  1. Evening My daughter had a non union fracture of her sesimoid bone while at Ballet school. It was successfully treated and she graduated and is now a professional dancer. My advice is your sister needs to get an mri scan on her foot and see a consultant/ surgeon that deals with feet and get a 2nd opinion. If she is at vocational school has she got medical insurance? An mri scan will confirm what is causing the pain. Hope this helps.

  12. Dear Mum in a spin My DD is currently at Central school of ballet. There has been talk of Central re-locating for several years but I imagine it is finances and the planning authorities that have brought it to a standstill at the moment... if indeed that is the case. The Paris Gardens site is student accommodation as it has its own website. I have never had a problem where Central is located at the moment. My DD commuted from Hampstead the first year and now resigns in student accommodation in the city. I have been very happy with the faculty at the school and would rather have excellent teaching than fantastic studios/accommodation.
  13. I enjoyed reading your 'Rant' and believe me you are not on your own. Children who venture on the long, hard, disciplined journey of dance are in my opinion very much in control of their lives as it takes a lot of courage to lead a different pathway to everyone else in their academic class at school. They will experience so many different emotions in their teenage years ranging from happiness/ success to extreme sadness/frustration and push themselves to the limit daily with absolutely no help from their academic schools! Juggling GCSE exams and auditions for vocational schools can be very stressful together with teachers not understanding why your DD wants to live home at sixteen, live in London and train to be a dancer instead of doing A levels and university!!
  14. York Dance Assembly ( formerly known as Yorkshire Assembly) is a residential dance summer school over five days Mon 3rd Aug - Fri 7th Aug 2015 at Queen Margaret's school, Escrick. York. Children will be put in groups according to their age and ability. Faculty include ex-professional dancers with live pianists. 15. To pups_mum Another summer school which caters for mostly non-vocational students and includes contemporary and Jazz and is a fun summer school which includes swimming in the indoor swimming pool on site is Yorkshire Assembly which is held at Queen Margaret's school, Escrick, York in early August each year.Students can board or attend on a daily basis and there is a demonstration on the last day which is held in the theatre where parents are invited. This summer school is run by The Yorkshire Ballet Scholarship Centre based in York. Take a look on the website.
  16. When my dd was applying for vocational schools we took the photos at her dance school in the studio. I don't think it really matters. They are looking at the subject not the surroundings. My dd is now at vocational ballet school so it clearly did not matter.I would not worry as they will be looking at your body shape and turnout etc. Good luck with them.
  17. I also attended tutugirl. Fab day. Congratulations to all the dancers who presented themselves very well. The winner was a joy to watch. Such freedom of movement as well as technical ability. Well done.
  18. Morning hellogoodbye May I stress that it is not the norm for children to chat during a lesson when a teacher is teaching. I am sure that you will find a good school. Word of mouth is usually the best advice. Find out where your daughters other friends are going. Audition for an associate class in addition as well as attending a local dance school, It is important for the local school to be a friendly place as well as a good disciplined school. Good luck.
  19. Hi Piccolo. I suggest that you look at all the other wonderful summer schools that are on offer. My DD has attended a number of different summer schools over the years enjoying them all as well as having a family holiday with her brothers which is important for the rest of the family and she is now in a top London ballet vocational school. By doing your research on other summer schools you can organise a summer school for your dd and book a family holiday which in years to come you may regret not having. I found RBS summer school was very costly compared to others on offer who also offer experienced and professional faculty and excellent facilities. Good Luck.
  20. Dear Chloeballet96 I am an RAD and IDTA teacher but qualified as an RAD teacher first. I found when looking for a teaching job that in my area there were more schools teaching the IDTA syllabus than RAD although you will find that a lot of schools will teach the IDTA syllabus and also teach the RAD major exams which I think works very well. As an RAD teacher I contacted IDTA head office and as I had an RAD teaching qualification that enabled me to teach IDTA as well as the two associations have merged. This may be the same the other way round. I hope that this helps.
  21. Dear All Peter and Shannon Parker were beautiful on Got to dance. They are also teachers at Yorkshire ballet Scholar Centre in York where they inspire many dancers. Good luck to them.
  22. Dear All So please all the children had a great time at Yorkshire Assembly. They received fantastic teaching and inspiration from the amazing faculty and I hope that all the parents who watched the end of summer school show were proud of what their child(ren) had achieved over the four days. It is so great to hear the positive feedback that I am reading from this forum and hope that the children will return again next year.
  23. My DD attends Central and shares a room at Student castle with another dancer. Fantastic accommodation and all the bills are included which helps as teenagers are not good at turning off lights etc. There is a sainsburys next door to it which is great and there are alot of Central girls moving there in Sept as well as from other dance schools like Urdang Academy. .From Sept it will work out at £164.50inc each week which is alot but It is very safe and only 2 mins from Aldgate tube station and only few stops to Farringdon tube. My DD now catches the bus as its free with a 16+ oyster card. Last year she was at Hyelm but there has been talk that it is closing next year sometime so check with them about this. Hope this helps.
  24. Just also like to say a positive thing about Central school of Ballet. My DD will be repeating her 2nd year in Sept due to an injury and Central staff have been brilliant in support and aiding her recovery. Injuries do happen along the way in a classical ballet career and being in a caring school while they are dealing with the physical and mental challenges they face is so important. I am just disappointed I wont be watching her at the Platform theatre in July after watching her perform so well last year. Good Luck to everyones DD's in their next year.
