Die Fledermaus - music ID question
Pulcinella replied to myrtle's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
I imagine it's an orchestration of Johan Strauss's music for the operetta. There is certainly a recognisable tune from that towards the end of the pas de deux. -
Cancellations in the UK caused by coronavirus
Pulcinella replied to capybara's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
Not ballet but opera. Welsh National Opera has had to cancel it's spring season. "Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and the associated restrictions, we have regretfully taken the decision to cancel our Spring 2021 Season. Please visit our website for the latest information. All of us at WNO are looking forward to a time when we can see you all again at a theatre or concert hall and in the meantime we hope that you all stay safe and well. " -
Be careful when you buy this as there are two options. "Birmingham Royal Ballet’s The Nutcracker at The REP will be available to watch as a livestream event at 7.30pm on Friday 18th December. It will then be available to view as a video-on-demand recording from Saturday 19th to Thursday 24th December. Video-on-demand sales close at midnight on 21st December, but can be viewed until midnight on Christmas Eve." It is not made clear in this statement that if you pay for the livestream you will only be able to watch that. If you want the video-on-demand it is a separate payment and this will be available from 19th Dec for 3 days from when you activate it. It won't be available over the entire 6 days.

Pulcinella replied to a topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
Although I had no intention of going to the 4th Nov performance out of curiosity I clicked the link to buy tickets and got the following message Sorry tickets are currently unavailable. Returns may be available later. which possibly looks as though there has ben a last minute rush for the only available performance. -
Companies' virtual seasons 2020
Pulcinella replied to Jeannette's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
News of NYCB's digital season. https://www.nycballet.com/season-and-tickets/fall-digital-season/ Details also on the Seeing Dance website. -
Probably because it was issued in 2011 and is "out of print" or whatever the term is for DVD's and Blu-rays.

ROYAL OPERA HOUSE LIVE PERFORMANCES AUTUMN 2020
Pulcinella replied to a topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
The Birminham Rep dates back to 1971 although it has been renovated since. It is all on one level with no aisles, like the Barbican. They are asking people to arrive at a certain time to be seated, presumably those with seats in the middle will be seated first so that other people don't have to push past them. The foyer spaces are reasonable, helped by the linking space to the library and where the box office is situated. There is a large open plaza outside although in October I can't imagine many people will want to hang around there for too long. There are entry doors on both sides of the theatre so I imagine people will be asked to enter the theatre on the side for which they have tickets. -
Pacific Northwest Ballet 20/21 Season
Pulcinella posted a topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
The 1920/21 season of the Pacific Northwest Ballet will be an entirely digital one, on subscription. It appears individual performances will be available to buy as well. https://www.pnb.org/season/#new Not what people would really like but at least they've taken a decision in time to carry out what they feel they can do reasonably for now and the immediate future.- 1 reply

The Bolshoi have announced three cinema broadcasts for next season, all obviously recordings. 4 October + Romeo and Juliet 1 November + La Dame aux Camelias 20 December - The Nutcracker They are obviously hoping to be able to broadcast some live in 2021 as they haven't announced any thing further. Let's hope they can.

Cancellations in the UK caused by coronavirus
Pulcinella replied to capybara's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
I really don't think this is going to be much help at all, especially as there seems to be no sign of any financial help. https://www.standard.co.uk/go/london/theatre/oliver-dowden-culture-roadmap-plan-a4480341.html -
The reason for only showing Act 3 of Coppeila is given as the following on the Lincoln Centre website A note on this performance of CoppéliaThe decision was made by New York City Ballet and Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts to stream the third act of Coppélia instead of the full-length production. The production from that time included, in the second act, the character of a Chinese doll wearing a mask and making movements that were ethnically and racially insensitive. In recent years, New York City Ballet has changed the costume, make-up design, and movements for this character to eliminate the Yellowface signifiers. The program that will stream on Monday better aligns with the values of NYCB and Lincoln Center. We commit to continued examination of this alignment moving forward.

Just received an email to say the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff has cancelled all performances until 17th January 2021. Not many major dance companies go there (although BRB did perform there a few years ago) but all the big musicals go there, similar receiving house to the B'ham Hippodrome.

it finishes at 19.00 Moscow time zone, which I think is 16.00 our time, so not long left to view it.

Cancellations in the UK caused by coronavirus
Pulcinella replied to capybara's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
The performances of the triple bill at Sadler’s Wells and Don Quixote have all been cancelled. If you go to the What’s On section of their website it says cancelled against those performances but they haven’t put the information on their Covid 19 update page, which is where I would expect to find it. I haven’t received any communication from the company or the Hippodrome or Sadler’s Wells about the cancellations. -
I echo what jmhopton says but also in relation to BRB. I know there is not much commercially available but they must have a lot recorded for archive. They occasionally show snippets from works on Facebook (recently Checkmate and Pineapple Poll) which seem to have been recorded at dress rehearsals as you can hear the clicks from photographer’s cameras. They also had a video archivist on the staff at one time. It would be great if some of these could be made available the way NYCB are doing with their archive recordings.

The magazine Dance Europe is suspending publication while the pandemic continues as most of their content is usually reviews of performances, which obviously there are none at the moment. However they have a produced a complementary digital only edition available here https://www.danceeurope.net/secure/articles/viewer/10/comp-dig-edition/index.html As well as articles to read there are also some videos to watch. The first of these, on the editorial page, consists of dancers from around the world talking about how they are coping with lockdown. This lasts for just over an hour and includes, among others, Valentino Zucchetti, Brandon Lawrence, Mara Galeazzi, Hannah Bateman and Xander Parish. Articles on the role of Siegfried in Swan Lake, backstage at the Maryinsky, Kosuke Yamamoto and others.

Yes I saw this at the cinema in 2016. I think the schoolgirl was Xenia Pchelkina (Ksenia Pehelkina?) if the character’s name is Gala.
