Ey8 There’s also Vladimir Vasiliev’s MOZART SYMPHONY 40; Lacotte’s NATHALIE (also starring Maximova & Isaev); a rare Bolshoi SLEEPING BEAUTY w/ Semenyaka as Lilac; etc. Happy hunting in this performing arts sub-channel (playlist) within Sovetskoye Televidie Gosteleradiofond: https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL40OiiJw6-ge3-1A-gBPUlRwjEhIaB3dD
  8. This happens a lot at ABT. Most of Ratmansky’s works at that troupe are co-productions, e.g., Harlequinade with Australia, The Seasons with San Francisco, Sleeping Beauty with La Scala. It rarely happens, if ever, at NYCB.
  9. There goes my federal income-tax refund! I remember that Wiley’s previous tomes were almost as expensive, for 1980s and ‘90s pricing. They’re real treasures, however.
  10. The third of the Joffrey Academy streams just went online - Derick McCoy’s Road to Flames - https://m.youtube.com/c/TheJoffreyBallet The fourth (final) one - Audrey Baran’s Porcelain, should come tomorrow.
  11. The Joffrey Ballet is releasing, on its YouTube channel, four new works performed by its trainees from the Joffrey Academy of Dance-Chicago. Two were released last week and two others this coming Thursday & Friday…so bookmark the Joffrey’s YouTube channel to not miss these. Direct links to the two new ballets already released on this Winning Works 2022 series: Edson Barbosa’s On the Same Boat https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=AV1HulSj-z8 Taylor Carrasco’s Not Now, But Now https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CYhxlWE4dtw Information on all four ballets: https://joffrey.org/behind-the-scenes/stream-the-joffrey-s-2022-winning-works-program/
  12. Thanks. An entire program consisting of only The Cellist? Maybe it’ll be a new expanded version.
  13. Shame that the female star of the film, Michaela De Prince, isn’t even named! Wow. That smacks of r*****. ..but I’ll shush up for the sake of peace.
  14. Related - Has the premiere of Ratmansky’s recon of Petipa’s Pharaoh’s Daughter (at Mariinsky) also been cancelled? No opening date was ever announced, although I last heard that it would premiere during summer 2022 White Nights. Guess not? 😢
  15. Precisely. That’s why I asked about Liliom.
  16. So sorry to read of Mr. Danton’s passing. May he Rest In Peace.
  17. Veteran US sports journalist, Phil Hersh, may have expressed it best during an interview on the Peacock Streaming Network’s show Olympic Ice: Was Valieva’s sample purposely transported to Stockholm by an old Russian sleigh, moving across the Baltic Sea? Hersh also quipped: Going by these methods, we should learn the results of the figure skating Team Event by 2036.
  18. Just watched it live. Wasn’t it sublime? Lovely performance, so well filmed.…e.g., knowing when to employ close-ups, medium or far distance. All three works are delights. How lucky can we be? p.s. Childs’ Concerto is new to me…packing a punch in 10 minutes.
  19. Today’s the day! Just a reminder of the free livestream from Vienna. Link in the above post. Enjoy.
  20. Les Rendezvous at the ROH with the previous “gates” set & costumes. Reprograming some of the works “lost” due to the spring/summer 2020 cancellations, such as Ratmansky/Chopin Preludes.
  21. Same thing here…I immediately deleted it. Thanks for keeping us safe.
