  1. It sounds wonderful. I knew Emma and Kerry and Anne very well as a student and much to my sorrow I was unable to attend this evening. I think in my personal mental state I would not have coped very well but knowing that such a beautiful thing was happening was very heartwarming. I am so proud of Emma's strength. What a huge credit to an amazing beautiful lady. Thank you for sharing the information.
  2. Tim Cross. He has a website. Ex BRB dancer he is lovely!
  3. They do an audition at the summer school but will only make a place if they really feel you are right for the school. But in answer to your question, yes if it is like other years this year, there is an opportunity to be seen. X
  4. Don't quote me but in the past I believe any held back are the maybes. The definite yes's and nos go together. And I wouldn't worry about the range test. They are normally inspecting the flexibility potential in the joint rather than how far the ligaments will stretch. I hope all the girls enjoyed their day. Ours have always had their letters on the Tues or Weds.
  5. I very much doubt this is the case at all. Definitely rumour! All candidates are taken on face value and assessed on the schools acceptance criteria. The highest 'scorers' win the places and I believe most schools will look for a uniform look within a year group not height necessarily but they will have certain types of physique and dancer etc in there. They want the students who show the most aptitude to the training in the audition and that is the bottom line. They don't play games. Gosh don't things get carried away.
  6. I think cross training works well in the holidays. So yoga, pilates, walking, cycling, tennis, swimming (tho not too much for ballet shoulders) I had an exercise bike at home for the British Weather! I Used to find my routine of a gentle hrs walk with the dog in the morning and then a 20 min aerobic on the bike and stretches plus core exs in the evening worked for me, then Id have one rest day of nothing. Then I'd do a two week summer school too. Easter Id do the same but wld replace the walkingcetc with two days a week practice in a local church hall. But everyone is different. Lots of fresh air and vitamin D for recovery is essential! X
  7. I tried to paste a link but can't seem to but if you google 'weevils in pointe shoes' there are some highly entertaining articles (not for the squeamish!)
  8. Just check for weavels (if you find sawdust in the shoe they have an infestation). Bluergh! ☺️
  9. Best foot forward I love your post! Thank you. I consider myself a 'good' teacher. I've had experience teaching in Voc schools and have got plenty of non voc students into ballet schools/dance colleges at 11/14/16/18 and I strongly feel our non voc students have an advantage staying at home for all the reasons you state. Having adjudicated auditions I do agree that vocational students have an advantage though as they seem to exude confidence over our non vs who are taking a step into the unknown. But this is all digressing. I think in regards to the original post all students need to remember the panel are looking for certain attributes. Fouettés display rhythm, dynamics, coordination, musicality, technical proficiency, determination and artistic flair. Why not include them and if you show 4 amazing ones and pick yrself up and carry on that is a real sign to the panel. My advice is keep working on technique of pointework and if it's meant to be it will happen.
  10. I would be very surprised if RBS asked for fouettés! At mine (many moons ago) we were required to do pose in various positions and pose developpes, pose pirouettes en dehors an en dedans, chaines, petit soutenu, emboîte,couru, pose en arriere in arabesque and releve en avant/arriere in arabesque. Sissones releve, Double pirouettes en dehors/en dedans. We did a bout 4 exercises which incorporated these one of which was a grand allegro exercise to see if we could dance in our shoes!
  11. He was lovely! Generally I felt the standard of the boys was fantastic. Massive congrats to your son CeliB what a huge achievement!
  12. Apparently Rina Kanahara has been offered an ENB contract.
  13. All the best to him I think he has started a very promising and fantastic journey.
  14. Thanks IC for the info. I hadn't noticed that change. Yes I would hope it is an even playing field. It is a shame there are not more UK entrants. I know of 3 UK non Voc girls who have applied for the Prix in the last couple of yrs. One is gorgeous and now in her first year of Voc training she have would more than held her own judging by what I've seen this year. Yet not chosen. I just feel sometimes poor Brits are not given the chance with any of these things. A bit like the Eurovision Song Contest!!!
  15. Oh yes Ann I like to remain anonymous
  16. I would think Miko was probably there for the Swiss Prize which she won last year and she had very stiff competition for that so the right girl won. Also for the actual week and exposure to companies. I would have thought it a bit of a wasteful exercise putting her in the final, with her exposure she must always be getting offers. Anyway that's sll on another thread. I think personally Harrison had the edge potential wise. He could be a real super star.
  17. Do you think lack of jobs in companies has had an impact meaning the younger end of the candidates went through? Sorry probably a bit controversial! I felt the winner and the Swiss girl were outstanding but I was surprised by some of the selections for the final. My thoughts were perhaps they put through ones who were likely to benefit from a school scholarship rather than an apprenticeship/company place.
  18. Sorry slow on the uptake here and little people stopping me reading back. Finally managed to get on today and catch 17yrs plus classical solos (CeliB great to see ur son in action) is there any way of watching the younger ones classical solos back or any other solos? Assuming they have danced. Thank you.
  19. Please keep going. I had a no for JAs, no for SS, reserve SAs, reserve SS and then the same year a yes for US! Craziness! And I can spout several similar stories for ex and current RB company dancers. It's the right teacher and timing sometimes and a hell of a lot of determination and self belief. And a very sound minded parent behind you which you all are. Windows shut, doors open, keep looking upwards ☺️
  20. Thank you for sharing I will look forward to watching this.
  21. Flora ENBS and OPES are excellent. I hope all the students enjoy their summer programmes.
  22. Snowflake just to put yr daughters mind at ease a bit, there are currently students at WL who were unsuccessful at getting summer school places even whilst they were JAs so it's an open playing field. Secondly Flora just to defend my own teaching abilities and those of the other teachers on here I echo Kat09 in saying that many students gain places from non vocational lower schools to Upper schools every year. Last year we had 4 gain places and go off to their chosen schools. Before that we have at least two a year go on and always with full funding. Ours rarely attend associate programmes either so are completely 'home grown'. They are dancing many hours with excellent teachers and benefitting from a lot of private and holistic training alongside group training. Plus performing and competing regularly and enjoying home life. It is just an alternate path but they are more than up to the challenge of overseas students. Of course there schools which don't provide all those things but it's definitrly not a least training.
  23. Such a frustrating process. They perhaps ought to audition them like they used to. But very well done to those with a yes you will have an amazing time.
  24. http://youtu.be/_zOWJOfepQ8 It starts at 5.00
