  1. Good old Tony Hall! Perhaps this is the reason for the termination of YBDY.
  2. Absolutely! And I agree she does but I think I always look for the girl with the devil in her eye and lots of fire in her veins.
  3. Can I just voice I have nothing against Miss Choe and I find her very similar to Yoshida whom I loved to watch for technical neat schooling but I find them quite diminutive on stage. They don't excite me as an artist in the way others have. I can't put my finger on it, but perhaps this is an underlying reason for her lack of promotion. Just an opinion.
  4. Thank you Janet I totally agree. I am well aware of how difficult the climb is to a career but it is not for everyone. It will be great to see a new wave of dancers tackling the varied rep of the upcoming seasons. There is some incredible talent in there at every level and everyone knows what a strong foundation does for something so why not let the company have strong foundations in their ranks.
  5. I just wanted to add the places offered at US at the SS are after an audition which the students have to apply for. They are not asked to audition as that would be poaching and the school, I expect, only want students who want to be there! At the WL SS the SS application form asks whether the candidate wishes to be considered for the school at the SS so it is the parents/guardians that have set the ball rolling not RBS! Sorry I will forever stick up for the school. Though more than agree with a lot said on here
  6. Couldn't agree more Ribbons.
  7. Claudia Dean is no longer pursuing a dance career she is back at home in Aus in an office job. And I expect very happy at home. I admire her guts as a dancer and person. She went a long way very quickly and I guess she could see her potential future and wished it to go another way. Fair enough. She is young enough to enjoy herself. Good for her.
  8. 75% is a distinction. 55 is a merit 40 is a pass.
  9. I don't know how my post got in here I thought is put it on the artistic directors... page?! Apologies. Maybe it could be moved
  10. We were basically told in school when recruiting into the company there were different categories of recruitment into RB those who were basically going to fly through the ranks on merit and we could all see that those people had that something extra apart from being incredible dancers, difficult to explain but if you meet Lauren C or Marianela or Steven McRae you will understand. Then there were those who were good 'jobbing' corps dancers and probably would never be much more. They are recruited essentially in pairs ie clones! So if a clone/half a pair leaves they will recruit another similar who is in the pile of cvs unless they have their eye on someone in the school. Then there are those recruited for long term character part careers and then the very select few who are gifted choreographers that can give something interesting to the company. It isn't enough to just be amazing for then it's about having the style without being taught and if you fit into the allotted box.
  11. NYB do not have professional dancers in the company and they are not paid. Just to clear that up. I think any director has his or her right to contact a dancer they are interested in and invite them to take company class. This happened to Tyrone Singleton Carrie Johnson and Greg Dean after an NYB gala who were invited to do company class with BRB. Ty and Carrie received contracts Greg was then invited to Scottish Ballet and received one there. They just need to get seen and 'recommended' sometimes a company member may ask a director for a friend to join class. Ballet black used to do open class at the ROH possibly still do and Mr O Hare may have seen the above two there as he walked past. Right place right time
  12. I always used the fine hair nets tripled over. I had some that my chemist had in a drawer that had never been sold they gave them to me for free before I went to RBS. They were very old packets circa 1960! No offence btw! Think they were lions.
  13. Just check it isn't something more sinister. Like a sore appendix (no wish to worry you but is worth checking) I suggest see a GP and if no joy see a Physio. Rest and rub arnica cream on the area and take arnica capsules. Best wishes
  14. Perhaps the school could email all the parents who have students on the courses that week I am sure someone would put her up and they must have a SS group email list set up on their system. Best wishes to you all.
  15. I would advise sending a CV DVD and personal letter to directors. It might not be the done thing but it can't do any harm!
  16. I believe Mr O Hare selected the 4 apprentices from visiting the schools. The two RBs girls were already working with the company as all their grads do. The 2 ENBS girls he saw in class. He is bound to be on good terms with his former BRB colleague now ENBS Director of Dance Miss Saidi.
  17. Really disappointing and I agree with you Kat09, as we know it can be a lovely platform for the non vocational bristish student with excellent opportunities involved. We looked into YAGP and oh my goodness the cost! So that is out of the question unless said student does nothing else to support her training. And that is just to send a video in never mind anything else. the Prix is financially slightly more realistic but heavens come on UK no offence but keep up! How on earth does one get students seen by school directors in anything other than a class without sending them abroad. Hey ho :/
  18. Does this mean they are no longer running the YBDY competition?
  19. Oh yes I agree with Sheila on the goji berry front my goodness I was so ill after those! (Perhaps Replace them in Saskias goji recipes?!)
  20. If you look at naturallysassy.co.uk she has some fabulous scrummy healthy snack ideas. She is a training dancer herself and they are all gluten dairy free
  21. This always was the golden year group, outstanding and They are exquisite! I believe 9 or 10 of the girls have an US place and at least 9 of them started in year 7 but I am relying on second hand info! I do not know about the boys but they are superb. Congratulations to them all.
  22. I certainly wasn't referring to US I was referring to non vocational schools as this is what this thread is regarding.
  23. Ellie that was in response to Aileens comment, I couldn't re quote. Yes absolutely a good teacher will make something of any child and, personally, I pride myself on that. People may see that as big headed but it took me a long time to have self belief. Beware the teacher also who broadcasts success with children when they have poached them from another school not that we have had that problem, but sometimes parents need to scratch below the surface.
  24. I do agree that White lodge look for physique however the child's attitude and ability to show an aptitude for vocational training is assessed plus musicality, technical awareness etc and this is all very carefully nurtured by a good teacher
